Hmm, The Slave King wouldn’t work for this story, though it’s a great title.
Age’s End is a good idea too.
What do you think of The Clashing? I personally like that title, though my sister isn’t sure about it and (since I’m not very good at titles) I don’t completely trust myself when it comes to titling sometimes.
But still…The Clashing Tw…[Read more]

You know you’re a writer when you go back to read a book you loved when you were younger and are bitterly disappointed because the story you remembered is ‘ruined’ by bad writing.

I have a question of my own about book titles…more specifically, about the title of a book I’m writing. The original title was Legend of the Shield, which I discarded after discovering that was also the title of a comics series. Then it became the Shield and Spear…which I’ve had for awhile, but don’t care for. It isn’t snappy enough. Anyway,…[Read more]

anti drone drones…that’s cool. 🙂 What is really strange is when you make up something futuristic and then suddenly realize that people are doing it today. For example, a brother of a friend installs sound systems into the walls of houses. Also, they can work out settings for lights in rooms, so they turn on and off at preset times; various…[Read more]

Hmm, first kiss before the wedding day. I don’t think it’s a sin, but at the same time I really like the idea of a first kiss on the wedding day, both in real life and in books I write. In one of my books, I have an engagement and the end and the MC kisses the girl’s hand. 🙂 Perhaps, after I’m married myself, I’ll go further in my own books. 😉

I love the ‘A Poem’ poem. (and I love the name of the blog too.)
Hmm, well, one thing that is just more personal taste…the blog could maybe be spiced up with a few pictures. You could have something cool that jumps out on the home page. And you could have photos with your stories and poems…I like to get pictures from Pinterest. The added…[Read more]

One thing I love seeing in romances is when the brothers are protective…sometimes even over protective and give their sister’s suitor a hard time. 😉 I also like seeing the sacrifices of love, not just the emotional part of it.

Talking to herself in first and second person…that doesn’t take 500 years. I do that already. 🙂 But I like the idea about her making up names for other things or mixing formal and informal speech. That could be funny. 😉
As for reversing speech…well, she can’t sound like Yoda. But I have her talk mix up wording a bit awkwardly sometimes…[Read more]

In a fantasy book I’m writing, I have a character who’s around 500 years older then the rest of my characters. She still looks young…her position is interesting, but basically she’s been living alone for that whole time, though she occasionally (as in, every year or few years) leaves the woods to buy things at a village. Anyway, in my story she…[Read more]

I’ve done that in a trilogy I’m writing…the MC’s view is in first person, present tense, and occasionally I write chapters from other character’s views in third person, past tense. It actually flows together even better than I’d hoped and I really like it for the style of book I’m writing. I’ve seen it in published books too (the switching of…[Read more]

Question for a scene of my own. If a young man (around 17) has grown up in the mountains after his mother died not long after his birth, and was raised by a man who he loved (and who died around a year ago, at which point this young man was captured and imprisoned)…anyway, moving on, he ends up finding his real father and speaking to him for the…[Read more]

So…any comments about how realistic it would be for a laser weapon with a certain range; where it is lethal inside that range but evaporates or something once it reaches a preset distance?

Here’s a ‘poem’ of sorts I wrote a while back. Most of the lines just came to me as I was knitting. I don’t know if there is any proper pattern, but the rhythm seems to work.
Two Gifts
Two gifts there were
Given to man.
The first can be taken
But not given.
The second can be given
But not restored. Many think of the first as white
And the…[Read more] -

Show the reader why the bad guy is doing what he’s doing. If the reader understands that, then they will feel for him, even though what the man does may be bad. Take Rumple in Once Upon A Time. He is very bad…he’ll kill people who go against him without a thought and has intricate plans and curses; and yet you discover that he’s doing this to…[Read more]

@kate-flournoy, @a-knight-of-the-prince Self-driving/hover cars, already done. 🙂 I call them Trans or P-Trans (short for Personal Transport). They all contain chips that interconnect with all the other Trans and so prevent accidents (normally). They hover using magnetic technology and so there are rails embedded into the road. Which makes it…[Read more]

Here’s a fun topic. 🙂 What type of weapons do you think we’ll be using around 200 years in the future? Set aside for the moment ideas of weapons of mass destruction and all, right now I’m trying to think of personal weapons and weapons an oppressive government might use against rebels.
Currently, both sides carry a mix of what we’d consider…[Read more]
