@seekjustice Well, actually neither. 😛 Addison is still too normal. It sounds a bit strange, but everyone’s heard of it. I don’t want an ancient name either, like Adeodatus. I want a name that sounds normal, but no one has ever heard of it before, like
…okay, I have spent the last fifteen minutes searching for at least one example and I can’t find any.
Well, to give you an idea, the name I’m using for him right now is Kirth. It’s not a real name, and that’s why I don’t want to keep using it, but it sounds similar enough to normal names that it’s not weird or old fashioned, but it’s not a name you’ve ever heard of.
Does that help at all?

Some of these are very strange. If you don’t like any of them, let me know. I have half a book to go through yet.

September 12, 2018 at 12:42 am #76643@seekjustice Jaron and Keir are great! I like those a lot. Especially Jaron. I think I might end up using that!
I’ve actually heard of all those except Casimir, Jaron, Kier, Kele, and Kiel, so I’m interested to hear which ones you thought were weird? 🙂 Casimir is the weirdest in my opinion. 😛 (No offense to any Casimirs who may happen to read this post at some point.)

September 12, 2018 at 12:46 am #76644They’re both pretty cool names!
I thought Dalbert was really odd. It’s like Albert, but with a D and that just seems crazy. Elbert is also quite strange and brings to mind an Anglo-Saxon prince or something. Amadeus is strange, but we’re more used to it, probably thanks to Mozart.

September 12, 2018 at 12:56 am #76645@seekjustice I’m seriously considering using Jaron. However, choosing a name for a character is such an important task I believe I’ll think on it for a bit just to make sure. 😉 Thank you so much!
Yeah, I think both Dalbert and Elbert made me think of Anglo-Saxon names from my old his-fic and history books, so that’s probably why they didn’t strike me as strange. I think Dalbert would be my next choice after Jaron and Keir.
Oh wow, I just looked up the meaning of Jaron and it’s “he who sings or shouts praises.” That’s pretty cool. 😀
So you’re working on your novel…meaning the third in the Infinity trilogy? (I’m currently wracking my brains to try and remember if you said you were doing another novel. I know you’re working on a couple of short stories, but…)

September 12, 2018 at 1:03 am #76646Well, I’ve just been reading several histories of British kings and some of my favourite names are the Anglo-Saxon kings…Aethulbert, Aethulwulf, Aethalstan, Aelfred. Great names 😛
Yeah, it has a really nice meaning!
Yes, that’s the one I meant. So far, I’m sure it makes zero sense, but at least I’ve started (though I am working on another novel as well, but it’s still in the planning stage)

September 12, 2018 at 1:13 am #76647@seekjustice They do sound really cool. And pretty crazy. Any little boy saddled with a name like that these days would be hopelessly bullied. 😮
I will now be departing for the night. Talk to you later!

September 12, 2018 at 2:32 pm #76651@seekjustice, @rochellaine, can I have the link to the Elsie Dinsmore article? I haven’t read it in a while, but I always enjoyed them so I was wondering what the article said.
anyone writing right now? I’ll be here for about 20 minutes

Kapeefer til we're old and greySeptember 12, 2018 at 3:13 pm #76652@alia The Elsie Dinsmore article is here. I don’t agree with everything the article says, but it does make a few good points. Usually I look at a book differently depending on the era it depicts and when it was written, but there are some things you can’t compromise anyway.
I did enjoy the Elsie books very much too, but I upon rereading I found some glaring problems with them. 😉
So, what do you think of the article?

September 12, 2018 at 9:41 pm #76653@seekjustice Zac is younger than Justice, right? If so, by how much? If not…how old are they?

September 12, 2018 at 9:59 pm #76654Justice is two and a half/three years older than Zac. And they are twenty-three and twenty respectively.

September 12, 2018 at 10:45 pm #76656@rochellaine Hmm, that Elsie Dinsmore article was interesting. I am a bit disturbed by the things mentioned in the article, but it is only now that I am realizing that those things happened in the books, 11/12 year old me had no clue.
I think what bothers me the most about it is her repeatedly saying that she will not let her daughter read them. There are so many books that have way worse themes- not to mention that a lot of books for that age have way too mature romantic subplots! Besides, at 12 I noticed more how Elsie treated the other kids than the racism.
Anyway, I’m writing!
