@seekjustice Oh, yes I remember that from your blog post. π I watched the first LoTR movie…I liked the soundtrack, not the movie πΒ *shields self from attacking LoTR fans*
I'm a Kapeefer 'TIL WE'RE OLD AND GREY!
www.jennaterese.comOctober 20, 2018 at 11:30 pm #77270I love playing around with clichΓ©s in my story. Shu Juqing is basically my experiment at taking all the traits associated with evil princes (e.g. ambition, ruthlessness) and turning them into a force for good. He is great as a friend, companion and ruler… He is just really, really terrifying and horrible to have as a younger brother. You will be treated well if you approach him as a subject or subordinate and try to befriend him from there. But if you expect to have authority over him as an older brother and think that you deserve the throne just because of birth order…
QOD: For Myeongwol, maybe being told she would be queen? For Seungyun, being pampered by his mother and servants or watching his father’s dramas? But for Taekyeon, I know it is watching his mother being mistreated π
ROF: I am not sure about the emperor. Maybe playing with his brother and friends like an ordinary kid? At least, until he had to take over from his father to care for his family. The crown prince was born on the first day of a siege so his first memory was probably being under attack.
October 20, 2018 at 11:39 pm #77271I’m going to have to leave now. I am super tired and my brothers wanted to watch a movie before we go to bed. I might not really be on for a while, because I’ll be pretty busy with school next week and my family’s taking a trip. But I’ll be on November 1st! π
Bye! The character questioning was fun. π

www.jennaterese.comOctober 20, 2018 at 11:40 pm #77272QOD: I think ‘Rewrite the Stars’ from The Greatest Showman really fit Myeongwol and Taekyeon. And as I mentioned before, the soundtrack of 42nd Street in general.
ROF: I am just trying to recall the names of all the epic, grand battle music scores I’ve listened to but can’t.
My question: Your characters can’t sleep! What’s keeping them up at night?
October 20, 2018 at 11:54 pm #77273Bye!
I’m going off for a short while for a swim but I’ll love to continue if you want to. π
October 21, 2018 at 12:14 am #77274WHAT????
Bye π
Ooh, a swim sounds lovely. I haven’t been swimming in ages.
Being king keeps Courageous up at night. I don’t know what would keep Yilla up at night but it would have to be something very, very terrible. Homesickness and/or loneliness would keep High-Praise awake.
Shu Juqing sounds quite interesting. And I actually think Courageous would like having him as a younger brother. Then he could abdicate and Shu Juqing could have the throne all to himself π

October 21, 2018 at 12:26 am #77275Haha I am at the pool now! And I can continue surfing the net here!
Oh, it’s not going to be that easy. If Courageous will not take on royal responsibilities, he will not have the privileges as well. Shu Juqing’s brothers were kicked out of the palace with nothing but the clothes on their back. And they were not even expensive clothes that could be bartered.
It’s your turn to ask a question π
October 21, 2018 at 12:31 am #77276But I’m not sure I see the point of going to the pool if you’re going to spend all your time on the net π
Well, we could argue about that till the cows come home. But at least homeless commoners don’t have to make royal addresses π
INFP Queen of the Kingdom commander of an army of origami cranes and a sabre from Babylon.
October 21, 2018 at 12:39 am #77277I’m having what’s called a relaxing soak.
Homeless commoners have to worry about food though. And even if Courageous stayed at the palace, he’ll be bullied horribly because Shu Juqing would see no reason to respect him as a brother and a prince.
So do you have a question? Or should I come up with one?
October 21, 2018 at 12:51 am #77278A relaxing soak with your phone?
Unfortunately for Courageous, he ends up as a homeless commoner anyway. Though he isn’tΒ technicallyΒ homeless, since he at least gets to live in prison.
I like this character of yours, though it seems like you can’t win with him.
Ah, sorry. I was distracted by suggested wordcounts for YA, and by working out my country’s plan for succession crisis (its flawless—give the illegitmate children a sword each and last man standing is the next king)
What would your character’s preferred holiday destination be?

October 21, 2018 at 1:09 am #77279I’m not soaking with my phone. I’m picking up my phone from time to time to see if you’ve replied. π
Poor Courageous. Is it at least a luxury prison?
Haha. I imagine Shu Juqing to be a love-him-or-hate-him kind of character. I’m surprised that you, the Australian that abhors royalty, are saying that you like him.
By the way, there is one verified way to win against Shu Juqing: be his mother. π
Ah. Plans for succession crises. The best kind of worldbuilding plans.
I am not sure what you mean by holiday destination? An in-universe holiday destination or one that is in the real world?
QOD: I imagine Myeongwol, Taekyeon and Seungyun would love to check out the modern theatre centres like Broadway, West End etc. Or retire in the countryside for Taekyeon.
ROF: There is no rest for emperors or princes.
My question: What scents are associated with your characters’ childhood memories?
October 21, 2018 at 1:19 am #77280I don’t imagine so. Revolutionaries don’t tend to put their disposed kings in luxury prisons.
Well, its true that I have a general abhorrence for royalty, but he sounds quite interesting, and I do admire the fact that he kicks his brothers onto the street.
I’m not sure if I should admire that, but I do.
The question was open to interpretation.
I like that one, its very thought-provoking. Yilla: the smell of horses and dust and sweat. High-Praise: generic spices and perfumes. Courageous: the smell of damp earth and rain.
INFP Queen of the Kingdom commander of an army of origami cranes and a sabre from Babylon.
October 21, 2018 at 1:26 am #77281Just to clarify, it was his father the emperor who kicked them out to the streets. Shu Juqing just… ensured it.
By the way it’s your turn to ask a question.
October 21, 2018 at 1:32 am #77282Ensuring it sounds even more ominous.
Ah, yes. Where would your character like to be in five years?
INFP Queen of the Kingdom commander of an army of origami cranes and a sabre from Babylon.
October 21, 2018 at 1:54 am #77283That sounds like a job interview question.
QOD: Myeongwol would want to have an army to get revenge on her enemies. Seungyun would like his theatre empire to have the monopoly on drama and to earn a noble position. Taekyeon wants his theatre to be thriving and him and his fellow actors be able to live peacefully and with dignity.
ROF: No prizes for guessing what is the crown prince’s goal is for the next five years. Meanwhile, the emperor just wants to hand the throne over to him and be done with everything.
Question: What would your characters fear losing the most?
