Heavens Embrace

By Joy Caroline

Let the heavens embrace,

Him, and only Him,

Him whose name is Everlasting Grace;

Him whose voice is like the softest rain,

Him whose hands bear the scars of inconceivable pain.

Let the heavens embrace,

Him, and only Him,

Him whose heart broke at the weight of our deceit,

Him who knelt as a slave before us and washed our feet,

Him who died in torture,

As we cast lots for His clothes.

Let the heavens embrace,

Him, and only Him,

Him whose robes flame in the sunlight,

With the glory of His purity;

Him who ran after us, fell in the dirt,

Held out His hand, cried “I love you!”

And smeared Himself in our filth,

Prostrated Himself gasping at the stream,

Unable to drink,

As the Almighty’s wrath stretched His hands upon wooden beams.

Let the heavens embrace,

Him, and only Him,

Him who walks in the garden,

Calling “My little children, come to Me;

Take shelter under My wing.”

Let the heavens embrace,

Him, and only Him,

Him who holds salvation in His arms,

To caress and to comfort and to love.

Rest against His breast and feel His heartbeat,

For the cross embraced the universe,

Amen! let the heavens embrace.
