@Daeus
I know I haven’t read your book, though Kate’s told me stuff about it (I hear it’s really good. I.e., genius. 😀 ). But I’m sorry you’re having this difficulty, and I’m going to be praying.That article sounds like a really good idea, btw. Writing out thoughts helps me better understand them too.
I hope you get everything fixed to the…[Read more]

@Michael-Stanton I haven’t, but that’s just because I’m a technological dinosaur and don’t have an account on any of those social media sites myself. 😛 I’m going to be getting Facebook at least, as I understand it’s crucial to marketing, but right now I’m still happily hermiting with just this forum and my mom’s email. 😉

@Aratrea That’s going to be so helpful; thanks a lot.

@Daeus that’s wonderful.
Well… the only input I could offer is, just explain how books are supposed to mirror reality because reality is truth, and in the long run ‘… the truth shall make you free.’ That probably goes without saying, so I don’t know how helpful that’ll be, but I hope it is, anyhow.

I’m praying, @Daeus. I think I can safely say it’s not your writing which at fault. The scene is necessary as an inciting incident and it is tragic, but it isn’t gruesome. If everything written was sunshiny, then there’d not be much to write about…though I suppose hearing a murder in the first chapter could be startling if one wasn’t expecting…[Read more]

@Daeus yes. Once you get through this (and you will, make no mistake) your relationship will be much stronger and built on better understanding.
Still praying.

Praying for you, @daeus , that sounds tough … you know it’s probably not your story’s fault. Some people like to read about murder and such, and some don’t.
I enjoy reading murder mysteries, myself. 🙂 When it comes to the actual murder, though, I’d really rather be told about how it must have happened than have it described to me while it…[Read more]

@Daeus yes. I’m praying.
I think the thing with bits like that is that it can come as a real shock to people who haven’t thought through the necessity of darkness in literature. They may not disagree once they think through it, but (especially for moms) the shock of hearing it without preparation can throw them into turmoil pretty harshly.

@winter-rose Thank you so much for the suggestions. There are some good ones here. I know every scene you are talking about so don’t worry about the fact that you can’t remember names. I’ll see what I can do. 🙂

@Sarah-H yes, I loved that one! So heartwrenching… which probably explains why I loved it. 😛
Let’s see… I also really like Master and Commander, Horatio Hornblower, Little Dorrit, and Pirates of the Caribbean 1. I like the other Pirates movies as well, but none so well as the first.

Oh. My. Word. I LOVE THIS! Like everyone else has been saying, I want MORE! This is amazing. And…everyone else has already given all the feedback I would have given. 😉 Seriously, though, I love this. Keep writing for the Kingdom! 🙂 -
