Hope Ann

  • @bluejay I live about an hour from the border…what is close? Edgerton, IN is right smack on the border. It’s zipcode is 46797. There is a main street, center street, railroad street, Dawkins road, Bertha street, a church, and not much else. 😉

You can get city names and zipcodes and all that with Googlemaps.

  • @Daeus I’m interested in looking over your story. 😉 I think you have my e-mail…

  • I found this video series which looks like it will be very informational when it comes to marketing: click here (for lack of a more original thing to say).

Currently I’m thinking about something along the lines of a tremor though the ground, light breaking though the darkening clouds in the shape of the King’s Sign (does that seem cheesy or cool?) and glinting off the shield of the MC high above the battle. A spirit of fear will trouble the enemy and new energy will sweep though the good ranks.…[Read more]

I don’t know. Besides, where would all the light be coming from? 🙂

    @Ivy-rose It’s The Final Clash.

My sister is of the opinion I should have the whole battle underground; but 50,000 soldiers? There would have to almost be an underground city for that; something which I don’t have room for in this book. Perhaps just a hundred or so on each side… But it still boils down to the two characters; the shield and the spear.

Water spraying on the army…I suppose that’s a possibility. Though considering how close the fight it, it would logically get on soldiers of both sides; except that it would be a miraculous event already, so water landing on one soldier and not another shouldn’t be too strange. I don’t know…

@gretald That’s not a bad idea…except the bad guy’s army won’t know he’s dead. At leas, they won’t see it, so I don’t think that will work. I want something more than common fleeing.

And yes, @Kate-Flournoy, it is a spear. (A SPEAR, EVERYONE, NOT A PEAR) And it’s too late to go back and edit the post. ;(

The horn, hmm. Possibly, though for the…[Read more]

So…I need some help. Or at least I wanted to see if any of you had ideas.

Basically, I’m trying to figure out the climax of a fantasy I’m writing. The main good guy and main bad guy are battling it out in underground caverns while a battle rages outside. While there isn’t magic in this story, there is ancient power/the Prince’s power. The MC…[Read more]

  • One tip I’ve heard about creating good conflict is to give the character two things he wants and force him to choose; perhaps he really wants one thing, but the second thing is better for the kingdom or for other or even for himself. Now, in many movies where the bad guy has the girl friend in one hand and the lives of a whole city in the other…[Read more]

  • You know you’re a writer when you are babysitting a six-year-old and she starts pretending you are a queen she is you assistant, and somehow it quickly spirals into good queen verses evil queen, with a calling down of dragons, wielding of magical spears, and summoning of knights (all the while you’re taking notes of your witty comebacks for future…[Read more]

  • An update on what I’m doing with my newsletter in case anyone cares.

    1. I’ve changed the name to a much more catchy ‘Legend Seekers’ (verses ‘Writing in the Light Readers’)

    2. I’ve worked on switching the focus of my newsletters to things fantasy readers would find cool; humorous tips in case you are caught away into a magical land, scenes…[Read more]

  • Umm, what does everyone think about spending $50 on a really cool, fantasy-looking dagger? To be clear, I have not bought said dagger. But I’ve seen it a few times and my fingers are itching to wrap around the ivory handle and trace the sharp glinting blade…ok, so that’s a tad dramatic. 😉 But, not that this is a super important question or that…[Read more]

  • Good points, everyone.

And no more, @Daeus. I. Am. Reading. Dreamland! And now I will try to forget that someone is going to die and hope that, this time, everything will turn out right.

  • @kate-flournoy Yes, I’m afraid it is. I struggled with it for a bit, but it really is the best (and most traumatizing choice). I’m afraid most of my family is thinking I’m a bit weird because I’ve been talking about how I have to kill someone in my story and they’re all like ‘why?’ So now I’m working on making it as traumatic for everyone else as possible.

  • I think there was a topic about this sometime in the past, but I’m not sure where it is. Basically, I’ve just one quick questions. You see, I’m killing a character and it’s going to be very sad for me so I’m determined to make it as sad as I can for my readers too. And the questions are these:

    1. What one or two book (or movie) deaths are the…[Read more]
