Hey! I’m doing well!! I actually am making quite a bit if progress on my series! I’m doing some late-night sprints – mid-day sprints – ect. I also have an anthology that I’ve been curating coming up in the fall and I’m super excited about that! That, and books sales are steady and that’s been a huge blessing!
Awesome! <3 I’m sure an anthology is a whole other beast compared to a normal novel, but it also sounds like a whole other kind of fun XD How does it feel to be a semi-well-established author now?
How are you doing? How’s your writing going?
I’m doing.. well, not the best I guess. Writing’s okay but life is harder.
I’m a junior in high school and unlike most of the other students, I don’t know much about college or what I want to do as an adult. I get a lot of weird looks when I say that, people telling me “you’ll do great at so-and-so” when I’ve never looked into that thing. My friends are all high achievers and I’m expected to be as academic as them. But I’m not. And it kicks me in the butt constantly, especially because I’ve proven myself to be on the more intelligent side and it feels like I’m not living up to my potential.
All that aside, I’m enjoying the spring weather! And I watched a fun movie last night, so there’s that 😓😊

Where'd I get ya this time? The liver? The kidney? I'm runnin' outta places to put holes in ya.
April 18, 2024 at 1:35 pm #178980@esther-c If you don’t have any ideas for your older story, I think it’s okay to set it aside and wait until you have inspiration.
I have tons of half-filled notebooks containing stories I haven’t written parts for in years (but who knows, maybe I’ll go over them again and think “Hey, I can use this in my next story if I change it up a bit!”).
Writing a new one and putting the previous one away for a bit might actually be helpful to your creative process. Now, if you were talking about abandoning the story entirely, that’d be different, but that’s not what I’m getting from you.
If what you’re asking is “is God okay with it?” then…..Well, ask HIM, not us, lol!
I know, you said you’re already doing that.Where'd I get ya this time? The liver? The kidney? I'm runnin' outta places to put holes in ya.

Thanks for the thoughts, y’all!! Your opinions are helping me figure this out a lot. I might just step back from it for a while, or try to write a little farther ahead in the story and see what happens.
I was gonna save this new WIP for NaNo this year buuuuut…. Yeah that ain’t gonna happen. 😂

April 18, 2024 at 2:29 pm #178984This is a book I’d totally read!! I’ve actually been reading too many books outside of the genre I write lately. XD Authors are always saying you should read lots of books in your genre, but I enjoy reading his-fic so much! lol! I really love this idea though! Be sure to tag me if you post any snippet of it. 😊

April 18, 2024 at 11:43 pm #178986True. Though, I was known for a ridiculously large smile when I was little(r) so large both rows were at least partly visible. And that one stupid canine tooth that grew faster than my other teeth that for a while looked kinda like I had a short fang. Anyways, I often imagine that wide smile on Mandin. So it’s not completely wrong, but thank you for mentioning this. I shall change it.
That makes sense. One of my brothers used to smile like that.

So, I wrote a scene.
Bob dumped his papers on the table. “Let’s go over the plan one more time. We drop in from the clouds. Emerald and Jasper knock out the main guards. Topaz picks the lock, Serpentine, you distract the other guards and surrounding humans, and I and the other lead the captives to freedom. Any questions?” No one had any. “Good. Meet back here in one hour, then we attack.”
After the other ducks dispersed, Bob turned to his wife Serpentine. He hadn’t told her yet for fear of being wrong, but he could wait no more. “Tina, rumor has it that a descendant of King Bartholomew has been found.”
Serpentine laughed lightly. “Bob, rumor isn’t exactly trustworthy, you know. And everyone knows that. Do you pay no attention to gossip?”
“Not really.” Bob hopped onto a chair and grabbed a history book. “I think it’s true. Her name is supposed to be Nadine or Natasha or something.” He shoved the book at her. “All the rumors agree on one thing. She has the teapot.”
Serpentine narrowed her eyes. “You really believe these ridiculous tales? Not just the rumors, the teapot, the pineapple, the Sparkle Sword. Bob, you’re a scholar. You’re supposed to be smart.”
Bob sighed. Why did she never believe him? Maybe he was an idiot. He tried again. “The legends are all true, Tina. And even if they aren’t, ducks have hope now. More and more are joining the resistance. We will retake the kingdom, free the ducks, live without fear. Think of our Egg, Tina!”
Serpentine dropped the history book on the tiled floor. “Our Egg will grow up fatherless if you don’t stop trying to incite an insurrection!” Bob lunged for his book and flipped through it. Thank goodness, it was intact. “You care more for that book than you do your own wife,” Serpentine sneered.
Bob ignored this. “I’m trying to give our precious egg and thousands of others a better life. I thought you were a part of this resistance.”
“I’m in this for revenge.” Serpentine’s voice was cold. “I will see the human who murdered my family killed. But you have got to get this preposterous notion of overthrowing them out of your head. You are not a hero, Bob. All you care about are your plans to ‘save the world’.” Her last phrase ranked a nine on the sarcasm meter. “You are a fool with a sword, and a narcissistic one at that.”
A fool with a sword? Was that what she thought of him? “Shut your beak and leave, Serpentine Gadwall. If you don’t like the way I’m running the resistance, you can quit.”
Serpentine’s enormous black eyes filled with tears. “Don’t you love me anymore? You know what I’ve been through. I’m sorry I’m not good enough.”
Bob took her in his wings and kissed her. He had been selfish. “Darling, I was horrible. Please forgive me.”
She sniffled. “You were horrible. But it’s okay. I know you didn’t mean to be.” Bob squeezed her again and went back to his plans. Suddenly they seemed stupid and unimportant. The magic was long lost, the “queen” was probably fake, and it would take more luck than they had to take the human palace. Bob sighed at the thought of Tina’s tears. He was a pathetic excuse for a drake, and he had made Tina cry. Hopefully the palace attack would succeed. Maybe that would lift her spirits. Bob carefully put his book on top of the refrigerator. It was time.
What was your impression of Bob? Serpentine? Would this work for an introduction to Bob? Does the ending seem choppy? Any addition comments? It seems bad to me, but I don’t know why. It could just be that it’s past midnight.

I like this new story. A lot. Matthias sounds amazing. Charna sounds amazing.
I know it’s not a main WIP or anything, but I would like to hear more of this book whenever you have any other randomness to share. =)

and y’all haven’t even met Avrum, Moishe (I am loving his personality already, y’all, even tho he will appear rude at first😂), Stefan, or Ernst.
Y’all….
I love Ernst so much 😂💖💖

April 19, 2024 at 3:28 pm #178995@theducktator ooh interesting!
I like how the female duck is called Serpentine, a long, majestic, complicated name (how’d she get it anyway?) and then the male duck is just Bob. Brilliant.
Ending’s a bit choppy, but that’s nothing editing can’t fix.

April 19, 2024 at 4:43 pm #178997Anyone want a Matthias scene?
(also feat Charna, Moishe, and Avrum, lol)
Matthias followed Charna down the winding halls, his shoes echoing much louder than he once anticipated. The winding halls were dark, and dare he think it, even foreboding.
They seemed to stretch on endlessly, as if they were paths that led the unsuspecting into a dark, endless chasm.
“Through here,” Charna instructed, her long black hair swaying with her every movement, her nimble fingers pushing open a simplistic, rustic door that barely clung to rusted hinges.
It wasn’t entirely what he’d imagined—he’d imagined a place much grander, perhaps filled with what could only be described as spy materials from the American movies he’d always adored.
“Avrum, he is here.”
Striding over with a playful, lanky stride, Avrum flashed a boyish grin that Matthias recognized him by, appearing ever so more as the boy he truly was even though there were times he tried to make the world believe he was a man. “Matthias! Moishe is waiting for you just in there,” Avrum pointed over his own shoulder, “so come on, now, don’t be afraid, my friend.”
Charna offered a slight nod and a small smile. “Lead on. I will follow just behind.”
Matthias approached a wide dark oak door, chipped in some places from the damp room he stood inside. He eased the door open and stepped into a room where a single man stood in wait.
Moishe took a step forward, his full black beard almost causing his darker face and form to fade into the shadows of the dimly lit room.
He carried himself with courage accompanied with a gait Matthias could only presume was one of confidence. His eyes roved over Matthias for several moments, his dark eyes ones of scrutiny. “…I thought you would help Charna recommend someone useful, Avrum.”
“Moishe—”
“He is a German, Avrum. A Nazi, for all we—”
“I am no Nazi, and I am far from useless. I wish to help. I desire to aid resistance work in any possible way I am able. Please, give me the opportunity.”
Moishe’s left eyebrow raised. One edge of his thin lips curled into a partial smile. “You wish to be a hero? Then I have no time for you, young child.”
“Moishe, give him a chance.”
Moishe turned to face Charna. “Charna, you are anything but a fool. Don’t waste your belief on a hopeless man.”
Charna frowned; she folded her arms across her chest and raised an inquisitive eyebrow, her eyes filled with what Matthias already knew to be determination. “Have you forgotten? Moishe, you know as well as I do that not one of us can be found outside in the light of day or else risk capture. With Matthias, we might have a chance!”
“A chance of being betrayed to the Nazis? A chance of being discovered?”
“It’s time to stop being afraid, Moishe.”
“We all have reasonable reasons to be cautious in this time, Charna. You should understand that better than anyone.” Moishe whispered in reply.
“We all must be careful of what we say; it is not only the Jews who have been persecuted.”
Moishe turned on his heel and faced Matthias. He chuckled and stepped over, stopping a mere few inches from Matthias’ own form. “I’m afraid I only take men and women who are willing to follow orders and who are willing to give everything for the cause of the resistance. I bid you farewell, Herr Richter.”
He wouldn’t even be granted an opportunity. He wouldn’t be blessed with a chance to do something right. He’d drug his head out of the sands of cowardice, yet not a single door wished to open. “Just give me a chance.”
Moishe waved a hand in dismissal, turning around to where his back faced Matthias’ frame. “It’s not worth my time. Maybe you can come back when you have matured, Richter.”
Matthias dared a step forward. “I swear to you that I will not let anyone down.”
Moishe scoffed. Slowly yet surely, he turned to face Matthias again. “You have determination, I’ll give you that, Matthias. I have no reason nor any obligation to trust you, given that you are German and given who your father is…you are only here because of Charna’s insistence…but I will offer you a chance. Only one. You mess it up, and you will leave without even a protest and will not be allowed to return under any circumstance. And if you dare to reveal what we are doing here, I will not hesitate to send one of my men to end your life.”
He’d be granted an opportunity to do something right—a once in a lifetime chance to fight for those who lacked the abilities to fight for themselves. “Yes! I understand entirely.”
Moishe smiled, the first smile Matthias had witnessed upon his face, and nodded in what he could only assume was approval. “Good. You will return home, and a courier will bring you a message when it is time for whatever duty I decide you are fitted for. Act like all is normal, Matthias, and I will speak with you shortly. Don’t mess this up.”
With his words seemingly finished, Moishe turned and marched out of the room, closing the hardly working door behind him. Avrum flashed a playful grin and ran off to catch up with his brother.
Matthias released a steady breath from his lips. The innocent had to be defended; he’d been granted a gift, an ability, a chance to stand for those who lacked the freedom to stand.
“Moishe agreed. It’s a miracle.”
Matthias gently turned to face Charna. She smiled softly; she stepped forward and gently took Matthias’ hands in her own. “Just don’t let us down, Matthias.”
“I won’t.” Matthias whispered, promised, swore.
For the innocent, he couldn’t afford the hefty price of failure. Matthias’ fingers intertwined with Charna’s own, and he made a vow to never stand down…an oath to never fail given that only success would be acceptable.
ngl, I like Moishe in an odd way 😂
who’s y’all’s fav from this one scene? (i know it’s hard to choose from one scene, but still, I wanna know LOL)
