      What writing goals do you want to have achieved by this time next year?

      For me, one would be to continue writing short stories. Something that I’ve really been enjoying lately, plus it has really improved my writing skills by forcing me to hone in on certain key aspects of story-telling. So maybe have twelve more short stories written by next year? My current goal is to write at least one short story a month.

      As for a novel, I would like to focus on one novel this year and try to finish it to the end without stopping half-way through to start another project. (Kinda a bad habit of mine, that has left me with too many partial stories and too few completed ones.) XD

      And then a slightly less concrete goal would be to write a novel or short story that my siblings genuinely love, and not just think is “pretty good” or “above average”. XD I really want to make a story that impacts them deeply and changes the way they look at stories. Now that’s my dream goal right there.

      So yeah, it would be super dope to have accomplished those goals. Maybe sharing them here will keep me accountable. XD It’ll be cool to check in next year to see how much progress we’ve made.

      What writing goals do you have? Big or small, what kind of progress would you have liked to have made by next year?

        AWESOME goals!!! I have no doubt that you’ll TOTALLY be able to accomplish them!!!!! GOOOOO Kathleen!!! *waving pom poms and passing you motivational chocolate*

        I’d like to have at least either an agent or a publisher for Into the Lamp. I’d like to write a few more short stories and get some published in online magazines. (I’ve got a few I’m thinking about…) I’d like to finish Heir to His Crown and hopefully write a sequel for Into the Lamp. I’ve never been able to finish a sequel before so it’d be the most amazinest thing ever if I could at least get very far. That’s about it for the most part. And now I’m off to go write. Okay, really, I’m off to go finish up some homework but writing sounds WAAAAY more entertaining. XD

          This may be crazy, but by this time next year my goal is to have a publishing contract. Either for The Apostle’s Sister or The Anointed, because I am starting to think The Anointed really may have publishing potential. It depends on if I like it enough after a quick first draft, to keep on pursuing it. If not, then I’ll just work on TAS. But TAS is, regardless, definitely getting published someday! If I manage to land a contract for The Anointed, I can work on one for TAS in the meantime.

            @kathleenramm Here okay let me just pull out my bullet journal of completely UNREALISTIC writing goals that I set for myself this year.

            -Finish That Forgotten Summer arc

            -Finish the arc after that one (temp named “Masks” for ease of use)

            -Write the first two parts of the arc after that one (temp named “Gardens”)

            -Finish the three short stories that I started at the end of last year

            -Finish at least one of the two novellas

            And here are new goals that I have added…

            -Have Those Who Were Given Another Yesterday serializing and probably contracted

            -Try to land an agent for either a novella or a novel!

            -And also get a short story published. Maybe.

            Some goals have been ditched, some have been added in these past few weeks…I don’t expect myself to do all of this, but I would like to!

            Lately, it's been on my brain

                The main thing is to have completely finished all of the edits on my novel Calligraphy Guild and be able to focus entirely on marketing it for several months before publishing it in the summer of next year.

                I also would kind of like to publish at least one short story collection set in the same world, because I love this world and I need to get out of my “constantly worldbuilding” headspace and convince myself that I can actually write more stories set there, lol. I have ideas for two collections, one that would give a survey of the entire world (as it currently stands) and one that would be centered on one very specific event in one part of the world. I would just need to actually sit down and write, lol.

                And I want to get another novel in the works, but I’m not sure when that will happen. I’m inclined to rework and rewrite one I’ve already written, but I haven’t devoted the attention to it yet and I currently have several other general-life projects in the works that are eating up my attention. So we’ll see what I’m able to do with that in the next year.

                  Awww, thanks! Your glittery pom-poms and motivational chocolate are making me even more determined to achieve my goals. *Shakes fist in new-found determaination*

                  Getting a publisher/agent and writing sequels is so cool! Have you published a book before or is this your first? My cartwheels are a little rusty, but I’ll be here to cheer you on whenever you need it!

                  @joy-caroline

                  That’s awesome! I can’t wait for the year where professionally publishing will be one of my goals. (Hopefully, it won’t be too far away). How long have you been working on those two books?

                  @devastate-lasting

                  “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.”  At least I think that’s how the quote goes, but I’m not sure. XD Something along those lines.

                  Is this your first time getting an agent or have you gotten one before?

                  Anyway, good luck with your goals! Even making half of them would be quite a feat.

                  @e-k-seaver

                  Cool! Are you self-publishing The Reflections or professionally? How is it going?

                  What’s the premise of Calligraphy Guild? It sounds really interesting.

                    @kathleenramm Thank you! The blurb is this:

                    Dragon ink allows writers to set history in stone—or to change it.

                    Duyên Lai’s dreams are realized when she’s admitted into the ranks of the calligraphers, authors considered trustworthy enough to defend time from those who would change it. She’s thrilled at the opportunity to record her country’s history, and to work with the other calligraphers in her village.

                    But when Duyên’s guild is set upon by ancient dragons demanding a time-changer be destroyed, her world is flipped upside down. Her guildmates turn on each other, suspicion coloring their every move. To make matters worse, she’s begun hearing the dragons in her head and finds them impossible to block out: a condition that rendered her grandmother insane.

                    With the calligraphy guild in turmoil and Duyên’s ever-present fear of madness clouding her vision, will the group be able to discover which of their guildmates has altered time before the dragons pass judgement on them all?

                      My writing goal this year is to finish my WIP, The Snow Warrior.

                      To publish a short story.

                      And of course make another 50k in the next NaNoWriMo.

                        I really only have one major writing goal (even if that’s the only thing I achieve with writing, then I’ll be happy), and that’s finishing my novel. I’ve been writing on this novel for a looooooong time, so if I can have it completely finished/edited/ready to be sent to a publisher by this time next year, I’d be over the moon ^-^ Of course, I’ll have to take into account school and other things that definitely occupy my time, but I’m working towards it *thumbs up

                          @abigail-m The Snow Warrior is a really interesting title! What’s the premise?

                                The premise mostly revolves around the statements “giving up isn’t an option” and “that which doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.” (My poor characters).  The plot is still uncertain, but that’s partly because even though I put my characters through a lot, I like them and I think they would be great in multiple stories. But I am determined to publish the story as soon as I finish it.

                                And I LOVE the excerpt on your WIP! It is super interesting:)

                                  @kathleenramm Ooh…good question!

                                  BTW, to everyone who posted above that I do not have time to reply to because there are so many of y’all and I could totally say a lot to each of you… Awesome goals! I’m so excited to read about those of y’all who are working on publishing! You go, guys!

                                  As for my goals (which I’m grateful to have outlined the other day)…

                                  • Finish and publish my third novel, Bound and Determined.
                                  • Write (and publish) two short stories for my Daughters of the Seven Seas series.
                                  • Write at least 50k in my next novel, Tell Me No Lies. (Don’t know if that will complete the novel or at least get me close, but that’s what I’m shooting for.)
                                  • Write and publish two Christmas novellas.
                                  • Create a separate blog for my writing tips.
                                  • Outline a series of writing guides.

                                  Also, I just started up a reviewing service, so I hope to see that take off; not to mention I’d like to get my driver’s license, get (back) into photography, and begin getting my certification as a childhood development specialist. So, yeah, I’ve got a lot going on. XD (And I think that was everything, but I feel like I’m missing something!)

                                  the resident romance ghost; last seen within the pages of a gothic novel
