        RANT TIME (lol)

Soooooo, this novel with Matthias has a second MC (Stefan Nolan Nachtnebel) who will likely be a low-rank soldier in the Heer (regular German army; the entire military of Nazi Germany was called the Wehrmacht, which included the Heer, Luftwaffe (Air Force), and Kriegsmarine (Navy) (the Schutzstaffel was another thing entirely))

anyway, his moment of realization (which will probably take place around the same time that Matthias begins pretending to be a Jew) happens when he witnesses and is forced to take part in the first of many atrocities he’s forced to take part in. He was likely drafted in the first place, but still saw himself as fighting for a better Germany, but when he witnesses those things, especially the mass executions, he begins to question everything

eventually, he wants to fight back but feels helpless to do so.

he begins to question why the people around him seem completely apathetic to the suffering around them

and when his best friend (Ernst Weber) reveals that he’s been hiding a secret all along, Stefan feels betrayed by the entire world, even the person he thought he could trust most

I’m trying to decide if Stefan deserts OR if he stays.

Either way, there will be a moment where he has to choose between his own safety and the safety of Ernst and Daria (another character…SPOILERS)

anyway, I’m pretty excited about Ernst’s “betrayal” (not at all a betrayal, just how Stefan sees it at first, heh)…I have a big plot twist planned👀

anyways, just had to rant a bit XD

OH, and I still need to decide which fate Matthias ends up choosing (because his father gives him two options)…

although if Matthias chose the second option, I could connect his novel to some of my other novels.

          hmmmmmmm

              I love this scene!

Welllll, you already know I like Matthias. 😛 But I think I have to agree with you—I like Moishe too. I get the vibe that he has a layered backstory, more than he might be willing to share… 🤔

Sooo… I just came up with a possible novel/novella/short story idea that I really want to write… Basically, this person, probably a girl, is told that she is the chosen one, or something like that, but she refuses. She doesn’t want to get involved with this at all. So the special responsibilities/quest/privileges are given to someone else, preferably someone she knows. She’s okay with that at first, but as time goes on, that other person is getting all these praises and accolades and people love them. The MC starts getting jealous and that jealously and envy grow inside her, practically turning her into a villain, and she sets out for revenge/praise of her own.

                What do y’all think? 👀

                    Hi everyone.

So, most of you know Chase at this point, my shapeshifting shyiad who loves to hang out in alleys and forests.

I decided to write the first draft of a book about him.

He’s one of two MC’s, the other one being a journalist named Kat. That’s her working name, but it may change. And no, she is not Chase’s girlfriend.

The story is set when Chase is in his twenties and has moved a good couple hour drive from Shyton. He works as a forest ranger of a forest that is shrouded in mystery. It’s considered a must-see for wildlife photographers, enthusiasts, and recently some cryptozoologists who have begun combing the vast forest. The amount of people that go missing every year at this place is surprisingly high, leading to many believing they are captured by aliens or cryptids. The sight is known for multiple cryptic sightings around a hundred years ago, but for now there is only one that seems commonly spotted, the Black Wolf.

This is the creature that captures Kat’s attention. Her nephew got lost in the forest, and was found unharmed by Chase, but the little boy told her about his guardian in the forest. The Black Wolf is agreed to be larger than the average wolf, and has bright green eyes. Instead of hunting with a pack, it is often seen alone, and will even fight other wolves to protect lost children. The creature has never tredd to harm those he rescues, but will do anything to keep them comfortable and safe as he slowly leads them to safety. Once in a place deemed safe by the cryptic, the wolf then bounds away. Every single close encounter agrees,

                    • It is a large black wolf
                    • With bright green eyes
                    • As soon as it appears, they usually feel strangely calm
                    • It leads them to safety, defending it from threats and sleeping next to them to keep them warm at night
                    • Leaves them in an area where it vacants quickly and they are soon found by someone
                    • Occasionally appears once more supposedly to make sure they’re okay about a day later.

If you know even a little about Chase, you know what this is.

But oddly, Chase can’t explain a piece of the forest. Animals avoid it, even fiersome predators and flying birds. Once you reach the border of the area, everything goes deadly silent. Chase himself feels overwhelming dread when nearby and hasn’t dared to go far yet.

I’m still plotting out, but I think most of the first half will be Kat discovering Chase is the Black Wolf and thenthe second half, her helping him discover what lives in this region of the forest.

Would you want to read this (especially not knowing who Chase is?)

                    "You need French Toast."

                      @esther-c

Ooh that could go deep pretty quickly!

Esther 4:14: “For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish.”

God can always give a task to someone else to accomplish His purposes if the person He chooses says no. That’s really humbling when you think about it- why would you not say yes to the things He has for you when you know this? He can always raise up someone else, but what a privilege it really is that He would ask you to do something.

Not to try to change your plot or anything, but I think it would be cool if you eventually turned the story into redemption- that after the MC has started striving for praise and fame, things fall flat and she finally realizes that selfishness is only backfiring on her and she comes to a moment of repentance and heart change. Idk maybe you could have her given a second chance or a different task, and this time she does it willingly, in humility.

Those are just my thoughts, you don’t have to do any of that if you don’t want to, but that’s what popped into my head.

Ok I will 😂 I want to start brainstorming it this afternoon (since it won’t be anything longer than a novella) but I’m not sure if I’ll get to it or not.

Ooh, I like that idea!! This is definitely still in the plot bunny stage, so any ideas are welcome. XD

Honestly, the very fact that you can come up with an idea and have it as a short story is great, when I have ideas they always either turn into a whole saga or become a scene in a larger work.

The idea itself is interesting! I’d say write it!

I have more of Matthias (and others!!)

A scene (although there may be more at the beginning of it) and a snippet of the next scene (although there would be a POV scene from the 2nd MC between these two scenes, of course) that I wanted to share!!!

                            here it is!!!

and I officially love Moishe even more❤️😭💖

“I was very careful when I left! The courier never arrived, Moishe. What else could I have possibly done?”

Moishe’s dark eyes blazed with what Matthias already knew to be anger. “It’s over, Matthias. If you can’t even attempt to be careful, then it’s over. I will find someone else to gain intelligence—”

                            “Give me another chance, Moishe—”

“I’ve given you enough chances! It’s over, Matthias, and that’s final.”

His opportunity—the chance he’d been granted to help the innocent would be stripped away. He’d attempted to help—he’d tried to do the best duty he could do—but it still couldn’t amount to something good enough for Moishe. “What are you so afraid of, Moishe?”

Moishe turned on his heel. An emotion Matthias couldn’t quite distinguish passed by within his dark eyes; before Matthias could utter a word or make a single move, Moishe’s firm, calloused right hand gripped his collar, pulled his feet off the ground, and pushed his back against the cold concrete wall. “I have every reason to be afraid, and so do you, Matthias. You fail, and innocent lives will be lost. You could be betrayed at any moment. You could be deported at any time. They could take you into the woods and shoot you like they shot my pregnant wife.”

                            Matthias’ heart lurched. “Like they…what?”

Moishe’s grip gradually loosened around Matthias’ collar. He lowered him onto the floor and stumbled away; Matthias saw him reach out for the wall to halt his body from crumbling onto the floor. Moishe’s head hung, and his strong hands trembled.

The anger Matthias always assumed had been fueled by a deepening pain. Matthias didn’t utter a word, lacking the capacity to even move his lips.

“I had just started resisting. The ghetto was full then; the Nazis hadn’t done any deportations yet. I thought we were safe, and I wanted to fight back in any way I could. My work made me spy on the Nazis within the ghetto, just as you have to do. I left the ghetto one night to provide the information I had gathered…when I returned, my wife and so many others I had known were missing. The Nazis had found out there was a spy inside the ghetto but didn’t know who it was. In retaliation, they took three hundred Jews and led them into the woods…they killed all of them. They shot each and every one. They shot—they killed my wife and our…our unborn…” Moishe’s voice cracked, “our unborn child.”

Matthias ran his dry tongue over his lips. How could he have been so ignorant—so stubborn? He was so fixated on saving the innocent that he hadn’t even thought of the lives already lost and the lives that remained—the lives that carried the regret of not being able to save those who had been in need of rescue.

“Three hundred born lives and one unborn life were lost that day, and it’s all my fault, Matthias. I failed…I thought I knew better than everyone else. I thought I could do it alone, and my failure ended hundreds of lives. I don’t want you to fail, Matthias…I don’t want you to bear the regret, the guilt I will forever bear.” Moishe’s head slowly rose; his eyes met Matthias’ own. “…I don’t want you to make the same mistakes I did. That’s why it’s over, Matthias.”

“I-I’m sorry for what happened to you, Moishe…but please, give me another—”

“I can’t, Matthias. For the resistance…for innocent lives…for your own wellbeing, I can’t give you another chance.”

“I will not let you down, Moishe, I swear. I will do whatever you ask…I will follow every rule. I swear to you.”

Moishe’s eyes dimmed with a miniscule moment of sympathy. “I can’t. I’m sorry, Matthias.”

Everything he desired, even needed—everything he’d fought so hard for…all of it would be torn away, never to be held by him again.

Everyone he wanted to fight for—the good he so desired to do—none of it would be granted to him again. All because he could mess up.

                            “Moishe—”

Pounding footsteps echoed upon the hard floors; Avrum and Charna both ran into the room, gasping for breath. Moishe went to them both, and Matthias quickly followed behind. Moishe’s hands rested on Avrum’s cheeks, Moishe using his fingers to tip his brother’s head up, forcing their matching brown eyes to meet. “Avrum, what is it? Where did you run—why—who hurt you!?”

“It doesn’t matter, Moishe, it doesn’t matter,” Avrum breathed heavily, “but there’s going to be a deportation. They’re taking the old and the young…they-they are going to send all of them to a death camp.”

“They have no chance of escape.” Charna whispered sadly.

                            “There’s a way…there has to be.”

Moishe’s gaze cut to Matthias. “Matthias, don’t.”

“We have to try, Moishe. When will the deportation take place?”

“Tomorrow night…but Matthias, we don’t have enough manpower—”

“We have to try, Charna. If we don’t try, who will? There have to be others…there has to be another resistance around. We have to rescue as many as possible. Moishe, Charna, Avrum…who are we to stand aside and do nothing?”

Charna’s gentle, soft hand rested on Matthias’ left shoulder. “Matthias, this is very dangerous…we may ruin more lives than we’d save.”

Avrum nodded. “I think Charna’s right, Matthias. I don’t know if we even—”

“…Matthias is right. We cannot stand aside and do nothing.”

Matthias’ gaze steadily met Moishe’s. The man who had rarely treated him with nothing less than harshness offered him a look—a moment—of kindness and, dare Matthias think it, even respect. Moishe offered a small nod. “We will do what we can. Now is not the time to back down.”

                            ………

“This is more than a fight for Jews…this is a fight for all of us. We have combined our resistance duties to save hundreds of Jews from this ghetto, but we fight for all of Germany. Matthias and five others will enter into the ghetto to begin rescuing the people. Some of the men under my command will secure trucks. The rest of us will create a distraction if need be.” Moishe whispered, the cold night air surrounding him entirely still.

Matthias folded his arms across his chest in a likely futile attempt to keep his body warm. The discomfort would have to go unnoticed—much more important than comfort was the likelihood of saving innocent lives that were unaware of the danger looming ever closer. He pushed his glasses against the bridge of his nose. They wouldn’t fail—they couldn’t afford the hefty price of failure.

He looked around at the other men and Charna, all of whom gathered around in the miniscule space. They all desired to do what he so craved: save the innocent lives that lacked the abilities to save themselves.

A resistance from a small city miles away came to their aid, for which Matthias was grateful. The Violet Iris resistance, led by Reverend Ezekiel Gessner, a German Christian pastor, seemed to be a relentless resistance.

Matthias couldn’t lie—they seemed to be compromised of some of the most passionate men he’d met. He doubted that any of them once had their heads buried in the sands of cowardice.

“It’s time. Matthias, you know the plan,” Moishe’s dark eyes met Matthias’, “lead Avrum, Charna, Leo, Reuben, and Riker into the ghetto. Take small groups at a time; I and some others will cause distractions outside the ghetto walls to lure the Nazis inside out. Good luck…and don’t let me down, Matthias.”

Matthias stood taller; he offered Moishe a firm nod. “I won’t.” He motioned for those who would follow him to remain close behind him. He snuck forward, each step seeming to echo through the still air; he silently forbade his body to do anything but remain calm and perform the duties he was required to perform.

He quickly approached the tunnel hidden beneath a loose board close to the walls he had used endlessly, his entrance into and exit out of the ghetto for months. Crawling on one’s hands and knees wasn’t hygienic, nor was it typically acceptable, but innocent lives mattered more than what was regarded as acceptable manners.

“I will lead the way. Avrum, I need you to carry the back. Everyone else will fall in the middle; follow me, and I will lead everyone into the ghetto.”

Matthias slipped into the dark chasm, quickly clambering onto his hands and knees. Charna followed just behind, with Riker and the two Baumann brothers following behind her. Avrum took his position in the back—every moment was going just as Moishe and Matthias had planned all along.

If only Matthias could be certain it would remain such a way.

I read the scene you just posted and teared up. Poor Moishe.

Please don’t kill Moishe. It may be a pretty amazing wrapup if Mathias is killed (not that you are planning to do that, I’m just a fellow writer{rather concerned btw over those choices[does he go to a camp?(If he does, is it the one Riker is stationed at?)]}), but please…that would just be cruel.

                                And not Avrum either?!

@freed_and_redeemed My reaction to Moishe talking about them shooting his wife was the same as Matthias’s lol. “like they WHAT NOW?!”

So they’re spies or something? That’s kinda cool. I also love all their names, they’re pretty unique.

And hey! We get to see Leo/Reuben and Riker! A little weird seeing them from the outside perspective of these new charries, when formerly at least one of them was the POV.

Where'd I get ya this time? The liver? The kidney? I'm runnin' outta places to put holes in ya.
