I will interact with Ellis either today or tomorrow
Ari is the most fiery kid ever. I love that for him. I don’t love whatever reason he’s so angry, but I don’t know that reason yet, so I am forced to withhold my thoughts.
He and Moth should be room neighbors. If you want. I think they’d balance each other well

A bright ringing laugh burst from him. “Tournaments are for knights, like in King Arthur’s day! We don’t have knights anymore. Well, the Brits do. I always wanted to go to England. But no, the Olympics is a huge competition that the best champions from every country in the world come to compete in. There are all sorts of things there. Reinhard likes the equestrian competitions best. Surely you’ve heard of the Olympics,” he added, lowering the sword. “Every country in the world sends champions to it.”

May 25, 2026 at 4:28 pm #212172I’m amused that Wolfgang hasn’t connected the dots, especially considering Wilhelm’s 11th cent clothing, rooms, and culture. XD I know he thinks it’s impossible, but something should be tickling his subconscious by now.
Wilhelm
Either this boy was confused or Wilhelm was. Or perhaps both. The idea that knights were antiquated brought Wilhelm’s eyebrows together in a frown.
“I think this wëralt, this dominion of man between the heavens and the grave, is perhaps too large a place for one competition. My people would not travel such a distance for a game.” He took the opportunity to take his sword from Wolfgang. His heart beat steadier once there was no danger of his head getting lopped off in a misfortuneate swing. “It would be interesting if we could, though. Is your sword made for these games?”

May 25, 2026 at 11:35 pm #212173Callum
Somewhere in Callum’s echoing headspace, Ellis’ voice rose to the surface. It took a minute to process everything he said. He was friendly. Understanding, even.
It was rather dark outside, and crickets had begun their evening song, but lamps lit up the bench from either side. The lights were like splotches of butter-colored paint, melting into the cobbled path.
Callum blinked until the world didn’t look like watercolor anymore. He said the first thing that came to mind. “A dog.”
“What?” Ellis asked. Judging by his tone, he probably thought the other boy was still half knocked out.
“I had a dog instead of a babysitter, but… I was told I could manage without her while I’m here. Clearly accidents are still going to happen. You… said you have visions?”

May 26, 2026 at 9:04 am #212180Wolfgang is far too scatterbrained. If anything he thinks it’s a costume or interesting traditional clothing. That boy doesn’t stop to breathe, let alone think things out like this.
Wolfgang
“Wining the Olympics is one of the highest honors! I would love to fence in them, but I’m not sure that I would be skilled enough. Most champions train since they were very little children, and I only began a few years ago. But, I am good enough to beat Reinhard!” he chuckled at this.

May 26, 2026 at 2:03 pm #212182Lol. He might need to learn to notice details if he’s going to lead a rebellion.
Also don’t remember if they already talked about family. Maybe I need to keep better track of details.
I kind of spoke for Wolfgang, but I tried to write it so you could change his lines as you like.
Wilhelm
“Reinhard is…?” Wilhelm looked back from hanging his great sword above the fireplace. He left the question of “highest honor” alone. Wolfgang’s nation was beyond his desire to understand.
The window to his right was dark with a lavender evening. The curfew bell would probably toll soon. Unfortunately, Wilhelm was no longer tired. Adrenaline was running too high in his blood for sleep to come any time soon.
“Reinhard is my brother. My older brother…” Wolfgang was still standing beside the table, talking as if they had all the time in the world. Wilhelm relaxed until his weight was balanced evenly and his breath was soft.
“I have an older brother too. Otto. He’s a squire of the body now, one of the bachelors. He is stronger than I, but I can usually win a bout or two. Speaking of which-” On impulse, he pulled out a training sword, one almost identical to his arming sword except for being blunt, and spun to face Wolfgang.
“Would you like to fetch your sword and have a bout of our own?”

May 26, 2026 at 5:41 pm #212184No worries. I like the response.
who says he’s leading a rebellion…..
Wolfgang
He nodded eagerly, then eyed the sword with a critical glance. “I like you’d snap my rapier in two with that thing. We don’t use swords like yours nowadays you know. I wish we did,” he added with a longing glance toward the sharp sword Wilhelm had taken from him a few moments ago.

“Yes.” Ellis paused, thinking of how to explain. He had never had to before. He lightly touched his forehead where the blue diamond-shaped mark was. “I have a sort of extra eye. When it opens, I can see important moments in time. Many of my ancestors had the same ability, and they were able to use it to defend our kingdom from unseen or future threats, whether they were invading armies or assassins or natural disasters. That’s how we earned our name. The Stormwatchers.” He sat up straighter and his eyes glittered with pride as he talked about his family legacy. “None of my visions have proved to be very significant yet, though. They tend to be rather confusing…” He stared out into the distance for a minute, before adding distractedly, “It is getting quite dark, isn’t it? I wonder what time it is.”

The Stormwatcher legacy was impressive. Scary, even. Callum could imagine having visions, since he already knew half of the experience. Ellis had something to contribute to his family – something helpful. Maybe it didn’t require much ingenuity, which was something Callum needed because he had no born powers. But it sounded challenging nevertheless.
“Dinner ended around six-thirty.” Callum had missed dinner. If he hadn’t been so late, he would have experienced the critically acclaimed academy chef’s food that very night. But he had the rest of the year to try it. “It’s been an hour or so. I think curfew is at nine.”
He untied his hairband, letting his braids fall loosely onto his shoulders. This alleviated some of the tension in his head. He sighed, crossed his arms, and looked across at Ellis thoughtfully. “What’s the most… confusing vision you’ve ever had?”

By the way, his arming sword is a little under a yard long. His great sword is probably five feet, a precursor to the Zweihänder sword if he was in our world.
Wilhelm
“So instead you use flimsy weapons? I don’t see the wisdom of that. What about glaves and halberds? But nevermind. I’ve another trainer here somewhere.” He tossed the arming trainer to Wolfgang. “You can use that one, if you would risk using a weapon you did not train for.”
He began rummaging through the things that the porters had stacked against the wall beside his curtained off bed. Soon he had two shields of different sizes and his other trainer. It had been the one Otto used when they sparred. He couldn’t help smiling as he slid his hand around the hilt.
“Here.” He pushed a shield over to Wolfgang. “Now to find a good place. My quarters are really too close for good combat.”

May 27, 2026 at 3:46 pm #212202I was just reminded that I have an old Ellis drawing that I never shared (I don’t think?)@anyonewhowantstosee
the outfit isn’t really accurate but it’s close enough. Also the skin color and background colors are kinda weird but it’s fine

He surveyed the shield before setting it on the table. “I don’t need one of those.” He lifted his left hand in the air and tried an experimental flick of his wrist and shuffle step. The sword point wobbled and struck the floor. Wolfgang frowned. “These are very heavy weapons you have. I don’t see the sense in them any ore than you see the sense in my rapier– which is not flimsy.”
