Totally! 100%
She started off as a hero willing to giver her life for her sister……. and then kinda went down hill. Plus, at the end of the first one, they pull their whole suicide threat stunt, and it works. I’m sorry, your government just sent you out there to kill each other on a suicide mission, and then they cave because you threaten suicide. I don’t think so.
Anyhow, the whole survivor message does play an impact in our society. I mean, those books and movies were HUGE! and it’s all about doing whatever you must to survive. Then we have covid, and what happens? Americans make compromises with their freedom that should never have flown all in the name of survival.
Our stories do shape our culture, weather we like it or not. I’m not saying hunger games were solely to blame for what happened, but I do think they, (and stories like them) had an impact and shaped our way of thinking.

Yeah totally. A text, especially something that can be sloppy around the edges (like Hunger Games), can negatively affect the culture of a generation.
I never saw Hunger Games as encouraging a surviver mentality though. It seems to me that Collins was just writing about a juxtaposition between an entertainment-hungry, desensitized society and those people who have to fight to survive because of it. I think that’s an interesting topic to write about. And Katniss never values just herself, she values others.

October 28, 2024 at 12:57 pm #188474yeah, but the survivor message is still there under the surface.

October 28, 2024 at 1:52 pm #188475Is Collins saying we should all act like Darwinist survivors tho? Just because Katniss has a traumatized survivor mentality, doesn’t mean Collins thinks it’s a good thing.
I thought the evil government was about:
Desensitization – – – – dehumanizing others (the birth of the Hunger Games) – – – – now children are traumatized and have to worry for their lives
So the survival aspect is not what Collins likes, she’s pointing it out as a traumatic result of evil
Does that work? I think it makes sense. As someone who know more about the movies and media discussion than the books, I’m not an expert lol.

October 28, 2024 at 3:20 pm #188476@the_lost-journal oh awesome!! I see we have a lot in common. Also, I love your species names.
I’m sure the shark-Argonites and the Arraia would probably get along quite well! I’m imagining an underwater city with both of them….lol. I don’t know how the croc-Argonites would feel about them though.
Do the Pardalis have more human faces or more catlike? The Ailurids look human except for their ears, tails and claws, and their cat paws for feet.
It’s funny that “Eidechse” is German, cause “Drachenheul” came from the German words “drachen” and “heulen” which mean “dragon” and “howl” respectively (according to Google anyway lol), cause the Drachenheul are part dragon part wolf.
Where'd I get ya this time? The liver? The kidney? I'm runnin' outta places to put holes in ya.
October 28, 2024 at 10:58 pm #188493Hey everyone I wrote a VERY VERY VERY short story about kingdom pen! enjoy!
@ellette-giselle @whalekeeper @keilah-h @theshadow @raxforge @koshkaA mysterious figure walked down an empty path, “Where is everyone?” He asked himself. “I came to this kingdom to find amazing writers and poets, I heard legends of all the stories found here! So where are they?” The cloaked man walked down farther on the path. He look all around for anyone.
He came upon a city with a beautiful castle. “This must be the Kingdom of the pen! I have heard that their writing is almost as matched as their honor for God!” He walked down the city streets, looking at all the empty buildings and topics. “I thought this place would be very lively, with conversations and story telling happening everywhere!” He looked ahead and saw a young woman, sitting alone on a bench. “Uh hello?” The cloaked man called out. “Where is everyone?” The young woman turned towards him, “I am not sure… This was the city square, it used to be full of life, and now it is empty. I awoke one morning to find nothing…. Nothing at all.” The woman explained. “I am sorry to hear that, I am the Story teller, and you?” The Story teller asked the lady/ “It doesn’t matter, I am leaving tonight. I am no use to you.”
The Story teller watched as the young lady stood up and walked away quietly. “What could have happened here?” He wondered. The Story teller walked up to the castle and found it empty of guards. “Hello?” He called out. He began to wonder the castle, looking for life. He finally made it to the throne room, and found nothing, he walked up to the throne and sat down. “I must write a story about this!” He thought aloud. “A whole kingdom disappearing for an unknown reason, why?” He began to write, he wrote for a long time, until the sun began to set. “I must be off, the people of my village might be wondering where I am!” He grabbed a new book from his bag, a book that had blue leather and Dimond crust on the side. He pulled out a special quill, and began to write something in an absurd language. Suddenly a portal appeared, a mix of many color and on the other side was an old fashion village with people waiting for him. He walked through, and left the quit kingdom behind.
I hoped you like this VERY VERY VERY short story! I made it for one reason, and one reason only!
Is everyone ok? It has been quit on here… And it has made me grow in concern, I know that @theducktator is on vacation but… I just want to make sure everyone is okay. And I understand if you just have a lot of work, I get that, but it would bring me much relief if I knew that! So if you guys could just say you’re busy then that would make me so happy! And I hope I’m not coming off as rude or creepy, its just that I have gotten so invested in this “world” and the amazing people on here I would never want anything bad to happen. I hope you guys understand. Thanks, and again I hope you enjoyed.

October 28, 2024 at 11:42 pm #188496Is this why you’re a sad potato now? By the way, I’m actually back. I returned Saturday. KP is never very active on weekends, so don’t worry. It will be more active again later in the week. Weekdays are generally the most active time, probably because of all the homeschoolers. I have been super busy, but my biggest school project this semester is due tomorrow, and I should have more time after that. 🙂 You didn’t come off as rude, just concerned.

The squirrels are collecting more nuts than usual this winter. I've already lost 3 relatives.
October 29, 2024 at 12:21 am #188498I’m sorry you worried – you do not need to, I assure you! 😁 It can sometimes feel like things are slowing down for good, but usually people are just busy in real life. This forum is not one of those forums which has slowed down since it began, fortunately. Lots of people are active right no even if they aren’t posting anything.
One day, no one wants to talk, the next, we’re debating on something like nuke-wielding ducks. It’s similar to how friends can talk for a while and have intervals of silence.
Ducktator speaks truth, weekends are wonky. I’m actually sightseeing in Washington DC right now.

October 29, 2024 at 7:27 am #188500I’m on and active every day until around 12:00 to 1:00ish, when I try to shut down my laptop for the day. So, yeah, I’m still here! In fact, a TONE of us are still here. Maybe you’re just looking at the wrong forums….. ?
idk, anyhow.
People are here.
Also….. I will be here until the end of time. So, there were always be at least one Keeper.
As for the story, it was depressing. Don’t do that to us, dude.
LOLOLOLOL
Just joking. But it WOULD be depressing if everyone went away.

October 29, 2024 at 7:31 am #188504Ok, thanks for replying! I just felt like starting from Wednesday last week people were more quit than usual! But thanks again for responding!
nuke-wielding ducks
Yes but who would win? Nuke-ducks or laser equipped-dolphins?

October 29, 2024 at 7:58 am #188505Yeah, we do! Your names are also really great!
I’m sure the shark-Argonites and the Arraia would probably get along quite well! I’m imagining an underwater city with both of them….lol. I don’t know how the croc-Argonites would feel about them though.
Yeah, sorry the croc-Argonites caught my eye, because they have gills. And the Arraia do have mostly an underwater city. But they are the only people who can breath under water so if the king wants to meet with them, they have to have a part of there city above the ocean!Do the Pardalis have more human faces or more catlike? The Ailurids look human except for their ears, tails and claws, and their cat paws for feet.
The Paralis (Which I forgot to mention are based off ocelots and their name come from part of the scientific name for ocelots.) doesn’t have a cat like face, they don’t have whiskers, it just their eyes that are different.

And as for the story, thank you so much! I was trying to make it sad, while using one of my most mysterious characters!
