@emily-d Wow, yes Kate’s right, that is an enormous question.
Here are a few other things you could do in addition to Kate’s and Daeus’s awesome advice: Try to get to know your character as much as you know yourself. Write a list of the things they like/dislike (you’ve probably heard this before) that no one will know but you. What’s your cha…[Read more]

@Emily-D Okay, great question, and a very big one.
I’ll try to cover it the best I can. First of all, I cover some techniques for crafting strong characters in my Jumpstart Your Novel, which is free for the time being, so I recommend you go ahead and sign up for that if you haven’t already. Even if you don’t have a lot of time, just go watch the…[Read more]

@Emily-D wow… what an enormous question. 😛
Lemme take a stab at answering it coherently. First step, I would say, is figuring out the contradictions of your character.
For instance, everyone has something that they want. For the sake of conversation, let’s say I want pie. But then, everyone also has something that they need— and most of…[Read more] -

@Emily-D yes! All the time!
You know you’re a writer when you imagine your computer saying, “No! Not another Word document, please!” as you open your seven-billionth Word document. -

@emily-d Congrats and cupcakes for trying something new!! I’m not very good at meter and don’t have much help there, but iambic pentameter is the most common and was the easiest for me to pick up. If you’re interested in the “rhythm” of line breaks, punctuation, parataxis, and the like, you can do a lot to control the pacing and emphasis of a poem…[Read more]

@emily-d I just listened to Fishers of Men! It was a great song. Actually, I think I’ll add it to my running playlist. 😛
@perfectfifths Ohh…I like birds. -

@emily-d No, it’s a magpie 😛 And no, not necessarily. I mean, I like birds, but I’m not an avid bird-watcher and I don’t know heaps about them 😉

@emily-d I would love to draw her! I just may not get her done for another *counts on fingers* four days because I’m supposed to draw a picture a day. Just to let you know. 🙂 Feel totally free to drop by any character you would like me to draw. I’m busy, perhaps, but certainly not unwilling.

@emily-d I think superheros that don’t have powers but have lots of cool gadgets are cooler than superheroes with the powers.

@emily-d I’m not proud to say it, but I haven’t seen either of those. I just wanted to know if they’re worth my time. And I guess, because of your answer, they are.

@emily-d Yeah, we saw it in cinemas on Boxing Day, I think it was 😀
Well, I’ve never read any superhero comics and I haven’t watched any of the superhero movies, but my favourite superhero is Batman. The only Batman movie I’ve seen is LEGO Batman, but watching that, I think I’m more interested in watching/reading/learning about him 😉

@holly-nelson-gray @emily-d What’d you think and why? I’m really curious
@dragon-snapper It’s simply a film made outside of maninstream media. So, basically, a movie made without a big budget. And, because of the low budget, they’re usually dramas. Not huge action flicks. Examples of indies: Little Miss Sunshine or Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl.…[Read more]
