And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who couldn't hear the music

Moth hooked his arm around Ari’s, linking them together so the boy did not fall to his death. The two of them whipped about, the wind ripping through their hair and clothes. If not for Moth’s abilities, they would fall off instantly. It was like being caught in a death roll. One moment they were upside down, and the next, yanked upright again.
The worms writhed together as they traveled across the dark land, making twisted patterns with their bodies. They threw themselves up and fell back into the upturned earth, like fish leaping bellies first out of the sea.
“A friend of mine, he calls this a rollercoaster!” Moth yelled over the squelching and crashing of cascading dirt. “Do you know what that is?”
Ari yelled back something hard to hear. It sounded negative.
“Me neither!” Moth laughed. “It is a fun ride, is it not?”
He let out another unearthly shriek. “My brethren! You bring me stories from all corners of the world! Tell me of the shaking, of the quaking, of her pains! Tell me a story, so you cease to bear it, and I bear it alone!”
The worm the boys rode threw itself forward. Suddenly there was peaceful silence. Over its side, the moonlit grass rushed past, untouched. They were in the air.
The worms floated over the uprooted gardens, slowly traveling upwards – a mass of headless, limbless, wingless creatures, writhing through the clouds like so many dragons skinned of their features.
Moth pressed his forehead against the beast’s smooth, glittering skin. He listened to a song hidden for only his ears to hear, and fell into a hazy trance, his mind led into a senseless darkness.

June 20, 2026 at 3:24 pm #212475Hey, it’s not as weird as some of the things that have happened when our very different fantasy realms mix. (
I don’t know either)A cup of tea is cheaper than therapy.

“A what?” he yelled, eyes squeezed shut. Moth laughed.
“Me neither! It is a fun ride, is it not?”
Fun wasn’t the work he would have chosen, but it was certainly exciting, as long as he didn’t slip and die. Much like tying himself behind a dozen wild horses and hoping he didn’t end up dragged to a pulp.
Honestly, he might have preferred the horses.
Moth let loose a shriek that ran ice in Ari’s blood. He clung to creature and boy as all was wrenched up and forwards—
Calm. Wind rushed past Ari’s ears, ruffling his tousled hair. He slowly opened his eyes. Soft light touched the grass below them and gilded the rolling fog. The rolling clouds.
Ari lifted his head. The creatures around him gleamed silver and white under a pale moon. They were flying.
Flying.
His heart lurched, breath hitched. The wind stung his eyes till tears leaked out down his cheeks. Moth’s threads of white magic still held them in place though it he boy looked unconcious.
So this is what an eagle sees.

“What kind of river?” Wilhelm asked absently as he pushed himself back to his feet. As delightful as a little chaos was for a small while, the disorder was already eating at his nerves.
He began pulling the mats back into place. Their smell intensified as with every slap against the stone floor. Herbaceous green was overtaking what he now realized had been the smell of sweat. Not that Wolfgang seemed to mind. He was going on about some river he had been fond of as a young boy. Or maybe it was a drink.
The evening was grown late. Wilhelm glanced out the window, a frown creasing his forehead.
“Wait. Did the curfew bell ring while we were sparring?”

“Any river, I don’t care what river, I just want to drink it. Preferably a clean river. maybe one in the Alps. Well, come to think of it, a river might not be the best idea.”
“Wait. Did the curfew bell ring while we were sparring?” Wilhelm interuptted.
“I dunno,” Wolfgang replied. “Who cares if it did.”
