If so, I am a master.
To be short, Christian historical romance. But, in reality, ’tis a high-stakes adventure upon the high seas, with strong spiritual notes and a romantic subplot. It’s the third in my current series.

Everyone knelt, the white fog weighing heavy around them. Jycin could feel his legs growing stiff in the cool damp air, but he dared not move. They would be coming at any moment and he didn’t have the luxury of playing with fate. He closed eyes and tried to distract himself with thoughts of what was waiting at home. Tried to focus on the one bright spot in his life. But instead his mind kept wandering towards his hatred for the priests. For all that they had done. Jycin was well aware that he was seldom reported for his sins, after all there was no one to take his place if he were to die, but these thoughts were a death sentence.
There was a commotion and the entire glade seemed to hold its breath. Someone had risen from their crouched position. Stupid! Now they are going to make us all pay! Jycin bit his lip to keep from calling out. This was not the time for heroics, even if it would only be to save his own skin. No. If nothing more happened maybe only this one person would be punished. Surely it was a child, first time attending the ceremony. He pitied their parents, but Jycin had his own child who would have no one else if he was punished. Surely if he stayed still, stayed silent, then mercy would be shown. Had not his family already sacrificed everything?
“They can’t read your thoughts. You don’t have to live in fear. When they arrive today, there will be more of you than them. You don’t have to live like this anymore.”
The response was a deafening silence.
Jycin cursed under his breath, “What you are asking is not only treason against man, but against the gods. What you are suggesting is suicide and eternal damnation. Now kneel, else we will all be made to pay for your actions!”
“I kneel only out of respect. But murderous priests will never be receiving my respect. They take your children from your arms and slaughter them to appease their gods. They punish you for sins without telling you what those sins are. They have you spying on your neighbors for just a small amount of extra grain. No, I will not kneel.” With that the voice faded into the mist.
Jycin bit his lip and tried desperately to clear his mind. His child, though sanctioned by the elders, did technically belong to the fires of the priests. Foundlings were the filth of the earth, or so they had been told

Thank you! I have both the 1st and 2nd draft open at once, and I realized that already the 2nd draft has a much darker, but more plot appropriate tone to it
