      Wow, those are great!

      Lately, it's been on my brain
      Would you mind letting me know

        @gracie-j *laughs* Well I’m glad you’re super excited.

        Oh, good.

        Yeah, I was on my phone so that didn’t work.

              @seekjustice

              Although I have yet to read Howl’s Moving Castle, it’s been on my “to read” list quite sometime now.

              Whoa, your hook is really intriguing. It really makes me curious and want to continue reading on.

              @joy-caroline

              If the first couple lines of your story are the weakest, then you must have an incredibly strong story! They both make you curious and start to get an idea about who the characters are.

              @e-k-seaver

              I really like how to set the POV character’s and Lilli’s dynamic in The Reflections and in The House That Didn’t End.

              @godlyfantasy12

              Both really intriguing first lines! I love the haunting tone.

              @gracie-j

              Whoa, you weren’t lying about Tell Me No Lies being captivating! Great opening, I would definitely take that book home if a read those first few lines in a library.

              @nova21

              I totally agree with Gracie, both openings are so lovely!

                    Course to Earth‘s opening prologue lines.

                    The reports kept coming. Day after day as the impending danger drew closer, threatening to crush us all. But we had no means of escape, no way to flee the oncoming onslaught.

                    even in a cage,

                        @everyone

                        This sounds so cool.  Everyone has some pretty great first lines, I don’t even know where to begin! I love the flow of words and descriptions, or how you get a first impression of what the MC is like.  I even get an immediate sense of the story’s tone.

                        Okay, here’s the first few lines to an MG short story I did for a college writing class last year:

                        Nothing in life happens the way it’s supposed to.

                        Papa wasn’t supposed to die.

                        The Apothecaries Guild wasn’t supposed to be destroyed.

                        And here’s the first couple lines of my current WIP (MG fantasy):

                        Calloused hands threw me to the ground.
                        “Move it boy!” a surly man shouted. I hiked up my knees and rolled under the battered wagon.

                        Dream. Write. Inspire.

                            I love this topic!!! Everyone’s lines are so interesting!

                            The first few lines in my WIP are:

                            “STOP IT RIGHT THERE!”

                            “Mmm, let me think about that . . . NOPE!”

                            I launched off the tree branch and landed flawlessly on the next branch, going from tree to tree. Like flying through the forest. Each time staying more balanced than the last.

                            I’ll probably change it later, but that’s what I have for now! 🙂

                                  Lol thanks!!! My MC’s name is Daren. She’s from my pirate story! I made a collage for her on the Character/Book aesthetics chat.
