      @rae

      Guys…it’s really late, I should be asleep, but I’m so disturbed that my hands are shaking.

      This probably isn’t the place to vent but I think I might have overreacted????

      I don’t mind the venting myself, so don’t worry about that. ?

      It seems to me that artist credit is often omitted in art spaces, wrongfully so. For example I’m on Pinterest and I see confusion in the comments over who owns the original art. It seems to be something that is a common issue.

      You’re upset and it makes sense for you to feel that way since you’re interacting with one of these people. Normally I or you would not be arguing directly with online thieves so I see how this became emotionally charged.

      Step back from it and give it some time. It’s the internet. It is a shame that someone stole art but it is also a shame for you to feel super bad over it. You don’t want to let it influence your mood too much because it’s not good to experience that much emotional disruption.

      What can they do by reporting you? If they reported you, couldn’t you explain the situation to whoever makes the decisions? Or maybe you can let the real artists know and let them deal with the situation?

      I am out of signature ideas

        This seems like good advice to me.

        I’ll add to it: When I first joined I got an email from one of the guys in charge, and he said I could email them with any questions. I took advantage of that and asked him for details on what fandoms exactly were allowed, just to make sure.

        I’m assuming you had a similar one. If you can still find it, and if this really worries you, you could probably tell the lead team about it.

          Thank you, I’ve calmed down a lot and I did end up drafting and sending an email to Unvale with the screen recording I was able to get before the page refreshed and the comments were gone. They say they usually reply within 3-7 business days so I’ll keep a lookout.

          I’m not exactly sure tbh, I don’t know how reporting works on Unvale, but I still would like to avoid it as much as possible.

          The problem is the person did technically credit the artists, just in a niche way that basically no one will see unless they’re looking for it. I’m not sure if Unvale would see that as wrong. I will try and see if anything comes by it, but I doubt anything will.

          Though, letting the artists know is probably a good idea. I’ll go through and see if I can collect their names or just make a post on Unvale without any names just warning people.

            I might have? I probably did, but I delete all my emails from Unvale because most of them are just saying my oc got favorited or something, and I also like clearing out my Trash…I somehow find it satisfying. There is something wrong with me.

              @rae honestly clearing out your emails is a GOOD habit so there’s no issue if you did delete it.

              given that you said you sent an email to them, you’re probably fine.

                Good! And letting the artists know at least gives you something else to do, if Unvale is unable to do anything.

                And I’m always clearing out trash emails myself, although eh… hehe…

                  Random thing for y’all:

                  Have you ever found it hard to write from the perspective of a villain?

                  Like, I’m writing a short story from the perspective of my antagonist, and it’s really hard for me to make my guy NOT feel sorry whatsoever for the two characters he just killed in cold blood because they wouldn’t give him what he wanted lol

                  (I guess I should hope that the answer is yes to that question.)

                    Hey sorry you’re having trouble sleeping over this whole thing! Sounds frustrating.

                    Something I’ve learned that might help you is it’s always ok for you to end a conversation for your own reasons. In my opinion, if you’re talking in all caps, or your hands are shaking, the conversation has gone on too long. There’s no reason to argue with people who are wrong online because most of the time if it’s a argument (as opposed to a discussion) you aren’t going to change their mind anyways. There’s a difference in tone between discussing and arguing and the later is useless. Sometimes it’s painful to end a conversation with the other person seeing you as ‘the bad guy’ but just let them think that. Leaving before things blows up is usually the better choice, and for all we know about other people online they could be like 12.

                    I personally think this is a good thing for irl interactions too. Sometimes when I’m talking about a topic (usually controversial) with other people, I can see them becoming really passionate and angry, and usually when emotions start to run high like that chances of a equal discussion are already gone and it’s time for me to excuse myself and find somebody more mature to talk to.

                    Also it sounds like the other person isn’t letting you have a opinion. It sounds like the way they are crediting there artists is incorrect and maybe even on purpose, but something doesn’t have to be ‘wrong’ for you to refuse a trade because it’s your art. You could literally choose to call it off just because you don’t like how they credit it and any normal person would leave you be.

                    Anyways I know you didn’t exactly ask for advice so maybe I rambled on too long lol. Ignore if you like.

                    "Past or future... let them be."

                      @mineralizedwritings good advice!

                      You have no idea how many times I’ve seen someone say something very wrong or even blatantly stupid on the Internet and I wanna point out the flaw in their reasoning SO BAD, but I decide not to because the argument will only end badly for both of us, and I’ll have wasted my time. It’s better that I go do something else, somewhere else.

                        I haven’t thought about it, and I don’t think I’ve ever tried. But I can see how it would be hard. You have to see things from their point of view, which is almost impossible if you don’t empathize at all with their actions.

                        I understand my villains more when they parallel the main characters. That makes them automatically more understandable. The one story I have, with Hugo in it – my dear orphan entrepreneur – the main villain’s motive is the exact same as Hugo’s. They both want a happy, secure home. And they both go to crazy lengths to accomplish what they want.

                        Other than that or a smattering of sad backstory details, I don’t know how much easier it can be to write a villain POV.

                          @whalekeeper There’s not much of a backstory for this character yet, but yeah I could probably throw some stuff in there lol

                            Min has a great point, and you actually have the option of walking away for a few hours or days and it not being rude, because you aren’t in person!

                            But as for the problem, that does seem shady, but, quite honestly, this is why KP is literally the only online platform I’m on. Online platforms themselves can be shady, and there isn’t a whole lot you can do to avoid things like this beyond just not being on the platform. idk if that’s even helpful, but my first response would be that you should probably leave the site. But, if you don’t want to and you and your parents are fine with online things then that’s fine.

                            Sorry if I’m not helpful.

                            Praying everything gets cleared up. Let me know if you have any updates on it. ?

                              UPDATE

                              Unvale replied to me in an email, and just as I expected, I’m disappointed, but at least I didn’t get a bot response:

                              Hello,

                              Thank you for sending an email with your concern.

                              While I do understand that you feel more crediting should be provided, the creator has done everything they are supposed to do within Unvale’s rules. It would be a problem if there was no crediting whatsoever, but the user credited each image just as we require on our platform. This is the standard across all of Unvale and a vast majority of our user’s do this.

                              Because of this, we will not be taking action.

                              I would recommend that if this is something that displeases you, that you do not engage with users who do not credit individual artists in their OC page bios.

                              Thank you.
                              Nova

                              Unvale

                              So yeah, they aren’t gonna do anything about it…Which is honestly slightly disappointing since that doesn’t support the artist’s who won’t get the amount of credit they have the right too, but again, I expected this response *Sigh*. I’m going to make a post on Unvale, letting other people know about this, since that way I can at least make sure some people can get their work credited correctly. @loopylin @grcr @keilah If you ever do drawings for other people on Unvale, PLEASE make sure they will properly credit your work! I’d hate to see this happen to your awesome work!

                              Yeah, I usually do that. I’ve done that before on here when I got tangled in an argument about praying to saints (I don’t believe in it at all). Looking back, I was extremely irrational, and I have no idea what came over me. But yeah, thanks for the advice, I’ll try to keep myself in check.

                                  @ellette-giselle

                                  Sorry, I didn’t see your reply. There is an update above.

                                  I am considering it, though the problem is I have no idea where to go. I’ve been looking for an outlit for my art, and I like Unvale because it’s specifically for oc’s and it also doesn’t allow AI “art”. I’ve only ever see one AI image on there, and it had only been uploaded literally minutes before so the site hadn’t had enough time to take it down.

                                  But since joining, I have noticed a lot of LGBTQ+ users which has kinda made me consider leaving as well. However, this interaction has been the first negative one I’ve had. I actually had a good conversation with a supporter of the LGBTQ crowd who heard me out and we swapped worldviews (I was able to share some about God and the gospel).

                                  I will look into other art sites, and if I find a better one, I’ll let you guys know and I’ll probably delete my Unvale, but at the moment, despite its flaws, Unvale is the best art site I’ve found so far.
