Wonderful!
What are you working on?
I’m just getting started on a new play for my little sisters.ย My youngest sister has been begging me to write another one before I get married, so this is a rush job.ย Has to be done by the end of the month. ๐ย I’ve been trying to think of an idea, and finally got one a couple of days ago, and wrote out the plot then.ย So now I have to make a script, write music, lyrics, and possibly design/sew costumes…not a lot to handle, right? ๐

January 6, 2021 at 9:09 pm #88540I’m just rereading my SFI sequel. I opened it randomly the other day and have been reading through it since. It’s better than I remembered ๐
Ooh that sounds so fun! I used to do that sort of thing a lot, unfortunately none of my youngest brothers are very into plays. I hope it works out well! Is it a musical?

January 6, 2021 at 9:32 pm #88541Ah yes, that was a fun book.ย Weren’t you going to dissemble it and combine it with the Quillon story?
Well, the one I did for them previously was a musical, with four songs.ย And musicals are usually more fun than just straight plays.ย So, although I haven’t decided on what songs to write, I plan to write a few if I can.
It’ll just be a short thing.ย I think the last one was something like twenty minutes long?ย But there are only three girls, so that’s about all the lines I want to give them.ย Don’t want to make it all about the memorization.ย And maybe I’m not thinking hard enough, but there’s only so much plot for just three characters. ๐ย But that’s fortunate in this case with my time limit, since I should be able to get done faster than if it were a full-length play.

January 6, 2021 at 9:40 pm #88542I think I was??? Maybe. I can’t remember now. I do like it the way it is though, I just don’t have any cohesive plot for the third book and this one doesn’t end in a duology ending sort of way.
That sounds so much fun! When are you planning on getting married? Are you able to have a big wedding or it only going to be small?

January 6, 2021 at 10:16 pm #88543What kind of ending would a duology need?ย A new leader and form of government and they all live happily ever after?ย Or just a sparkle of hope that someday in the future things will get better?
The wedding is scheduled for the beginning of March.ย We were planning a big wedding, but at this point we’re not sure how many people would be able to make it, so…we’ll see. ๐

January 6, 2021 at 10:40 pm #88544I also don’t really know that, but ending with the execution of a major character probably isn’t it ๐
Are you/were you planning to have a Pakistani wedding like your brother did?
INFP Queen of the Kingdom commander of an army of origami cranes and a sabre from Babylon.
January 6, 2021 at 11:01 pm #88545Yeah, adding a satisfactory ending would be really hard after that.ย I mean, if you had a new leader come in and save the day just before Zac is killed, readers would probably laugh at it as too convenient.ย Whereas if you had all the executions attract the new leader’s attention, but he got there right after Zac’s death, that would just be annoyingly inconvenient. ๐
But what if Quillon’s (or somebody else’s) subplot was about helping bring in the new leader, and trying to get there in time before Justice’s death?ย Wow, I must have my melodramatic teen self’s favorite “Curfew Must Not Ring Tonight” on my mind or something. ๐
Sorry if you really didn’t want any ideas.ย ๐ย ย I’m just rambling on.ย I do like your book the way it is, like you said.
Yes, I am.ย Pakistani weddings are wonderfully fun!ย Do you have any Middle Eastern friends in Australia?
"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
January 6, 2021 at 11:32 pm #88546Yeah, that’s probably an idea. I really want to finish the trilogy this year so I’m rereading the first two so I can get a good idea. The original plot was a Scarlet Pimpernel retelling but the Scarlet Pimpernel is very different to the other two so the third book was coming off more as a standalone story and it just wasn’t working. Maybe I’ll skip the retelling section of it and just focus on making a good, dramatic ending for the trilogy. I don’t know ๐
Not really no! All my non-white friends are East or Southeast Asian, mostly Nepali, Chinese and Korean. Our neighbours are Middle-Eastern but despite being our neighbours, they live a fair way from us and they’re only on their property on the weekends, so we’ve never really had a chance to get to know them.

January 6, 2021 at 11:56 pm #88547Well, I really liked the first draft of the first book, which I think wasn’t originally intended to be a retelling at all, if I recall correctly?ย So unless you feel it’s necessary to go along with your original plans, I’m sure you’d do great with a non-retelling plot.ย Or maybe you could do something Scarlet Pimpernel inspired, without it being an actual retelling.ย Whatever it turns out to be, I’m looking forward to reading it someday.
We have a lot of Chinese and Korean friends, but mostly people who actually live in China and Korea, that we meet when they’re visiting the US.ย There are a couple of Chinese tour groups whose leaders we know, and they will often make a stop at our house one of the days they’re in the US.ย And we’ve had a bunch of Korean exchange students.
