I’ll remember that, Elizabeth: don’t make it easy! (Do you hear that, Grace? And you were just accepting my control of your life!). Sorry, awkward character interaction for a moment.

@graciegirl I played “Solitude” several years ago, but that’s it. I like to compose my own songs in the style of David Nevue and Brian Crain, and I also play a couple composed by Dario Marianelli for P&P (please don’t label me as a Austen nerd, or someone who wants to marry Mr. Darcy. He actually kind of bothers me, though I do enjoy Miss…[Read more]

Yes, @daeus, that was very helpful. Now I’m off to make sure my character has a goal as she’s struggling with shyness! And figure out how her goals will change as she changes.
@anne-of-lothlorien I love Stepping Heavenward! It’s on my “Top Ten Books I Recommend To Girls” list. Thank you too for the “reader feedback.” That reminds me…I have…[Read more] -

@graciegirl Yes, yes, and yes!
I’d definitely recommend WordPress. Lot’s of pros use WordPress and recommend it. I use WordPress and recommend it. Finally, one or two people on here have moved from something else to WordPress and been very happy that they did. I really don’t think there’s anything you can’t do on WordPress. It’s amazing.

@ethryndal It actually grows on me the more I see it. Looking like a Russian novelist has always been a partial-dream of mine. 😀
@anne-of-lothlorien This will probably just be temporary, but I’ll at least do it for a week. 😉

@ethryndal *chokes* That… that is hysterical. I can’t believe how much the face looks like him while also looking so… off. XD And that frog. I get the impression that ‘The Wiser’ is somewhat indulgent while his frog keeps everyone in line when he isn’t looking.

@bethanysinkyroses Ah, yes. That is what I was trying to get to.
All of this is perfectly doable, but you need to approach it from the right mindset.
What you need to understand is the difference between a wish and a goal. A goal is proactive. A wish is passive.
A wish is like this: “I really don’t want to talk to anyone on the phone.” *cries…[Read more]

Thanks, @daeus I actually just listened to your lesson on conflict two days ago, and so the added insight was helpful!
If I’m showing her thought process, and then how she acts, and how she changes, is that sufficient “conflict” (I’ll use quotes to show I’m not discussing warfare) for a book of this genre? For example, the first part to my…[Read more]

@bethanysinkyroses I agree. I tend to have to learn things myself before I get them. *sigh*
That’s a neat insight. I need to read 1 Peter again.

@bethanysinkyroses I’m a strong believer that a skilled writer can make almost anything exciting. You do need conflict to create an interesting story, but conflict doesn’t have to be what you might think it is. Conflict is not actually the same as people fighting (verbally or physically). I’ve encountered plenty of physical or other forms of…[Read more]

That was fast! It’s easy to see you believe in the cause of the Kingdom! @daeus
I’m currently studying holiness in the book of 1 Peter. Something really eye-opening for me was discovering that grace to obey comes as we obey. We don’t wait around till we feel Christ-like, but obey right now, with the faith that God will work. I really desire…[Read more]

Hello fellow scribblers.
I had an idea for a slice-of-life story about a young shy girl’s struggle with making friends, and her ups and downs in her walk with the Lord. My question is: will a story of that nature actually interest people, and will it have enough conflict?
What are some pitfalls I need to avoid with slice-of-life? Any tips are welcome. - Load More
