@Emma. That’s certainly a valid concern. I don’t like unrealistic, unhealthy, just peachy love stories either. However— keep in mind that you don’t have to have a ton of personal experience to write about something. Remember, Jane Austen wrote some of the most beautiful and popular love stories ever written, and she never married.

@Rosey—yes, I agree. There should probably be in most cases a long prior acquaintance before anything gets serious. We covered this on the unrealistic romance topic, but I’ll say it again— we established that there is no such thing as love at first sight, only love and first acquaintance, and that is rare. It only happens when the two people…[Read more]

Stories where two people hate each other and then end up falling in love can be fun. Sure its been used before, but that’s because it’s worth using.

Thanks for the input Hope and I’m glad you liked my poem. I don’t know if I’ll add pictures for the posts. It sounds like a hassle (especially if you are picky which pictures you use and making sure they are public domain). There would certainly be a benefit to that though, so I’ll think about it. Now that you mention it though, I really do need…[Read more]

Okay, so with our topic about unrealistic romance, we covered a lot of what you shouldn’t do in a love story.
Now what about what we should do? What makes a love story a good love story, in your opinion?
Do you have any examples from literature of a love story done well?
What are some common steroetypes of love stories? Could they be twisted…[Read more]

Oops… I must have missed the ‘only four times’ rule. Sorry about that. Are there even enough poets on here to make that work, anyway?
But moving on.
‘Shall find their way through night and day’

Alright, I thought I’d give the current poem in its fullness so you don’t need to keep looking back at all the previous posts. I made the rule originally that you could only post 4 times, but forget that. You can post as much as you want, but you still have to wait for someone else to post before you do your next one.

Barren boughs has been updated. Thank you. I edit everything before it goes up, but my editing skills are – um, not good. I’ll be redoubling my editing vigor now.

Wow, exciting for you, Daeus! I’ll definitely be keeping up with you. I’ve already glanced over several of the works you have up, and I was impressed.
The one thing I would consider adding to your blog, if it’s possible, is a comments option.
As it is, there are two things I noticed that I wanted to point out to you. My inner spelling Nazi is…[Read more]

Hello Everyone,
I’ve told you I wanted to do this, but it was more than just a desire. For the past month or so I’ve been working on a website for my writing, and now it is finally up! The website is entirely dedicated to my poems, short stories, and (to come later) serial novels. I already have five poems up there, two short stories, and I plan…[Read more]

Hey… Daeus is starting to use LotR references… must be a good sign… 😉
Good topic, Hope. Daeus got a lot of it, but one thing I would mention is that a quick, very effective way to make someone’s speech sound old fashioned is to play with the sentence structure. Reverse it. It’ll still make sense, but it’ll have a very distinct flavor. For…[Read more]

I expect if she had been living alone for 500 years she would have started to talk to herself all the time. Maybe she would have completely created a separate entity of herself in her mind that she could talk to as if it were another person (kind of like Gollum). She might also start to think of inanimate objects as things she can talk to. Maybe…[Read more]
