I’m not particularly against the “warrior female” trope, but I am against completely messing up a character’s personality for what’s basically no reason.
Making Martha into an Astrid-like fierce girl would make no sense narratively, nor would it fit with Linus’s role for her in the series. Like Ellette said, I like how she’s not a warrior, but she’s also not a “woe is me! I’m so timid!” kinda character and actually stands up for what’s right, even if it gets her in trouble. (I actually hate wilting violet kinda charries more than the toughies cause they’re just so GRATING to read about. Like, stop expecting everyone to do the defending for you. We can’t all be Huntress or Liberty, but that doesn’t mean we can’t stand up for ourselves if we have to.)

January 27, 2025 at 1:28 pm #196134Honestly, I think this was actually okay. God gives strength, understanding, peace, awareness, revelation, and courage in the time He has chosen for the people who are receiving it.
Those were my thoughts. Even though it felt like the climax was too soon for Alan, I know that if a Christian is persecuted a week after he is saved, God will still look after him and give him the strength to endure.

Ah, yes. Thou hast achieved a good argument for keeping it the way it is.
Pray, thou shalt simply add ketchup unto the mac'n'cheese.
January 27, 2025 at 1:37 pm #196138I did it to Adrian and no one thought that was too soon.
It happens in real life and I think it works well.

Oh boy, a whole discussion about dragon riding warrior girls.
Nope, I have no plans to turn Martha into a warrior girl. My whole goal with her is to create a female character who is neither a Damsel in Destress nor a Mary Sue. So don’t worry about that.
If Martha rides a dragon, it will be out of necessity. Maybe the group encounters an angry dragon in the wild and it seems things are going to head south with it quickly, so everyone else want’s to fight it. Martha, afraid of dragons and their fire, doesn’t want them to anger it into breathing flames, so she insists on calming it down and that forces her to overcome her fear.
I don’t know if I would actually put this in. We will see…

That could be cool.

January 28, 2025 at 2:29 pm #196286Do you have a plan for the front cover? (Ignore this question if you’re swamped with thoughts for the illustrations XD)

Still trying to figure that out. This is what I am currently using, and I may do something similar to this in the end (with a background, coloured, and fully developed of course. I still need to learn and practice digital art.)

January 29, 2025 at 4:25 pm #196386I LOVE that cover idea!!!!!
I wonder if you can scan that in and then go over it digitally. I bet you could.

January 30, 2025 at 7:05 pm #196542@linus-smallprint Looks good!! You can definitely scan a drawing in, although you may want to do some research to make sure it translates smoothly to digital.

I’ve done something similar once before when I worked on this, so I do have some idea of what I’m doing. (I think I’ve shown you this one before). It turned out all right, so I might eventually convert that cover idea I shared. Maybe I will make it my next drawing to protect if I have the time after I finish my current one.
I was going to do more in this series. I had a whole file with heads like this for other races, using Nickolas Kole’s style of art, but then I accidentally deleted the file and couldn’t restore it. Ugh. I was going to make some parts of her braid darker as well to make it stand out more. Now hopefully I will learn my lesson and not delete files I want to keep.
