Sam Kowal replied to the topic Unlikable Protagonist? in the forum Characters 8 years, 6 months ago
@introvert_girl
Character likability runs along a few different lines, and three of them are:
Proactivity
and
Likability in the story
and
DisabilityIf a character’s proactive, and strives to accomplish his or her’s goals, they’re going to be mor elikable. If other characters in the story like them (which it sounds like might be part of your…[Read more]

@catwing Hmm. I could say a ton about this.
Like everyone else has said, yes, MKs are not all the same, stereotypes of either really good kids, or teens who don’t want to be there.
They can be just as normal as regular kids.
One thing I do notice, is that in general, it can be pretty hard to fit in. Living and knowing another culture very well,…[Read more]

@rochellaine, yeah, it still didnt work. I am mentally screaming right now. but I have to do some school so I’ll have to write it again later

Alia replied to the topic One of my MCs is a MK in the forum Characters 8 years, 6 months ago
@catwing, so, I wrote a very long answer, only to have it disappear and KP log me out. I don’t have time to rewrite it right now, but I will try to get it to you.
@rochellaine, I agree with both of your posts

Sam Kowal replied to the topic Best Cover Designs in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 6 months ago
@mnvalentine Distinctive artwork, that stands out and also connects with the story. always seems to make a great cover to me. Covers that sort of seem generic and rely on a lot of explosions/shiny lines to get your attention don’t seem memorable, for example:
The cover is cool, but not memorable. (An awesome book,…[Read more]

Okay. @winter-rose Finished my experiment thing, and now I’m on to my article thing, probably.

@winter-rose I’m here! I’m working on a characterization experiment for my MC and I’ll be working on an article rough draft later.

@Dragon-snapper I’ve recently started up a facebook page too, and I’m just learning the ropes. I normally share all my blog posts on there, and some updates on my WIPs (though I should do that more). I’m thinking of doing a ‘Saturday Snippets’ sort of thing where I share a piece of writing every Saturday, etc.
Other than that, I also second…[Read more]

@dragon-snapper First of all, nice example. 🙂
I don’t think that it’s too dismal by itself. Even a lot of that can be good. It creates tension, you know.
It just takes a little bit of hope to keep the reader on the right track. Simple things too. Depression works because it pretends to be immense. Little, pleasurable, “childish” (quote on…[Read more]

@ethryndal I’ve been watching Lord of the Rings lately, and whenever I see Galadriel, I expect her to say something sarcastic… XD
-
HA! HAHAHAH!!! This is the third time someone’s told me this, and words cannot express the sheer emotion that floods my soul every time.
I HAVE REDEFINED GALADRIEL.
*pumps fist* My villainous master plan is already beginning to take effect.
(And is… is that… is that your name? *hugs the dear sweet Danielle kid*)
-
@ethryndal *claps* Bravo! You redefine green elves, and I melt chairs. 😛
(Yep, I’m Danielle. 🙂 That’s me name. *stunned* Did an INTJ just hug me? 😛
-
Yeah, yeah, don’t get used to it. Sometimes INTJs have an identity crisis. It takes them all of 0.05 seconds to remember who they are and that they don’t hug people.
You do realize how strange this is for me though, right? Is this what if felt like when you learned that my real name WASN’T Ethryndal? *hyperventilates on the floor* What is life…[Read more]-
It was pretty weird, I’ll admit. I was like… wait. Huh? Is that her real name, or is that her pen name, or is that… ??? XD
*pats shoulder but does not dare hug you* Worry not, melon (is that the elvish word for friend??) at least I’m still a dragon.
*melts chair*
-
-
True, very true. And no matter how many names you may have, you will always be a Kid as well. 😀
(And yes, your elvish is mostly correct. Mellon actually has two ‘L’s, but I’ll overlook it THIS ONCE… 😛 See how merciful I am?)
-
😐 That’s me. The wonderful, wild Kid. XD If we ever meet in person (which we have to do, anyway. You’re in Maryland, right?) then I’ll call you Galadriel and you’ll call me Kid. *watches building explode in dragon fire and glitter*
(I never claimed to be fluent… Melons are tasty though.)
*is in awe of the mighty, merciful @ethryndal )
-
THAT WOULD BE SO EPIC. *envisions all the explosions* The dragon and the elf. We wouldn’t have any gifs to throw at each other though… I suppose we’d have to improvise. And yes, I’m in Maryland. I applaud your skills of observation. Is it too much to ask what state thou makest THY residence in?
(You have no idea how much it bugs me that…[Read more]

@catwing Thanks for tagging me! I’m also an MK 🙂
@rochellaine covered a lot of my pet peeves. I personally have struggled a *lot* with being thrown into a whole new culture, and that was manifested by bitterness at God and parents. Even after I repented of that, it’s still something I struggle with, even two years later.
Two stereotypes that I…[Read more]

I guess one other way to get more “likes” on your page is to invite people to “like” it. That’s what I did when I first launched my author page. Beyond that…I’m still pretty clueless on FB 😛
