@ellette-giselle THAT WAS AWESOME.
I have like zero records of my family history lol. My dad is trying to find some information on his family tree, but there isn’t much to go by. I guess his ancestors didn’t keep a lot of genealogical records.

November 11, 2024 at 11:40 am #189635That is awesome. I wonder if our ancestors fought with, or against each other… XD

Wait a minute.

Fork the GorkNovember 11, 2024 at 1:28 pm #189644I’m really mostly Welsh, and my great-grandfather was a coal-miner “down the pits.” My grandfather’s second cousin is a druid, and my grandfather is a retired Reformed Presbyterian minister.
That’s pretty cool. Especially the coal-miner!
Also one of my random ancestors founded Rhode Island. Not too proud of that one.
Wait…seriously? They founded Rhode Island? What’s your reason for not being proud of them?

November 11, 2024 at 1:37 pm #189645That was amazing!!!! Hm…I actually know of another Dunn person. Didn’t know it was Irish.
Oh, no. Thank you for writing such a long post about your ancestors. The info about Glendenning clan was so cool! Their motto is AMAZING!
So, the Irish is pretty far back there, but we’re closest related to Parkers and Crumlins. I don’t know hardly anything about them, but I do know about the Sutherlands!
The Sutherland motto is: Sans Peur. It’s French for “no fear”. They also have a war cry:
“Ceann na Drochaide Bige!” It means “The Head of the Little Bridge”.
It’s so awesome that your Scottish clan were covenanters. Sutherlands were mostly on the opposite side. Thankfully, though, there were some Sutherland covenanters.
Here’s a picture of the Sutherland crest. I’ll give some background to my clan as well! (Any other clan people are welcome to share about their clans!!! It’s fascinating learning about your ancestors!)

November 11, 2024 at 1:45 pm #189647So, there’s a story behind why there’s a bobcat on the crest. There’s a legend about the Sutherland clan that way back in the day, they didn’t have their own land.
They went to some other lord in that area because they saw a beautiful, bountiful piece of land which they wanted for their clan. To their surprise, the lord eagerly gave the land to them. The Sutherlands soon discovered why. The lord didn’t even want that land and no one else wanted it because it was infested with savage wild cats that didn’t blink an eye at killing humans. However, Sutherland’s motto is “no fear”! So, they went to war against the cats. It was tough, but they prevailed, and the bobcat became part of their crest in remembrance.
So, it is a legend, but I thought it was super cool when I first heard it. It would make an awesome book idea!
Another super cool thing is that the Sutherland clan is one of the few clans who still owns their castle to this day! Most of the other clan castles have been sold off to other people. However, the Dunrobin, our castle, is still proudly owned by the clan and the clan chief! You can actually go visit it in Scotland. It looks like a Cinderella castle.

The results are in!
Note: I’m listing these in no specific order to give you all my thoughts
Liberty: First of all, I love your style. I think I’ve read one other thing of yours before, but I don’t remember being blown away by the word choice like I was with the first few sentences of this story (I especially loved the phrase “night air kissing his face.”) So that’s just a little note I wanted to make. The story itself I find beautiful, and while you can tell it does belong to a bigger story, it still is contained within itself. You did very well in that aspect. It’s also really well explained for a short story. Even though I don’t know who the Guards or Ravagers are in great detail, I know what I need to without feeling like expo is being dumped on me. As far as not finishing it, I think it’s fine as it is.
Ellette: A masterfully crafted tale! I love this idea and I love this story, not only for the sake of the idea, but also the way you told it as well. Very well done. The story is self-contained, easy to understand, and touching. THe ending was so sad, but I loved the detail of the flower at the end.
Elishavet: I read your story later than I should have so it made no sense to me on the first read. I read it again this morning and I found it so touching, sweet, and sad. I’m so happy I read it through again.
Keilah: You are not disqualified! I personally liked your story, the only thing is, if the reader doesn’t know at least a little bit about Sniper or Medic, they’re going to be so confused. It does feel like a random scene rather than a short story. Personally like how we are shown that Sniper is willing to even possibly freeze to death to bring the team back together. I also loved when he woke up and was worried Medic had done something to him…again. That made me laugh. Mundy can be so funny.
Calyhuge: The character dynamic, lol. Newo is just plain cruel to poor Sara. I know a lot of people found it gross, personally, yeah it was a little, but I’m curious about Newo. Like, what dimension is he from? What is his dimension like? We know he has electric powers, how does his life on Earth work with that? And his team, what exactly do they do? Are they part of the government or mercenary’s or something? I’m left with a lot of questions.
Andrew: I’ve already told you this, but I’m gonna say it again, I LOVE YOUR PLOT TWIST! I was not expecting that ending. I also find it hilarious that Tim is looking for the story behind Gramp’s scar and Gramps is like “I’m gonna tell you a different story first!” And your writing has improved so much!
Alright the moment you’ve all been waiting for. The winner is… *drum roll*…Ellette!
CONGRATS!!!!!!! You are the first official winner of the Short Short Story Prompt War!
I’m also gonna name second and third place for funzies.
Second goes to Elishavet!
And Third to Liberty!
Congratulations you three!
oh, man choosing the winner was so hard. You’re stories were so close!
For the last three, Good job! I really enjoyed your stories too! I would give you guys rankings as well, but I’m not sure where they should go! They’re all three in some way funny, I personally like all three, like I don’t know how to choose. I almost want to put Andrew at fourth place, but he’s also my best friend so at this point I don’t know if that’s my bias talking or not, tbh.
If you really want rankings as well, I can think about it longer.
If you ever finish yours, I’d still like to see it! I now it’s too late for you to enter, but I’m very curious.
Also, are you feeling better?

Oh wait.

LOLOLOLOL.
I can’t wait, but it’s gonna be hard!!!
Okay. How long of a brake do y’all want before the next prompt? And does the prompt have to be just one word, or can it be a sentence?

You will love what you spend time with.
November 11, 2024 at 2:52 pm #189656I think you can go ahead and give the prompt whenever you want.
And I vote for one word. It makes things so much more interesting in my opinion.
