@daeus By the way, a couple of months ago you dared me to write a story about a character who believes he is an apple pie and is very disturbed by the fact. I did it. 🙂
@dragon-snapper I was reading the book of Job the other day, and there’s a passage (Job 28) that talks about mining, and people finding beautiful treasures far beneath the soil of…[Read more] -

@northerner and @jadamae, I may need a final polish in a couple months, so if you guys are still available then, I can keep you posted.
@jess, thanks so much! If you could have it done by mid-March at the latest, that would be great. I totally understand life. However, last year, I asked some friends to proofread a novel for me (I even printed…[Read more] -

@gideon-sowdon I’m so glad you brought this up, because I’ve been wondering the same thing. I tried this first about four years ago, and revisited the idea just recently, because I really like writing in first person, but I have a story about two siblings who have very different personalities and very different stories. I’m glad to hear it’s been…[Read more]

Hey folks,
I’ve been working for about two years on a novel called Prince of the Barbarians, and Lord willing, I will be attempting to publish it this year. But before I do that, I need a few beta-readers. Actually, gamma-readers, because I’ve already had two people beta-read for me, but I’m sure there are still plenty of flaws, and it’s always…[Read more] -

@daeus @kate-flournoy Thanks guys! I’m glad we explored this topic. Daeus, I see what you mean about the passage in Hebrew talking about faith being credited to the patriarchs as righteousness. Very true. I forgot about that passage.
It’ll be a while before I’m actually going to write this story, but until then, I’ll give it prayer and study to…[Read more] -

@daeus Thanks so much! Make sure to keep me posted on how all this goes for you. I’ve spoken with people who have done publishing before and they’ve said that small publishing houses aren’t as bad as they sound, so I may try that and let you know how that works for me. Regardless it will require me to do my own marketing, so thank you for the tips…[Read more]

@daeus @kate-flournoy I’ll give you another chance to implement your plan, because I’ve been doing some thinking and I believe I have worked out my details. This is sort of what I had in mind before, but I didn’t have it all worked out yet.
So, one of the main characters in this story is a ghost named Emeth. She died fifty years ago at the age of…[Read more] -

@daeus Let me know how self-publishing works out for you. I haven’t given much consideration to that method because I’ve heard it’s expensive, but I’ve never known anyone who used that method. How are you going to market your book? That’s another thing I’ve heard is tough with self-publishing, because you’re responsible for everything.

@gretald, I hope you can make it! I have been to Delaware and back in a day, so I know that it’s doable, but that was for a competition. I don’t know whether you drive yourself or not, but if your parents bring you, there is plenty of shopping and restaurants in the Canton area, or they could hang out at LifeWay or sit in on the gathering. And…[Read more]

@northerner @daeus @kate-flournoy Thanks for the input.
I could probably find a way to have ghosts represent something spiritual in this story, but it might be a stretch. I guess my question is, do they have to represent something? If you look at Lord of the Rings (which is pretty much one of my favorite things to point to as an example of…[Read more] -

@daeus
A couple of questions that have nothing to do with critiquing your cover. 1) Are you getting ready to self-publish? 2) How did you put together a cover? (I’ve done covers for fun before, but I’ve used Picasa, which can’t superimpose images, and I’ve had to go with photos I’ve taken, which is rough, as I don’t have a large selection of…[Read more] -

@daeus sorry I’m a little late…
I like the cover the way you had it originally, although I didn’t like the text crossing the guy’s face. Maybe you could even go with a little less light on his face, since I’m assuming that’s Edwin and he’s very mysterious. -

@winter-rose I hope you can make it! I’d appreciate it if you and @daeus could just let me know by at least a week before (January 14th) whether or not you’ll be there.

I’m working on planning my next novel, and I’ve decided I want to expand my horizons and use a variety of humaniod characters, rather than just using people. And I thought, “Hmm… it would be interesting to have a ghost as a principal character in a story.” And then I thought, “Wait, is that Biblical?” And then I thought, “Well, it’s fantasy–…[Read more]

@bluejay Is your quote at the top of the page from Prince Caspian? I think it’s between Edmund and Peter but I’m not sure– I never saw the movie of Prince Caspian in its entirety, I just read the book.

@daeus I earlier mentioned the distance from Canton to Delaware because I know that some of the people I invited live in Delaware. I’ve done Canton to Delaware and back in a day before, so I knew the distance for that. I looked to see how fare we are from Circleville, where Kate is close to. We’re a little over two hours from Circleville…[Read more]

@christi-eaton We should do a Skype or Google Hangouts thing sometime. Or you should just move to beautiful Ohio…and enjoy the snow and sub-zero temperatures. 😛
@kate-flournoy Just out of curiosity, what city in Ohio do you live in?
@daeus Hope to see you there! - Load More
