I actually didn’t do the last contest, but I’ve been keeping up with this topic anyway. 😛 You picked a really interesting prompt… so I might just participate this time! We’ll see….

November 13, 2024 at 3:35 pm #189765Hi, Esther! It’s been a while since I’ve been active on KP, but I’ve recently returned to it! How are things going? I remember the last time we talked (in the summer) you said you had a lot of sports things going on in your family and some theatre things as well. How did the past months go?

November 13, 2024 at 4:02 pm #189766Hey!! I appreciate you reaching out. You’re so sweet! 🤗
Things are going pretty well right now! Volleyball made our schedule crazy over the past six months, so it’s nice now that it’s over and things have slowed down some. I’ve started working on some study rhythms for school to keep my grades up since I fell behind in some lessons with volleyball filling up our schedule. And I’ve finally started writing consistently again!! 🎉 Which has been really nice since my writing schedule got all out of wack.
So yeah, it’s been good! Just trying to prioritize my relationship with God while I’m balancing school, writing, friends, family, and extracurriculars.
What about you? <3

November 13, 2024 at 4:34 pm #189769Nice!
Well, I’m slowly getting back into a rhythm too. I’m starting to write consistently as well. I’m hoping to start working on a WIP. I’ve also started freelancing and am writing for an Amish magazine, which is very exciting! So far, I’ve had one story win 3rd place in their contest and get printed, and they recently accepted another Christmas I wrote. I’m planning on writing an article about siblings and sending that to them, and also some true written accounts of my life on an Amish dairy farm. I’m thinking they will enjoy reading about an English girl working/living on an Amish farm.
Other than writing, I’ve also gotten back into a rhythm of training Buddy. I’m really focusing on him again, and he’s learned a lot!
I’m also helping my family get the garden ready for spring, and I’m also studying and preparing for getting chickens in the spring as well. On top of that, I’m working on finishing designing my family’s 2024 photo book and working on projects in order to publish my father’s book in early spring next year. I also clean AFC’s (the ministry we live at) lodge every week and sometimes have online farm work to do.
I’m also working at getting to bed on time and waking up early so I can get all these things done! (And currently, I recovering from a pretty long sickness. It’s the winter cleanse.)
But, over all that, I’m trusting Jesus and learning to grow in faith in Him. That was a big theme this year for me: growing my faith. I had some really dark moments this past year, dealing with sin in my life, but His work in me is greater than evil and His is the victory.
So, yes! I’m pretty busy, but I love getting things done. (I’m a 100% choleric. We thrive on accomplishing things!!!) And, when I do get anxious about all the stuff I haven’t completed yet, Jesus is always there to point to me that He said, “Be anxious for nothing!” and “Trust in Me always” and “Acknowledge Me in everything you do” and “I am always with you, so you don’t have to fear”. Ahhhhh…yes, He is so good!
What are you currently writing?

November 14, 2024 at 6:14 pm #189830I have decided not to participate this time around. My belief is that death should not be taken lightly. I cannot write about death that might make others feel uncomfortable or offended. I know people who have dealt with people dying and have seen them dying. That is something that that person has to deal with the rest of their lives. I don’t want to cause more pain to them. I know Christ wouldn’t do something like this. As a Christian, I believe that I should think of what is good and lovely (Philippians 4:8) and to talk about death in that light would show that I am not a Christian. I do not want to condemn anyone who is participating in this, it is your decision to do this and being a part if this will not affect my view of you guys being Christians. But I have done enough things in my life that tell others that I’m not a Christian, I don’t need to add to the list. I don’t want to harm others and my own character.
Again, I am not condemning anyone, I’m just sharing my opinion, and anyone can agree or disagree with me, and it would not bother me.
I go by many names, Andrew, Andy, Mandrew, but you may call me... BATMAN!!!
November 14, 2024 at 6:19 pm #189831@raxforge @ellette-giselle I probably won’t do it either, but that’s just because I can’t think of anything that I could write for such a broad subject.
Where'd I get ya this time? The liver? The kidney? I'm runnin' outta places to put holes in ya.
November 14, 2024 at 7:23 pm #189836Oh, that’s an interesting perspective I’ve never heard before. So you wouldn’t write about death in any circumstance because it might offend people?
But I have done enough things in my life that tell others that I’m not a Christian, I don’t need to add to the list.
This comment above ^ Do you find it unlikable to talk/write about death?

November 14, 2024 at 8:59 pm #189843So you wouldn’t write about death in any circumstance because it might offend people?
Not necessarily, it is okay to write about death in some senses, but in this case, I can’t see anything good coming from writing about death right now. If I need to offend people, I will. But I don’t see a need.
Do you find it unlikable to talk/write about death?
It’s uncomfortable, but there are sometimes when you do have to talk about death. But if I don’t need to, I don’t want to.

November 14, 2024 at 9:16 pm #189845Now I’m even more curious. Sorry if you don’t want to answer. 😅 You said ‘need’ a lot, does that mean you would only talk about death if you need to, not at any other time? And what time in a story would you believe it is a necessary time?

Yes.

When a character does die. Characters die, there is no doubt about. Sometimes you need a character to die to improve another character’s ark. I’m just saying that death should not be taken lightly or should be a thought that continues to dwell in our minds constantly.

I agree👏

November 15, 2024 at 11:15 am #189869I’m not saying you should take death lightly. In fact, i dislike it when stories/books do. But i also don’t think it needs to be taken as dark and full of despair, because that is not a Christian worldview.
I don’t know where you got the idea that my prompt meant I wanted you to take death lightly. Sorry if there was some confusion.
However, if you were meaning that all you like to/can write is comedy and you would rather not about this, then that’s fine. I just don’t see where the confusion came from.
