So I know we have bits of this in Writer Corner #3 and other threads, and if you want to see if other people will write with you, do that on the Writer Corner please. This thread is for telling people your story’s name, genre, and how far you’ve got, cause some of us( or maybe just me) didn’t actually sign up on the website and therefore cannot see your works and updates there. So this is justfor updates on your work, and you can even put little blurbs of your story if you want. So I’ll start with mine.
My book is a historical dystopian. So basically, we won World War II but after the Japanese surrendered on that boat, some unknown -to the people in the story, not to me of course- army swept in while we were all celbrating and off guard. They set a new government in place which is called the Fourth Rule. And that’s the title of my book, Fourth Rule. The MC is Gwen and her brother is Devin.
I should be at over 10,000 words but I was unable to write all of Saturday and most of Friday since I was in a town called Shipshewana and I could take my laptop cause it’s crashed. So I’m only at 8,500. Please tell me I’m not the only one behind. @hope told me about someone she knows that’s already at over 60,000 words! Bleh.
I have compiled a list of things you need for NaNoWriMo if you want to survive, not to mention actually finish.
– Cocoa for late nights
– Headphones and a playlist of Wingfeather Saga, Piano Guys, Beyond the Mask, How To Train Your Dragon and LOTR
– Quiet
– 5 maybe 6 hours of sleep every night
– A body that can take the grueling grind of this torture
– Helpful friends that don’t care if you’re behind
– And last but not least, CHOCOLATE! Any kind will do.So… @hope @Daeus @corissa-maiden-of-praise @adry-grace @kate-flournoy @Emma-Flournoy @gretald @winter-rose @sarah-h @bluejay @dragon-snapper (@Daeus, @kate-flournoy, fill in please?) What’s going on with your NANOWRIMO thingy-a-bob-a-doodle-doober-cocky-whatsa-jiggle-dingle-hoppin-gurgle-thing?

November 7, 2016 at 11:53 am #20521@anne-of-lothlorien Actually… I’m not doing NaNo this year. *hides from accusing glares* Sorry guys, it just didn’t work out. It almost never does in November, actually; I may have to do an unofficial NaNo a different month sometime. 😉
But I will be working on my college paper a lot Thanksgiving week; the topic I chose is The Antichrist, so it should be quite interesting. So I’ll be doing a good bit of writing this month, just not on my project of choice. 😛 😀 😉

November 7, 2016 at 12:12 pm #205348,500 words is nothing to be ashamed about. Keep it up! Even if you’re a little behind one day you may pump out 5,000 words and get ahead! (that’ s what usually happens to me 🙂 )
Let’s see an update of my NaNoing journey 2016. (Wahoo!)
My story is a historical fiction set in 1498. It’s to be an analogy of the verse “A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches…” I have two MCs named Lady Marian and Sir Fredric and another of my favorite characters are Remington and Chant.
I currently have 12,200 words which surprised me cause I went into this NaNoWriMo without high expectations not knowing how my schedule would work out. So far more time than I planned on 🙂
And here’s my personal list of required items for NaNo success.
James Howard Newton and Hans Zimmer soundtracks
Pumpkin Butter Toast and Berry Tea
Thinking ahead of the next scene when I’m suppose to be sleeping
Lots of popcorn (I mean LOTS of popcorn)
A cozy nook
Early mornings/Late nights
Supportive family
More popcorn

November 7, 2016 at 12:15 pm #20538@Anne-of-Lothlorien I’m not doing NaNo, ’cause I’m not exactly a writer. But have fun. 😀

November 7, 2016 at 12:29 pm #20543@corissa-maiden-of-praise Agreed. No NANOWRIMO I’ll probably be doing one next summer, and hey, maybe we could both do it so we’re not alone?

November 7, 2016 at 1:12 pm #20550@anne-of-lothlorien I’m 10,273 words into NaNo right now. It’s… coming. The biggest thing that helps me is breaking it into 500 word chucks, because I can write 500 words in 20-30 minutes. Then I’ll check email, KP, or do something else I need to get done before settling down for another 500 words. Also chocolate… if anyone has some dark chocolate they’d like to hand out?
Also yes…over 60,000 words. But that is insane, even for a writer. 8,500 is a good amount of words to have written in the first week. 😀
INTJ - Inhumane. No-feelings. Terrible. Judgment and doom on everyone.
November 7, 2016 at 1:18 pm #20552Here ya go @Hope —lots of dark chocolate. I commend you for liking it dark.

November 7, 2016 at 6:40 pm #20599@anne-of-lothlorien Don’t worry. You aren’t the only one behind. I have only gotten 1087 words written. I have had the busiest/craziest week all of times. I couldn’t write at all some days. So, you’re not alone. 🙂
November 7, 2016 at 8:16 pm #20622Yes, I bring my score up to 2464. What was the word score that I should have been by the end of the week? @anyone
November 8, 2016 at 4:46 am #20638@anne-of-lothlorien Wow, that novel sounds intriguing 🙂 Oh my goodness. 60,000 words…
I used NaNoWriMo as an excuse to actually start [and hopefully finish] my novel. I’ve rolled this portal fantasy idea around in my head for several years, actually writing a novel with 7 MCs … I realized it was horrible and put it on the shelf to use the idea later. Then I got this idea around the beginning of this year which I started several times but trashed each one. I finally started it with NaNoWriMo and am currently at 14,003 words.
8,500 is a great number, especially since you were gone for two days. Don’t be hard on yourself. Life is busy.
My novel is a portal fantasy that takes place in a land called Egea. An Elyph is a person given a Stone of Power (I’ll wait till the editing process to give them real names) that enables them to deliver the Egeans from oppressors. Here’s a blurb: It has been prophesied in Egea that no Elyph can work alone, but Naomi, who has waited five years to avenge her mother, is seriously starting to doubt that. The Elyph that turns up is useless and annoys her to the breaking point. But after one of her friends is kidnapped by her mother’s killer, the Queen, they are forced to work together to rescue him.
I hope that wasn’t confusing 😛
I’ve never done NaNo before, so I don’t know what would help me win, but so far this is my checklist:
-Piano Guys playlist, Epic World Music II epic music compilation, and httyd soundtrack
-late nights and early mornings
-extra brain power to finish school assignments
-prompts
-amazing friends who make me smile
-this forum 😀
-sweets
-lots of breaks
-Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack to make me feel invincible 😉
@corissa-maiden-of-praise Yeah, November is a hard month for this. Lots of school and studying for end-of-semester exams… -_- I just hope I can finish my novel in time. At least it’s not in December 😉Read to explore worlds, write to create them.
November 8, 2016 at 9:52 am #20645@bluejay Nice job! 2,464 is nothing to blink at.
On the NaNoWriMo page it suggest being at around 13,000 by today if you follow their schedule. The fact is that 50,000 words is a LOT of words. Just keep doing your best! NaNoWriMo is an awesome opportunity to write no matter what the word count ends up being.https://rolenahatfield.com/
November 9, 2016 at 3:24 am #207176,097 words total at the moment. I managed to write 3633 words today so I’m pretty please with that.
Thanks for the encouragement @rolena-hatfield 🙂November 9, 2016 at 9:38 am #20723@bluejay Whoa that’s a lot in one setting! 🙂 What’s your NaNo book about?

November 9, 2016 at 3:39 pm #20755@rolena-hatfield My story is about a ten year old German girl who is in England at the start of WWI.
November 9, 2016 at 8:58 pm #20810I’ve never actually tried to pull 50,000 words in a month before, but I’m not doing too bad so far. I’m at 24,000 words or something for two reasons: early mornings and previous typing training.
My story is…well, I don’t really know what genre to put it in. It’s not fantasy and it’s not historical fiction and it’s not science fiction because it feels more like fantasy/historical fiction… It’s set in a futuristic Earth that has been technologically set back to the Middle Ages, with only a few aspects of modern Earth remaining. So it feels like sci-fi in a way and like a Medieval fiction novel in another way.
This is a sequel to one of my previous novels, Prince of the Barbarians (which, by the way, if anyone wants to beta-read, I am looking for critiquers). You can find the first chapter of that story if you want at https://kingdompen.org/forums/topic/please-critique-2/
The premise of this story: A ambassador from Rakshadar arrives at the Castle of Traith one day to threaten war. Rakshadar’s King Andal suspects Traith of pirate attacks that have crippled Rakshadar’s trading system, and King Andal will have no negotiations except a personal visit from the king of Traith. With no other option, the king leaves his seventeen-year-old son, Destin, on the throne, and departs on a ship with his most trusted advisors. Two months later, Destin receives a ransom note: his father is being held hostage by the very pirates that have been attacking Rakshadar. King Andal believes that the king of Traith has refused his demands and declares war on Traith, leaving Destin to try to make peace, protect his kingdom, and save his father.
So that’s what’s going on.
And here’s my list of requirements for NaNo success:
-Early rising
-Time with Jesus, first thing (sets up the rest of the day nicely)
-Tea and blueberry bagels for breakfast
-Lots of water
-A nice, quiet area to work
-A sister to give me ideas and feedback 🙂
-An online community of Christian writers with whom I can talk about NaNo and not feel crazy!YA Fantasy Writer
