@jenwriter17 @dekreel Looking up the meanings of Biblical names is always interesting, because most of them do have real significance to the stories! 🙂 Here is one of my favorite examples of that.
Something I thought when reading the passage that we have heard Ruth’s “I’ll go where you go” speech so often we forget the true significance of it. Ruth was giving up everything she had ever known to go to a country where she would be known as an outsider. If she went, she would probably never see her family again; her husband was dead, so there was nothing to really make her want to go with Naomi, but she chose to leave EVERYTHING and go follow God with her mother-in-law. I have the feeling we take the “I’ll go where you go” to mean something like “I love you and want to be with you all the time” while it really means “I am giving up everything in my life to serve God.”
We should be willing to give up anything and everything including our comfort, our families, and our lives for God.
"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
March 2, 2018 at 9:21 pm #65351@jenwriter17 What you said about God caring for us:
It’s hard to imagine that God could care for every single person. there’s just so many people. but He does, ’cause He’s God. Which is a comforting thought actually…..
Reminded me of this quote which I read in a book and liked so much I saved it:
"Sylvester - Sylvester!"
March 2, 2018 at 10:20 pm #65359@rochellaine hmm, good point about Ruth giving up everything, It’s hard to give everything up for God sometimes
I like that quote “The Lord Almighty, He know” 🙂

www.jennaterese.comMarch 3, 2018 at 7:22 am #65379I’ve read Ruth chapter 1… and I had a sneak peak at chapter 2 as well. I love how Ruth is able to sacrifice what she wants for someone else in need. That’s pretty hard in life and you can see it displayed a lot even in small ways. I guess it tells us that we need to be people capable of sacrifice.

March 3, 2018 at 9:31 am #65383I read chapter one yesterday, and I thought it was interesting, my bibles commentary says that Ruth might be a Moabite modification of the Hebrew word reuit, which means friendship. Which seems fitting for her because her faithfulness to Naomi (and God) is what stuck out to me in this first chapter. I mean can you imagine leaving your homeland.. going to a strange place with strange people. Ruth was willing to go where ever Naomi did. If that isn’t faithfulness idunno what is.
and I was so confused
March 3, 2018 at 9:42 am #65384Yeah, Ruth chapter 1 is definitely an eye-opened. She left everything behind to follow Naomi. She let it all go and completely trust God and Naomi. That has to be the hardest thing for me in my life. It is almost impossible for me to let anything go, but it’s getting better. So, it’s really nice to see Ruth do that.

March 4, 2018 at 4:01 pm #65553@jenwriter17 Actually commentary may not have been the correct term. My bible doesn’t have one that goes through the whole scripture. It just has little introductory bits at the beginning of every book 😉 But I do quite like reading it before I start a book.
Since it’s Sunday I don’t expect a lot of activity on here today but I went ahead and read the next chapter.
I guess the thing that stood out to me is how God provided for Naomi and Ruth through Boaz. It can both be a challenge to trust that God will provide, but to also be willing to be used for Gods plans.. Like Boaz was. 🙂and I was so confused
March 4, 2018 at 4:31 pm #65560I’ve read chapter 1 and 2 now and agh yes. Something we can all learn from Ruth is that she’s such a hard worker. And a cheerful one.
Also, Boaz was so in love with her from the very first moment and I am totally shipping these two. XD

www.jennaterese.comMarch 5, 2018 at 11:11 am #65605Ruth 2 for me threw up one major point. That Boaz and everyone else knew what Ruth had done. By giving up her livelihood for another and being sacrificial, she distinguished herself as different to a majority of the world. This is so important as it shows by doing things that honour others and God we are being salt and light to the world. As my signature says, we should be separate in Christ.
