Hrmmm… what helped me when I was writing younger audience sort of kids books was I thought like they might think. Not all the time, mind you, but think about what they now and what they love and play off that.

I’m almost always listening to music when I write. Most of the time it is soundtrack stuff (because soundtrack music is awesome… XD), but if there’s one song that really speaks to the chapter, then I’ll listen to that on repeat… for the hour or so that it takes to write the chapter… Ex.
