Hi all! Oooo! I love Lord of the Rings, too! 🙂 And the Chronicles of Narnia!! Favorite from LotR is definitely Return of the King. All of the strings are tied up and the story comes to its grand finale in it. 😀
As far as picking favorite books goes– it was tortuous to choose just one until last year when I read “This Present Darkness” by Frank…[Read more]

Hi Kate,
I’m completely new to this site, so I probably should have started by introducing myself, but your challenge caught my attention, so here goes my first post.
I would offer a possible distinction between miracles and magic.
Definition of miracles: Supernatural works wrought about by a supernatural being/person/entity, often through the…[Read more] -

Hello, Magic Wielders! I have an argument to present to you.
There is no such thing as magic. Well… duh. But I mean not even in fantasy worlds. Not even when wizards with magical staffs shoot lightning at each other or blast cities apart with their minds.
Let me present my case. First of all, I am not saying that Gandalf is a fake, or Eragon’s…[Read more] -

All right, here I am again! For those of you who didn’t see the start of this discussion, please see ‘Start Here’… silly me accidentally began a general writing discussion where we were only supposed to introduce ourselves. 🙂 My apologies.
So… symbols. When I said symbols, I was speaking more of general, universal symbols that everyone knows…[Read more] -

Haha! I got that too! Sorry, but I’m not brave enough to dive down into the abyss of Khazad Dum to get my information. 🙂

Oh gracious, I’ve so many favorites it would take FOR-EV-ER to list them all… 😉 but I’ll give you a few. First of all, The Lord of the Rings (everyone knows who wrote that, right;)?).
I also really like ‘A Tale of Two Cities’, by Dickens, even though it’s really sad. I actually like all the Dickens I’ve read, which isn’t nearly enough, believe…[Read more] -

Wow, this forum really is empty! First of all, hello to you brave souls who first broke the silence, and secondly, I suppose it’s up to one of us here to start a real discussion. And it might as well be me as anyone else… so here goes!
What does everyone here think about symbols in novels? What makes a symbol good? When should you use a symbol?…[Read more] -

Hrmmm… what helped me when I was writing younger audience sort of kids books was I thought like they might think. Not all the time, mind you, but think about what they now and what they love and play off that.

@Skye: XD My reading often comes in spurts as well… Mostly due to my lack of time x3
@Taylor: Awesome! You’ll have to tell me what you think! I’m working on that myself. And welcome to the Forum! It’s a really great place 😉 Let me know if you have any questions or ask our awesome forum moderator.

@ Skye — That sounds awesome! My mom is a big fan of Lori’s, although I’ve never read one of her books myself… and inspirational stuff is good!! Make no mistakes there 😉
@Bethany — Coolio! Hope you enjoy it! One choice can change your future and what not xD

@Bethany: Hah! That counts as reading, methinks! I quite enjoyed Divergent when I read it myself. More morals and reasons for death in there than in the Hunger Games. In my opinion, Insurgent is even better. I haven’t read Allegiant yet though. Hope you enjoy reading them and continue on with the series!
As for an update for what I am reading, I…[Read more]

Right, the problem is parents (specifically fathers) are not disciplining their children, but are expecting the church to do it for them. The church should just be supplemental. The church should equip fathers to disciple their children, and reinforce what fathers are teaching. Instead, there’s a disconnect, and fathers aren’t teaching, and youth…[Read more]

I checked out your blog, and I REALLY liked your latest post (http://contentedseamstress.blogspot.com/2014/01/our-generation-and-church_15.html) and definitely agreed with you. Have you seen the film “Divided”? It talks more about why youth are leaving the church. Here is a link. It’s less than hour long, and pretty…[Read more]

@Hannah– Cool! What was “Dreamlander” about? I think I’ve heard of it before… not sure. Hah! Fantasy is sort of what I live on… no joke. xD

I’m almost always listening to music when I write. Most of the time it is soundtrack stuff (because soundtrack music is awesome… XD), but if there’s one song that really speaks to the chapter, then I’ll listen to that on repeat… for the hour or so that it takes to write the chapter… Ex. I listened to “I See Fire” from the new Hobbit movie…[Read more]

@Kat — Haha! Yeah.. I’ve finished This Present Darkness and its sequel Piercing the Darkness now! Both of them were great, and This Present Darkness is probably now my favorite book of all time.
As for what I am reading now, I am about to start the second book in Wayne Thomas Batson’s and Christopher Hopper’s co-written series The Berinfell…[Read more]
