Just heard south Korea has anti drone guns (EMP guns) and anti drone drones that capture other drones and bring them back so the south Koreans can tell who owned the drone. Pretty cool stuff.

Oh yes, I see. A picture frame, that makes perfect sense. That would make it really nice. It would be hard though. I’d have to find a seamless design and then do some programing (read have my dad do some programing which he has little time for). It might (would) be easier just to run a simple stipe down the side. I might make it gradient for a…[Read more]

Tom Bombadil was one of my favorite character, probably in the top five. He was unusual, he was a great broke of creativity, but really, he was just downright beautiful. That song he sung when he came to help the hobbits when Frodo called/sung for him was probably my favorite of all the poetry. Just beautiful. I just started book six by the…[Read more]

Just a line of color— a stripe running down the left side, maybe with a few understated feathery looking designs on it, like a picture frame. It probably should be no wider than the width from the left edge of the page to the edge of the white box that says ‘Home: Welcome to the Scratching Quill’.
Does that make sense?

@writefury— thank you! That helps. I see what you’re saying, definitely.
@Daeus… um… that’s a beautiful poem there, Daeus. 😛 😉 I… think I may see what you’re saying. I’ll take your word for it that it’s easy… it certainly doesn’t sound easy! 🙂
Yes! That’s one of the great things about Middle-earth. There’s poetry everywhere, and it…[Read more] -

I hear their songs of Ever More
And sleepOk, I broke my rule, but I had to end it you know. So that does it. For now, I’ll just give you the poem as it stands. I’ll go through it and edit it in a day or two. Feel free to throw in your own suggestions. So here you go.

And whisper through the fading grass

Thanks Kate, those are good suggestions. I’m not quite sure what you mean by a border on the left side of the page though. Could you explain?

Daeus replied to the topic Help with titles in the forum General Writing Discussions 10 years, 11 months ago
This is really the very universal question of what makes a good title for any book. I don’t pretend to have all the answers there, but what I do know I’m going to share (and I expect all the rest of you to do so too).
I’ll start off with this. I once heard this publisher guy say that the best title is one that is between 1-5 words and makes you…[Read more]

I analyzed some of the poem, and I don’t think it follows any meter, but I do think if you changed the meter on some of the lines I pointed out that would help a lot. I don’t exactly know how to explain it. I get this sense which I’m not going to spend hours trying to prove that there is a sort of rhythm to your rhythm throughout most of the poem.…[Read more]

Okay Daeus, thanks! Would you mind pointing out exactly where the lines were wrong?
No, I’ve not heard of a sestina. How does it work?
And I certainly know what you mean about working too hard on the rhyme. I used to think the only good poems were ones that rhymed properly, but now I know better. 😀By the way, how are you liking all the poetry…[Read more]

Hm… you might try using a more visually appealing font for the text. Also you might consider designing yourself a logo (maybe just a cute little curly quill pen) that goes with the title.
Another thing that might be good is maybe you could make a light border on the left hand side of the page— very understated, not flashy or even really…[Read more]

Yeah it is a plain design, but what is there is pleasant. It feels comfortable. Of course, I want to do all I can to make it better. So does anyone have any suggestion for making it more eye grabbing? Pictures would work, but like I said, I’m picky about my pictures and I’m also concerned about copyright. Is there a way I can get around this? Are…[Read more]

I like it.
Honestly, I never take much time to think about my poems when I’m writing them myself. Some of my best ones are the ones that only took me a couple minutes.
I’d just pick pick out a couple lines that don’t flow quite right:
The bow is not bent,
And the sword has lost
All it’s sharpness.
Be the battle ever so grim.
Though the d…[Read more] -

Okay people. I have a poem I need your opinion on. I just wrote it in the last fifteen minutes, so it’s bound to have some mistakes in it, but here it is anyway.
The Coming Dawn
Long we have stood
In the shadow and mist;
Deep is the darkness
Around us.
Black is the night,
And hard is the road,
And cruel are the foes
That surround us.
Hard is our…[Read more] -

@writefury I just wanna say congrats on winning the writing prompt again! I loved your submission— I never thought of taking the butterfly’s POV. You did great. I really enjoyed it. Especially that the butterfly’s name was Harold— I have an MC named that. 🙂

Thanks! 🙂 I felt a little bad about that actually… I’ve done something like this before (with the weekly prompt, word limit and all…) and I’ve won 2 of the 5 that have been done so far. If I win again I might drop out for a few weeks. 😛
Cool! Yeah, you mentioned that before. Actually, I named him Harold because I had a stuffed blue butterfly…[Read more]-
Awwwww… how SWEET!
No seriously, I used to have a little stuffed beanie baby puppy… sniff sniff… I named him ‘Pettum’ because I liked to pet ‘im. 😛I was a little younger then.

Aww… that’s actually not a bad name. 😉
I named my first baby doll “Bill”. It was dressed in pink and had big eyelashes and curly hair. XD-
Oh LOVELY. Poor tyke. 😛
