Hi, everyone! It’s a pleasure to meet you! My name is Andrey, and I’m a Brazilian writer working on a Christian historical novel about the Reformation called The Knight of Wittenberg. I’d love to hear what you think of the premise!

Set between 1517 and 1522, the story follows Lukas von Wittenberg, a 48-year-old former knight who has spent much of his life serving the Catholic Church. Once a formidable warrior, he now lives in the village of Seegrehna, near Wittenberg, protecting its people in exchange for food and a place to stay.

When the villagers threaten to expel Lara, a woman struggling with anger, the local priest intervenes on her behalf. Hoping to help her, he suggests that Lukas take her to meet a monk in Wittenberg named Martin Luther.

Luther’s advice seems surprisingly simple: speak honestly to God in private, and when anger rises, pray silently and step away. Lukas is frustrated. After everything he has witnessed and endured, how could something so simple be enough? Yet Lara begins to follow the monk’s advice—and, to Lukas’s surprise, she starts to change.

Meanwhile, a band of raiders known as the Armed Ones threatens Seegrehna, forcing Lukas to take up his sword to defend the village. But the struggle that unsettles him most begins when his friend Heinz, a lawyer who reads Latin, translates Luther’s Ninety-Five Theses for him and the other villagers.

For Lukas, the questions they raise are deeply personal. He has fought for the Church, killed in its service, and guarded its relics. Now he begins to question beliefs that have shaped his entire life.

What if the things he trusted could never give him the assurance he sought? What does that mean for everything he has done—and for the man he has become?

As the Reformation unfolds around him, Lukas must confront his past, his guilt, and his understanding of faith.

That’s the premise of The Knight of Wittenberg! What do you think? I’d love to hear your thoughts, and I’m happy to be here among fellow writers and readers! 🙂

Since I am Brazilian, every manuscript is currently in Portuguese, but maybe I could translate it anytime. I’m writing chapter 23 now!

Hello, Andrey! I like the idea of your story! The premise definitely stays true to the historical background of Reformation-era Germany, while adding a whole new plot and characters. Will Lara be an important character in the storyline, even after Lukas takes her to visit Martin Luther and the raiders attack? I’d love to hear more about her and the role she plays in the plot. I also like Lukas and how you’re portraying him as a real person with real struggles, but one who wants to do good in the world.

          AAHHHH!!! 🙀

          MORE PEOPLE!?!?! @andreyepds @maiden_moonlight

When will the invasion of these hallowed halls never cease?! Shall I constantly be pledged with running into unsuspecting newcomers on every trip I make to invade that larder? Alas! How shall I remember all these many, many, many names? My brainzes already been stuffed to dur bursting with thr most imported important informations, like, why do crickets only have 3 legs (Because I pulled the others off), who invented toothpaste (Henry Ford), and what is the capital of Indiana? (Idaho)

Therefore our Royal Lowness has come to the very not difficult decision to dubiously dub all invading invaders by the names Thing 1, and Thing 2 (And hopefully NOT Thing 3,4,5,9,17,30. . . My nightly snack shall never be the same 😿) We think this revolutionary and easy coding system shall keep our goopy gray matter from overheating.

          . . . I never introduced ourself, did I?

Welp, our name should be very easy to remember. His Royal Lowness, The l3lack Mongoose, Long Life and Claws to His Irritableness! (Also, I’m trying to come up with my theme song??? The Imperial March just doesn’t have enough class, but Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony isn’t imposing enough. . . Perhaps Sergei Prokofiev’s Dance of the Knights? Thoughts?)

Welp, off to pilfering a pastry. Adieu. 😎

That sounds like a really interesting book! I’m not usually into historical fiction, but I really like this concept you have.

Also, welcome to Kingdom Pen! It’s great to have you here.

Hello! Nice to meet you, and thank you for your kind words! I’m glad you liked the premise!

Yes, Lara remains an important character throughout the story and becomes one of Lukas’s main sources of support. She also has a young son, Johan, whom I forgot to mention in my introduction. Alongside Heinz, a charming and elegant lawyer, they help Lukas navigate his struggles.

Lara and Johan consider Lukas part of their family. Her transformation deeply challenges him, especially as it unfolds at a time when his own world is falling apart.

Without giving too much away, Lara is one of the most important people in his life. Johan adores him and sees him as a father figure and a hero—the kind of person he hopes to become—even though Lukas struggles to see himself that way.
