Oooh he looks cool.
Sorry I basically died. I wanna get back to this soon 😭 I’ve been having a brain blank, but I think it’s slowly fading away… XD

Ahem…
Narrator: And here we are, about to witness Bethy pretending like she knows how to write a segment of a library book, based on things she didn’t bother to research. Bethy is scared.
Bryce
Bryce accepted the book and flipped it open. His gaze began sweeping across the words and images, and his mind absorbed the page in an instant. Read it slowly, he reminded himself. This was leisurely reading, not a fast-paced crime scene.
His mouth apparently did not understand the objective, as Bryce began reading rapidly, trying to keep pace with the speed of his thoughts. Only did he stop at the end of a paragraph about the heart, as he wondered if Tavar caught any of the words. Bryce had never read something aloud with time to kill, and it felt weird. It was especially odd when reading to a guy that was just beginning to learn the English alphabet.

Narrator: Sigh… Beth did not write a library book. Not even a sentence. Disappointment.

October 14, 2026 at 4:08 pm #214262Beth did well. No need for disappintment.
Tavar
A waterfall of words slipped from Bryce. Tavar leaned forward in his seat, eyes wide, mouth parted to catch any stray droplets of knowledge.
The vital organs and their shapes and significance to the body rushed past his imagination. This was not about the mind then. That fit the varried diagrams he had come across while picking out the words he knew.
There was so much to learn at once.
A sudden pain pulsed between his eyes. He closed them so that the river of information flowed over him.
Bryce stopped.
“You read well. Are those the letters they use in your country?”

October 14, 2026 at 8:09 pm #214301Moth
Well done. Moth’s chest rose a little.
He tilted his head in a sort of shrug, eying his attempt. It looked like he had some skill – even though that was not true. His initial wish for the shot had been much humbler. “I must make offerings to serendipity in my sleep. How do I know where the arrowhead will fly?”

October 21, 2026 at 7:17 pm #214608October 21, 2026 at 7:31 pm #214616Wolf can speak if he wishes! Or walk away and start training. Lol. Here are the most recent posts in our character group:
Jasper
“Every weapon strikes my fancy.” Jasper chuckled, shaking his head at himself. “When I wish to distract myself from something, I experiment with new weapons. I have a preference for the one on my hip. Of course, from your vocation alone, I would be a fool to think your sword is of lesser use than mine.”
He snapped his fingers. He found himself doing that a lot, just to put a mental pin in something.
“I used to hear knights’ tales from an old nurse of mine. She was from my mother’s country.” He snapped his fingers again. The existence of a knight’s code was such a fun idea, and Jasper had a fondness for it. “When I am with my little sisters, we like to play make-believe. I come up with random rules to make them laugh. ‘My lady, you must never blow your own nose without mine aid!’ – ‘The greatest virtue is the ability to break wind without making a sound!’ – ‘Or is that the greatest villainy?’ Foolish things, but there is nothing wrong with filling a child’s life with the prettiest foolery. I love my sisters.”
He glanced at Wolfgang as he said this. Then he strode to the arming racks and studied his options. “That nurse… Polina, wasn’t she called? She started crying over me every night when I was in my cot. Thought I was covered in blood or grown an extra head. Quite insane. We had to send her away. Before that… she told me something. She made up those knights’ tales so I’d learn to follow nursery rules and feel righteous about it. The joke is on her, because I knew that. But I loved her.“
One last finger snap. “Your love for your sword is what gives the sword power. Wouldn’t you say?”
He spied something he liked. He grasped the handle of a heavy morning star. The metal head was the size of a human’s head, covered in spikes. He hoisted it up and took an offensive stance, facing the nearest target dummy,
After years of training with morning stars – one of his other preferences, besides his sword – he loved the weight. This morning star was not of the flail style, but still required a lot of skillful energy distribution.
There was a delicious danger in wielding the tool of a brute. Heavy metal, hanging from chains, covered in sharp things – they were the riskier tools, but they brought more satisfaction than a plain blade.
Jasper sized up the target. He lunged toward it, sliding his hands down the handle at the last moment to maximize force.
With a loud crack, the weapon lodged itself in its target, and the dummy’s head caved in.
Wilhelm
He watched in silence as Jasper destroyed the dummy. Morning stars were strange. A weapon of priests, praised for being “bloodless” yet entirely malicious. Seeing it in Jasper’s hands shook something in Wilhelm, something uncomfortably cold and small.
“My love of the sword neither gives nor removes its power. It only enables me to use it.” He began browsing the racks for a longsword and shield. The weapons were intentionally blunted, or should have been. He glanced at Jasper’s choice.
“You like to fight. I suppose the codes of knighthood are not useful for you now you are out of the nursery. Have you been to war?”
Jasper
“Yes.” A memory of his hands, smaller in young age, shaking and covered in bloody sweat. “Have you?”
Wilhelm
He hesitated. The sunlight was golden here. Its jubilant rays soaked the world in laughter.
“Yes. I’m a Kemp. Although my father sent me back from the only large battle I have been in.” He had also been sent back from every attempt to fight outside of battles. A familiar set of dark blue eyes flashed across his vision. They were just as helpless as before, only angry about it. Wilhelm pulled a sword down and weighed it in his hand.
“If only there was peace in the world already.” He swung experimentally at a dummy. The thing rattled from the strike, but otherwise showed no harm. Good.

October 21, 2026 at 11:05 pm #214634Ari
His body tensed with confused alarm at Moth’s comment.
“Archery is more by instinct than anything else. You focus on a specific point you want to hit, and then line up the arrow with that point.” He absently knocked and drew as he spoke. It whipped home as he glanced back at Moth, then at Ellis. “What is serendipity? Why would you make offerings to it?”

The young archer continued to prove his skill, and the other two boys watched. He showed no signs of straining, for he shot smoothly and without physical complaint.
It was easy to see why Ari loved this. It looked as easy for him as breathing.
“It is just a saying. A different way to say my shot was good fate,” Moth said. “Do your people make offerings to something?”

October 21, 2026 at 11:58 pm #214637Ah, my poor little boy. Don’t worry child, you’ll be fine.
Ari
“No.” The word lept from him in a breath. His gaze went wide. Hands gripped, knuckles white.
“No. Never. It wouldn’t do any good. We will…go…just the same.”
Death. The void, as Father says. So unnatural. And if the Scroll is to be believed…
The silver in his eyes vanished into midnight. He pressed bloodless lips together.
But there was life here, now. The steady thud of arrows and targets pulsed in the air. High windows cast long rectangles of yellow warmth over the floor, over them. He sucked in a breath. Pushed it out.
“What would we even offer? What do people offer?”

October 22, 2026 at 12:07 am #214639thanks for being the polite one and giving the RPs. I was too amused at the moment to be responsible.

“Some of my people offer small cakes or fresh cream to the fey or other spirits. Usually more as a token of friendship than anything.” Ellis drew his bow again, taking into account the things Ari had pointed out. The shot went too far right, missing the target entirely. He grimaced.

October 22, 2026 at 12:09 am #214641Ellis is completely missing the point of Ari’s question. I apologize

October 22, 2026 at 12:21 am #214642Ryuu looks like a cool character! I have a loose character wandering around somewhere in the academy that he can meet if you’d like. His name is Lois (but just pronounce it Luis in your head it will make things easier)
