That’s AWESOME! So exciting! Congrats on the anthology too!!!
How have you been??
I’ve been doing pretty good! Saturday I had 4H judging for my photography and creative writing projects so all of last week was a stressful rush to finish everything up. Glad to have a normal week to work on stuff. 😅
I rolled the log over and underneath was a tiny little stick and I was like, "That log had a child
July 17, 2023 at 11:51 am #151173Thanks so much!!
That’s good you’re doing well!! And yeah, I know what you mean. This past month has been… phew XD

July 17, 2023 at 12:22 pm #151181Ughh KP ate my post, so I’m trying this again…
A couple people saw my topic about a novella I’ve been trying to start, but here’s the summary if you didn’t:
The main character has had cancer since she was nine years old, and she’s fifteen now. They knew it was getting worse and she’s known for a long time that her life would be shorter than most people’s. The story starts just after she’s found out she only has a few months to live. In the beginning, the character wrestles with her feelings and God. She starts to change over the course of the story and learns to trust God more, and that He knows what’s best.
I guess I just feel like the beginning might feel too depressing, since I’m trying to write basically all the character’s emotions and her going through doubt and starting to lose hope over the course of the story. But at the same time I want it to be sad too, y’know? Like, I want the reader to feel what she’s going through, but at the same time, not feel unsettled or depressed by the thoughts that she’s having.
So yeah, does anyone have any ideas on that? Also, I’m not really sure how to make the transition, either, from her state of thinking, so I would love to hear any tips you guys have!

July 17, 2023 at 12:33 pm #151183@Hybridlore hmm, I’m not sure, I thought the idea was super cool. Idk I guess I just like dressing stuff and drama so I’m not much help
But do you remember?
August, honey, you were mineJuly 17, 2023 at 12:41 pm #151188That’s ok!! Thanks!!! 😉

July 17, 2023 at 1:06 pm #151193Okay so I’m getting major Christian movie vibes XD
and I think something, like God’s not dead, would be interesting (not sure if you’ve seen that)
but you show several different stories (like mini-stories) of people who are dealing with her illness and maybe other things, but there’s still a main story about her, and her feelings
also, does she have any siblings? cause that could be a really sad but sweet story

-ThorneJuly 17, 2023 at 1:12 pm #151196Aughh no I haven’t, but I probably should lol
Oh ok! Yeah, so maybe like sideplots? I’ll probably have some scenes with her friends, family, maybe school (that’d be harder to write xD I’m homeschooled), but if you have any ideas for others I’d love to hear them!!
Yep!! Two brothers, was my plan, but I’m not set on that, I can always add more or change their genders lol 😉

July 17, 2023 at 1:15 pm #151197Also here are a few quotes I found
-some things break your heart but fix your vision
-Love the people God gave you because he will need them back one day
-there are some people who bring a light so great to the world, that even after they have gone, the light still remains
-you never know how strong you are, until being strong is the only choice you have

-ThorneJuly 17, 2023 at 1:19 pm #151198Wonderful movie, highly recommend it
Well, you could show the parents’ journey, and maybe the best friends’ story too
ooh brothers are fun, are they older or younger, I think at least one should be older
ooh I have another idea!! What if one of the brothers is a teen, and the other is an adult and just married, so we see them go through this as a couple
just an idea

-ThorneJuly 17, 2023 at 1:20 pm #151199Tysm girl!!! They fit the story so well!!! I’ll have to find some pictures of them so I can add them to her moodboard 😉😁

July 17, 2023 at 1:24 pm #151201Oh, ok! Thanks!! Maybe I’ll check it out 😁
Yeah, that’s true! I was thinking about switching points of view, but not completely sure about it yet, I don’t really know how I would write theirs.
Yeah xD I was thinking one was an older teen, and then one is a few years younger than her, so she’s a middle child
Ooohhhh… I like that!! Idk, maybe I would just do he’s engaged, but yeah… And it gives me another character 😅😂
Thanks so much for your help girl!!! ❤️❤️

July 17, 2023 at 1:30 pm #151202Ok, so you said that you don’t want the story to be too depressing, but you still want the readers to feel the MCs emotions. Well, a way to do that is have at least one character who foils the MC. One that has great faith in God after going through something difficult. So that character has joy in their life despite their pain.
Maybe the MC sees that and kind of brushes it off because that character has a great life, so it’s easy to have hope. But, then the character has a conversation with the MC that shows they didn’t/don’t have so great a life, and that will help with the MCs arc. It will challenge her thinking.
As for making the transition from one mindset to the next… well… I struggle with that too. But the hugest thing is focus on realism. While she may accept the truth at one moment, she’s not going to be able to live it out overnight. She is going to struggle to put it into practice and realistically, the devil is going to try to snatch away that seed of truth. So make sure she struggles, but also make sure that someone is there to help her out along the way. That someone is there to help her grow. That could be the character I mentioned earlier.
So I hope some of that helped. 🙂 Good luck!! I really love this idea! 😊

July 17, 2023 at 1:39 pm #151203Wow, I didn’t really think about foils, but that sounds perfect 😅 So maybe one of her family members… Oh I might pair yours and @smiley’s ideas xD What about her brother’s girlfriend? Idk if it should be someone she’s with a lot, but that might work…
It will challenge her thinking.
Oh good… she needs that… 😏
XD

That’s true… I’ll definitely have her struggling, probably having different mood swings and changes of thought (just like me 😅)
Tysm!!!! This really helped, and honestly now you guys have me excited about it 😂😉 As for the foil thing, can’t believe I didn’t think of it, but I’m glad you mentioned it cause that might be just what she needs 😅
Thank you!!!! I hope I’ll be able to write it too 😅

Sooo…uh…y’all…I’ve been thinking about The Bois, Adolphus, Dietrich, etc…and I may be changing ages a bit, lol, and I guess I just wanted to tell y’all 😂😂
The Bois will stay the same (Leo at 28, Joshua at 25, Jakob at 24, Reuben at 20, Wolfgang at 18) but I’ve been thinking about making Adolphus/Dietrich both younger…and making Adolphus/Leo the same age, instead of Adolphus being 30, so they’re kinda like twins, but of course, Adolphus has different parents, but still XXD
And then Dietrich would be 26 instead of, like, 29, which would make him younger than Leo…
idk why, just wanted to share with y’all 😂😂
(and y’all, for another thought,…idk what it is…but Adolphus/Leo look too similar to each other y’all…like, too similar even tho they’re supposed to be stepbrothers XXD)
