@keilah-h your comments make a lot of sense. Tbh I haven’t actually read the whole thing in quite a while, I just remembered how I had so many thoughts about the end. I definitely have to agree about the ending-the more I analyze and try to read into it the more I realize it could totally go either way, and while of course I’m a tad disappointed to be no closer to an answer I really have to respect the write for not turning it into a fanfiction and respecting Andrew Peterson’s wish for the story to remain open-ended. I suppose I should actually re-read the story before making more judgements, haha. I just kinda wanted to revisit this topic, since my sister has been obsessing over the TV series and I’m getting back into the books (and Andrew Peterson in general. His entire discography and all his books are just phenomenal.)
Agh! Can’t believe this thread hasn’t been posted on in over a year. I remember I first joined in middle school, and I’m currently nearly halfway through high school! But I have a couple comments and I want feedback!!!
Okay so first, just a quick aside about the show-I have all the old covers of the books, because they are my dad’s and he bought the original copies. (We have some of them signed, which is super fun!) So for my sister and I we always kinda just had to imagine the characters’ appearances, which is why in my mind Janner is a male version of me and Kalmar is a male version of my sister. Also, I’m afraid I’m not at all caught up on the show, but my sister is now a huge fan and it’s certainly weirding me out that she wants all the merch for her birthday, since “back in my day” there was no such thing!
Now, the real reason I’m coming back to this thread. Has anybody read the Wingfeather Tales short story compilation? More specifically, the last story, The Places Beyond the Maps? If so, WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS on the ending, and its implication on Janner coming back (?) and Sara’s relationship with him?
Yes, Tink’s eye color does become very important later on. My mom and I were discussing that at lunch today and I sincerely hope they don’t change that part of the story for character design or whatever. Honestly, that might be the thing to turn me off from the show (only slightly exaggerating).
Breaking/important question: I know Tink has brown hair in the animated series, but does he have blue eyes? From all the promotional art I’ve seen he’s either brown or green-eyed?? Can somebody answer this?
Yeah, I have seen the short film and really wasn’t a fan of the disproportionate heads of the characters. It’s promising that you say it’s been changed a little, though.
Thanks! That doesn’t sound too bad. The changes you mentioned do make sense and seem to not have a negative/large impact on the story. I see your point on having the art be more quirky and fun; I guess I’m just not a fan of that art style in general. 🤷♀️ I’m just not a fan of the weird proportions, where the kids have kind of huge heads. And this is again, personal peeve but since I’m a brunette and my little sister is blonde, I always pictured Janner as dark-haired and Tink as being blonde. And to my memory that’s actually how they were described in the books, but I could be wrong. But like I said, that’s a very personal thing, since I connect so strongly to Janner, as an older sister, and see my sister as being so similar in personality to Kalmar. So maybe I will give it a try, but I’m not sure I’ll ever see the animated characters as the Wingfeather children in my mind’s eye.
Wow! Hello there! Pleasure to meet you; I’m so incredibly glad I found this thread and I’m wondering if there are any steps I need to take to become an official member of the #ProtectionSquad. I have a friend who was writing a story in which she killed a character’s brother, whom I had grown very fond of, so much so that I wrote a detailed revenge scene where the main character was finally victorious over the killer. My friend didn’t take too kindly to it, but another friend and I formed the #RevengeforCadmus club and never let her forget. (This was over a year ago, but I concur.) I’m happy to see I’m not the only one who gets overly attached to other writers’ fictional characters!
Hi there! I’d just like to request a little more information on how the plot of the Wingfeather show- I’m pretty skeptical, because I’m nitpicky with the characters and from what I’ve seen the art really isn’t my favorite, and hearing about plot changes makes me even less likely to watch as I am very, very fond of the original books and I thought they were pretty darn close to perfect. I guess that was a terrible run-on sentence, but I did just finish my reread of Anne of Green Gables. Appreciate any information!
(I’m okay hearing spoilers for the show, but I understand there are others on this thread who don’t want them so if nobody shares any spoilers that’s fine too.)
@whalekeeper that’s so funny your family has the same thing! Ever since my great-grandmother it’s been a funny coincidence- I’m only fourteen, but already feeling the pressure for when I get married and have kids lol!
Oops, I posted that twice. Working out of my email inbox gets tricky! Sorry about that.
Wow this is fascinating! I love finding more people who love this series! I’ve thought quite. Alot about my role as an Annieran royal- I’m definitely a Throne Warden, as the oldest of three. I defintly identify with having a lot of responsibility and being gifted at writing and Journaling, although I’m also rather talented when it comes to music! Fun fact about my mom: She’s also a Throne Warden. And so would her mother have been, and her mother before her. My dad is a Lore Wain. So I guess I’m not the child of a High King or Queen, but both my parents bear their roles as mother and father with grace and authority, as I try to do my best as an eldest child!

Thanks! My main periods of interest are the Revolutionary War and Tudor England, but I have several fanfiction of a historical musical from the turn of the 20th century. I’ll have to check out the books and authors you mentioned; can’t wait!
May 29, 2022 at 3:18 pm in reply to: You have the ability to read a book for the first time again… #111152There are so many choices, but I’d have to say Harry Potter. No spoilers, but there are so many things i heard even before reading the books that there were sadly very few surprises. If I could go back and re-read everything with no knowledge of the series, I 100% would!
My favorite musicals are definitely Newsies and Les Misérables. Funny they’re both about young people fighting against injustice… in part. My favorite John Williams score would have to be either Harry Potter one or three. They’re both so magical (no pun intended!)
Ack you torture me!! If i HAD to read only ONE book for the rest of my life… I’m gonna cheat and say the Bible, actually. I mean, it’s really a no-brainer, isn’t it? There’s just so much!
Out of all 8 shows, my favorite is probably Acts: A City Rising. It’s a musical based on the book of Acts and it was a blast if a show! I played Miriam the disciple, a Greek cheerleader, and the demon-possesed slave girl Paul heals. It was the most fun I’ve ever had in a musical.
