@silverclaw-bonnetfolly Do not despair! You aren’t the only person who hasn’t hit 5,000 words (me, I’m the other person).
And as for getting back into the flow, I agree with @catwing. Read over what you have already written. When I get stuck, I also like to get away from the computer for a little bit, and while I do other things, I talk to myself about what I want to happen next and I figure out how to get there. Don’t be afraid to take little breaks and take notice  of when your brain/body is saying ‘I really need a break’, especially if you’re sick.
You’ll do great! 🙂
AYE, I am attempting NaNo once more. This is the first year that I have signed up on the official website, so that’s exciting. Hopefully with that added impetus, I’ll actually have more success than in past years XP
I haven’t ‘titled’ my novel yet, but it’s a mystery set just a few years/decades in the future, so nothing too dramatic. I had to change a bunch of plot ideas from when I first came up with it, but I am quite confident with it now 🙂
@perfectfifths Wow, a sci-fi? That sounds so cool! I would love to try writing a sic-fi someday!
I’m also really competitive, so I’m glad that there is something like a word-count on the NaNo website to keep me motivated 🙂
@joy That sounds so cool! I also love fantasy novels 🙂
My novel is set in a parallel universe and it’s basically about a young female president who discovers that someone in the government uncovered some less-than secrets from the president before her (who happened to be her older brother), which could stain her reputation. She sends one of her personal advisers and his assistant undercover to try and discover who is threatening her. There are going to be lots of fancy dresses and balls and dinners and big houses, so that’s getting me excited 😀
@joy I’M DOING IT! I’m really excited to try it again this year, because it’s never… really worked out for me in past years 😛
I’m a reforming pantster, so I don’t really have any tips except get started on your plotting early XD
What genre is your novel and what will it be about?
@aratrea I LOVE THIS NEW WEBSITE. The addition of ranks is my favorite thing so far – although I’m not sure if it’s supposed to make me feel guilty about not posting enough or not XD
Ohhh, fancy! Y’all added everyone’s tags underneath their names also! YOU HAVE MADE LIFE SOOOO MUCH EASIER.
And @bethanysinkyroses, thank you for providing another cake for us latecomers <3
@princessfoo Greetings and salutations! It is quite an honor to meet one of the elusive INFJs… To be honest, I never knew how many existed in the KP world. I’m glad you have finally introduced yourself to us!
@rolena-hatfield Unfortunately not. It’s a horse that was across the street from a place we stayed at during our trip to Europe last month. I was just standing by the fence and it walked over and let me touch it. Glad you like it! It’s one of my favorite pictures.
@aratrea I would second the suggestion of @dragon-snapper, but alas *sigh* I suppose such ‘forum software’ cannot be subject to the whims and desires of mere mortals, oft-changing as they are. No matter. I will endeavor to endure *salutes, but with a tear trailing down one cheek* Thank you for your help.
Thank y’all for answering! I also thought @aratrea would be able to help.
@salome01w4g I noticed! Maybe we’re on to something!
Maybe it has to do with your mood? Because I know in my case, my writing style can change if my mood is different from the last time that I sat down to write.
I agree with @daeus. It is important to make sure that your character’s voice has personality and that the personality stays consistent throughout the narrative.
In general, I prefer how 1st person narratives sound in a story, and I’m very excited that you’ve decided to jump out of your comfort zone and try something new!
I attempted NaNo last year, and ended up with one-eigth of an untitled novel that I can’t seem to expand on. With that said, I probably won’t do it this year. I’m taking an English class at a local college for high school credit, and I also really want to focus on getting good grades in school this year. I would love to do it again, though! And I may change my mind!
I have poked my head out of the shadows of school sports and college English classes to welcome thee, @Anne-Swiftblade, to the fantastic world that is Kingdom Pen! I am so glad you’re here, especially since we share an affinity for Narnia, the Kingdom series, and Lord of the Rings! Do you have a favorite book or character from each of these stories mentioned?
