@whalekeeper @loopylin I mean sure, you can team up, as long as it doesn’t get out of hand. *hides behind a tree*INTP 🧡 Homeschooler 🧡 WIP: The Color of Hope
December 11, 2024 at 1:22 pm #191825December 11, 2024 at 1:46 pm #191827Ok. Here is 100 words exactly. Only 50 more to go! Beware.
There was something mysterious about the Grey Wood. Viktor tugged a fern straight and watched it spring back into a tight curl the moment he released it. The undergrowth was deep enough to hide anything. Animals, people, or castles.
Nadian’s shriek echoed behind him. Viktor winced.
“Lord Valsvur, surender thy bulwarks!” His sisters pounded the fort wall with their sticks. Whatever resemblance this game had once had to the actual Tale of Height and Water had dissolved long ago, except for his supposed title. Viktor flung a clod of dirt over but ran before he heard Alyona’s cry of outrage.

December 11, 2024 at 2:27 pm #191828OK! Here’s 70 words from your new favorite story. Happy now? XD
It was a simple breakfast of apples, flat bread, and a strong, white cheese. It would have been scorned by her foster mother, but oh, how good it was! And as she ate, Aiche told her stories of the things he had seen in the hills. They were curious stories that sent a tingle up her spine. Had she trusted him less, she would have thought he made them up.

Little bit more than 500 words but I had to finish the scene : )
Oh, and you probably know Liz as Liv (The scientist from my wip OLH) I had to change her name bc she looks like Olivia Octavius from spiderverse… I can’t use the same nickname too, so she’s Liz for now.
Liz tip toes through the ship, carefully peeking into the bunks to make sure the crew is asleep. Cool starlight spreads through the round windows in the living area, dancing on Flax’s remaining feathers. His chest slowly falls up and down, wings curled over his body as he lays on the couch. Liz looks away, reaching for her boots. She’d seen many sickly creatures throughout her career, but Flax always felt different. Liz slowly opens the door, cringing as the vacuum seal releases a gush of air.
Tall skyscrapers rise almost as tall as theirs, each with holding bubbles and parking lots for spacecraft covering their tops. Liz steps into the elevator into the complex below, her heart beating.
“Don’t get too cocky with that white lab coat.” Linus says with a laugh as he sprays whipped cream on top of Liz’s drink. “You’re still just Liz to me.”
Liz smiles. “You know I can’t come around here too much anymore, I’m not working in the—”
“I get it.” He smiles, popping out the till and getting her change. “I saw the news, everyone’s talking about your last publication.”
“Oh, that!” Liz blushes, rubbing the back of her neck. “Yeah, the way their all squealing over it you’d think I was solving cancer or something.”
She laughs. “I’m being nominated for the next years Randell’s prize. If I win—I’ll probably be scouted to do work for the empire and—” Liz looks at Linus wiping down the counter in front of her for closing. “Oh—”
“I’m sorry I just got excited—” Her smile fades. “I’m sure I’ll maybe still come by here, y’know, if they let me.”
“It’s ok Liz. You were always destined to do great things.” Linus smiles faintly. “I’m proud of you.”
Liz peeks through the crowds of people, looking for the familiar orange neon sign. Tables sprawl across the vast food court, all the way to the large windows on the other side of the building. Stars twinkle outside, and the neighboring solar system slowly wheels in the sky in the distance. A couple solo travelers brood at the corner tables, blasters held across their lap or thrown under their chairs.
A worker slowly makes the rounds, busing the tables closest to the coffee shop. He stops, tucking a rag into his belt. “Lizz…?
“hey Linus… sorry it’s been so long.” She laughs.
“Oh no, it’s ok.” He says, staring at her wistfully.
“What?”
“You look… different from how I remember. Aha! Where’s your lab coat?”
“Ah… it got ruined on one of my missions, it’s nothing really. I guess I do feel kinda lost without it.” Liz buries her hands in her pockets.
“Yeah? Come on, I’ll make you a drink.”
“Oh—”
Actually… I can’t say no to that.
“Thanks.”
Linus walks beside her, studying her face. “You’ve always been such a hard worker Liz, as long as I’ve known you.”
“Hm? Oh, thanks.” She smiles sheepishly. “Well, what’s been going on here?”
“Nothing really. Just the usual stuff. We broke up a fight last week.” Linus laughs, pointing to a small red scratch on his forehead. “You’d think this place was exciting from the way it looks, but we get to stay out of the news most times. It’s just the same year on repeat, really. If I didn’t get a couple new wrinkles every year, I wouldn’t know any time had passed.”
“I miss you coming by on these quiet nights.”
Liz leans on the front counter, fingering the worn edge of the composite. She looks up at Linus, standing a couple inches taller than the last time she saw him, nearly five years ago. His grey green eyes sit deeper in the frame of his boney face, and shaggy black hair hangs roughly between the two horns curling over the sides of his head. “Linus, I’ve missed you too.”
Linus looks up from the steaming machine. “Goodness Liz, did ever even think of me?”
“—I did, really…” She says. “Well—I don’t know, but now that I’m back here I’m just remembering everything. I guess being a student wasn’t that bad—”
“Now it’s just experiments and orders just– everything’s different for me.”
“Well, you’re here, so you don’t have to think about work, how about that?” he smiles.
Liz laughs.
“Here’s your caramel macchiato with extra whip. Did I get that right?”
“Oh!” Liz stares in aw at the perfect spiral of whipped cream on top, with caramel drizzle. “Yeah—I think so. It looks beautiful.” She smiles sheepishly, taking a sip.
Warmth radiates through the paper cup into her hands. “Wow.” She pauses, feeling tears well in her eyes. “It’s just like I remember it.”
Linus smiles. “The caramel isn’t house made anymore.”
“I-it’s—” Liz blinks, trying to keep the tears in.
“Aw Liz…” Linus smiles. “Is it that good?”
“Um—” Liz panics, wiping her face against her sleeve. “—Yeah.”
“I-I’m ok now.” Liz says, setting her drink down and taking a deep breath.
Phew.
“So, what happened that you got to come back here?”
“Oh…” Liz sighs, pulling up a chair. “I’m not working for the empire anymore—” Liz chokes on her words, watching as Linus’s mouth opens in shock.
“Liz! What—” He rushes around the other side of the counter to stand in front of her. “Liz what are you doing? What are you doing here?! They’d kill you!”
“I know, I know Linus. It was a choice.”
“A choice for what? And you came to see me for what? You should leave, if somebody knows you’re here they’ll come get you!”
“I know, I know these things.”
“Liz…” Linus covers his face with his hands, leaning over. “Why… why would you do this?”
Linus leans over to embrace Liz, glancing around the empty mall as though the agents were already there to take her from him. “Oh darling… Why would you let this happen?”
“I didn’t let anything happen—”
“I know you’d never believe me… but whatever happens next… I think I might just deserve it.” She rests her head in her hands, tears running down her fingers. Her voice trembles. “Maybe I’m just not the darling you think I am.”

Okay, I’ve payed my dues. Y’all do not want to know how many snowballs I have.
My dear Donal,
I am writing this now as I promised years ago. You have heard many things about the battle of Clondalaough (Clon-da-lock) and the events surrounding it. Doubtless you have heard things about me and the other lads that made up the fighting force that came from Glancraige (Glan-crag). Many things happened there– things I wish to leave buried in the past. But they cannot be hidden any longer. I care not for what they say of me in the villages, nor if they call me false things. I know the truth and I can bare the scorn. But there is one whom I will not continue to allow them to revile and slander. When you read this letter, much that I reveal will be a shock to you. Many things that you believed or heard will turn out to be falsehoods. Some of what I have to say will doubtless hurt and anger you. But I warn you, do not act out of that wrath and pain, though it will be righteous anger. Instead, follow the example of the one whose name I will now clear– at least for you. Someday, I pray all of them will see the truth, but for now it is enough that you understand and know. Perhaps I should have told you sooner, but hiding the events that occurred was the only way I knew to keep you and your mother safe. You are fifteen now. It is time for you to hear the truth.
I was sitting in a tree one late afternoon, thirty-two years ago to the day, when I saw young Alistair O’Clery scrambled over the rocks at the top of the Glan Mountain. He paused and pushed a wave of dark-brown hair from his eyes.
“Alistair,” I called.
He looked up sharply, “Conner, is that you?”
“Aye lad, come up.”
He hurried to the tree and, jumping, caught hold of a limb and swung himself up. He was agile as a cat and he soon reached the top of the large tree and settled into the branches beside me. “What’re ye doin’ Conner?” he asked.
“Hiddin’” I replied.
“From whom?”
“Lorcan O’Byrne,” I answered glumly.
“Why?”
“You know why,” I grumbled. “It’s my fourteenth birthday.”
“So?” he asked.
“So, I’d rather not be killed today.”
“He’ll leave you alone today I think,” Alistair responded. “He lives all the way at the Chieftain’s home.” he was only saying it to cheer me up, and I knew it.
“That’s only a mile away,” I said. “Besides, Lorcan would come eighty miles if he could have the chance of making me miserable. Especially today.”
“You and I could beat him easy,” Alistair rejoined.
“Him maybe, but not him and his gang,” I retorted.
We sat in silence for a few moments, Alistair looking out across the hills and I brooding miserably on my fate. Lorcan O’Byrne was the only son of chief O’Byrne. He was sixteen-years-old, tall, broad shouldered, mean, and used to getting his way. He enjoyed tormenting people like me. Now why would Lorcan target me? Well, I am the son of the head of his father’s stables, and he thought he was better then all of the rest of us, and what better target could he have then a skinny lad who was small for his age, had hair redder then fire, a face splattered with freckles, (two very useful things for Lorcan’s teasing,) and who lived only a mile away. We all lived spread out up their in the crags of the Glan Mountains so I was the closest lad he could get his hands on– besides those of his gang. Of course, during an attack of our village by Reevers, we would all gather in the fortress. But attacks were very seldom, and there was no time for harassment when they did come.
I knew I would have to start for home soon and I knew I would have to walk through a very narrow path that went between the cliffs if I was to reach home. It was the perfect place for an ambush, and I was sure Lorcan would be waiting for me there.
At that moment, Alistair startled me out of my thoughts with the words, “If Lorcan tries to touch you, I’ll thrash him.”
“He’s twice your size!” I exclaimed, trying to stifle my laughter.
“Then it will be twice as hard,” Alistair replied calmly.
I looked at him, partly in amusement, and partly in admiration. Though he was one year younger then I, Alistair was always the one who would run headlong into danger. I, on the other hand, was more cautious, and I was normally the one to get him out of the peril he got himself into.
Alistair looked out at the sun. “It’s gettin’ late. Come on Conner.”
I sighed and slowly reached out for the branches. I decided I’d better get the thrashing over with. I hoped Lorcan would leave Alistair be, and that I would get home in one piece.
We scrambled down from the tree and started home. “Mum will have made honey cakes for you,” Alistair commented.
“And soup,” I added. “Fresh bannocks too, I hope.”
“When Da comes home you’ll have your birthday surprises,” Alistair grinned.
We continued talking and in this way we passed the time until we came to the narrow part of the trail. Here I paused, but Alistair marched straight on and I– unwilling to let him face Lorcan and the others alone– hurried to catch up.
We walked silently through the pass, our steps echoing off the high rock walls. “Why did I go out to play at the top of the crags today,” I muttered.
“Because you wanted to, and Mum said you could have the day to do as you liked,” Alistair responded.
We continued to the end of the pass, and my heart leapt. Perhaps we would escape after all! But at that moment, a tall lad stepped into our path. “Why, It’s the horse boy, and his wee brother,” he remarked mockingly.
“Good evenin’ Lorcan,” I replied cautiously.
“Happy birthday,” Lorcan said in a voice slick with disdain.
“Thank you,” I answered, as though I thought he was being sincere.
“Wont you stay and let us celebrate?” Lorcan asked, gestured at two tall lads who stepped out of the shadows.
“Na, I would love to, but we must be going,” I replied, firmly gripping Alistair’s arm to prevent him from doing something.
“Oh, how disappointing,” Lorcan said, his voice dripping with scorn. “Let me at least give you a gift then. It will be one you will remember for a long time.” Without further warning, Lorcan caught hold of my collar and slammed me against the rock wall.

December 12, 2024 at 11:22 am #191874@mineralizedwritings I love it!!
15 snowballs!? GIRLLLLLLL😭😭
how dare you
also, Eli is there, he was just with Jonathan and the other boys. Riker didn’t really say hello to everyone in the first place, plus that’s not going to be the full scene (if it even makes it into the book). Don’t worry, all of Riker’s kids are safe😘
December 12, 2024 at 11:36 am #191878Yeah, but now you get to throw thirty, and I get more Riker/Leon scenes!!! (Or Hans and Felix scenes,) and you get more written so I can read the book sooner!!! It’s a win win!
Oh phew. I was going to be devastated if something happened to Eli. I love that kid so much.
*slaps hands over my mouth* oh no, I may have just signed his death warrant.
lololol.
