@Daeus Thanks.
‘fell doom of calm’ is one of the trickier lines, I just need to think of an alternative. I want it (and the next line) to carry at least a hint about the birds not singing anymore and there being silence. I just have to figure out what words to use…

@Daeus Thanks.
‘fell doom of calm’ is one of the trickier lines, I just need to think of an alternative. I want it (and the next line) to carry at least a hint about the birds not singing anymore and there being silence, but I’m not sure that I’ve done that very well.

Thanks. 😉 I decided I better get working on the story, so settled down in a corner of the sewing room (the least busy room of our small house) and stared at my computer screen until I slowly came up with something. 😉
I’m not sure about ‘abides in the air’ simply because ‘abides’ is the opposite of ‘falling’. But then again, taken together, it…[Read more]

What is the youngest age of your actors? 😉 I used to put on plays with my siblings, though that was long ago when I was around 12 and the youngest was around 6. Are you directing this play too, or just writing it?
As to advice, take what I say for whatever it is worth.
1. Try to keep the dialogue fairly short, or at least in short pieces.…[Read more]

Well, I tucked myself away in a back room this evening and wrote up a prophecy. I’ve two questions about it.
1. What do you think about the rhyme and wording generally?
2. Does it fit the legend? Basically, it’s talking about a prophecy where the birds will fall silent (yep, this is my Rapunzel story again) bringing despair, and then the…[Read more]

Hope Ann replied to the topic The "diversity" trend in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 9 months ago
Like @Daeus said, if you do include an character who is an ethnic minority, one should make them fresh and completely human, not following common cliches.
This is actually a topic I’ve thought some on. I am writing a trilogy and realized all my characters where white…simply because about everyone I know is white and that is naturally how I…[Read more]

I’ve never seen Over the Hedge, but I have seen Megamind. I must say I love the movie, mainly because of the humor. And I liked Megamind even when he was bad. Anyway, it’s been awhile since I’ve seen it, but I do think there is some character development through the movie. You can see him softening as he’s with Roxanna, though he’s trying to get…[Read more]

@the-happy-bookaholic Did you contact me through my blog? Because if you did I didn’t get it…which means my contact form isn’t working again. Which is strange, because I did test it…but I might need to go fix or change it.

Hope Ann replied to the topic What does my villain want? in the forum Fantasy 8 years, 9 months ago
Hmm, that’s something I’ll have to consider. So far I’d only thought about birds in the terms of being used for spies, kind of like the Crublin or whatever in LOTR. Messenger Falcons are the only birds with personalities, the others just do as they’re told. But maybe I could weave the birds into normal life somehow, giving them something to do…[Read more]

The theme of this story is joy, which works well with singing. The twins don’t have any superpowers (besides being able to talk to animals) but their song probably has some sort of power in it. Either to control birds or summon birds. But what is one supposed to do with a bunch of birds? I have the idea of birds stuck in my mind, but I don’t know…[Read more]

I’m stuck at a point in my Rapunzel story and have got really good help here before, so I decided to see if anyone had any ideas today.
Basically, I’m trying to figure out what is motivating my villain. The main bad guy is a rebel against the Prince and wants power. The secondary bad guy of this story, who is the main bad guy in relation to my…[Read more]

@bluejay I got your captions. 😉 I got your comment too. Basically, I have my blog set so I need to approve the first comment someone makes (which I have). After that first time, you can comment and it will go directly to the blog.

I’ll occasionally forget characters as I write. In my trilogy, there was one scene where I had a character in the room, and then when I picked up the scene in the next chapter I forgot he was there and left him out of the whole thing. 😉

Hope Ann replied to the topic Love (mercy) vs. Justice in the forum General Writing Discussions 8 years, 9 months ago
That’s hard…because justice does need to balance mercy. Even God needed justice satisfied (by Jesus’s death); He didn’t just forget all sins because He felt like it. But God forgiving sins and man forgiving or showing mercy in any position is quite different, so I guess it partly depends on how close your allegory is. (Is it allegory?)
If it…[Read more]
