@ariel-ashira What I do is I pay attention when I’m singing to what kind of people are nearby.  When I’m in a group of conservative Christians, I sing only hymns.  Then, when I get to know someone better I’ll ask them what kinds of songs they are comfortable with, and if they prefer just hymns/Christian music I’ll continue to sing hymns, but if they’re fine with other songs I’ll sing other songs, but still make sure that they lyrics are ultra-squeaky-clean. 😉

When I’m out in public I sing more of the oldies and stuff like that because the people who will hear me are not usually in the “conservative Christian” category and are more everyday Americans so they won’t be offended by non-Christian songs.

So if I want to sing to a baby or something, I’ll ask his mother what kinds of songs she prefers.

For recording, I’m not sure…I haven’t done that yet except one CD of hymns several years ago which was made just for family.  So, I’ll have to figure that out when I get to it.  Sorry if this wasn’t much help… 🙁

@ariel-ashira Well, I definitely think ‘shady’ songs could make younger believers stumble, but from what I understand you’re also talking about non-Christian good songs, which aren’t necessarily shady- I think, there, your own discernment and prayer is what’s most important. Also, discussing it with people; if they do seem uncomfortable, it could be bad, but some people might also not give it second thought. Paul’s words there almost seem to say ‘gauge the other believer, and if you are causing them to stumble, stop’ so that’s what I think must be done. And as far as recordings… well, I don’t have experience there, but although you can’t gauge the feelings of everyone who listens to it, you can do some similar things. For example, ask people if you did have a recording like that how it would come across to them, and get familiar with what people’s reactions might be, and then you can go from there 🙂

@sam-kowal @rochellaine Thank you very much for your advice!  I agree, and will do so.
