        Day 4: Battle Couple

Ship: SunWolf (gonna start using these ship names instead)

        MCs: Jocelyn, Grimm & Nyx

“Battle Couple” (A romance between to fighters, usually in fantasy or sci-fi)

        “Heads up!”

Grimm spun around, metal hitting metal as he blocked the sword that had been aimed for his shoulder. He let out a low growl as the long, claw-like weapons attached to his knuckles sliced at the assailant, ripping his clothes and knocking him backwards.

        He was lucky he dodged.

These guys just don’t know when to quit!” A voice hissed, agitation lacing every syllable. An outraged cry sounded right afterwards, following by the sounds of ripping fabric and hisses.

Grimm spotted a single Icari soldier, wrestling with the small fox kit who was now attached to his face, trying desperately to remove him.

“Get’em Nyxie!” A loud voice whooped.

A blur of color rushed past Grimm’s vision, reds and golds, followed by a striking emerald green.

Jocelyn grinned like a madwoman, laughing as she swung at the Icari soldiers who approached, having nothing but a large stick in her possession.

Grimm huffed, quickly taking out one of the winged men before he sliced the blonde from behind. “Watch yourself, Lyn!”

She smiled, throwing her head back. “Ah, I’m glad to know you care, Grimmy.” She winked, shoving her stick in a woman soldier’s gut, sending her spiraling backwards.

“You filth!” One of the soldiers cried, flying down from above. Lyn’s eyes snatched upward and she flung her makeshift weapon, only for the male soldier to grab it, lifting the blonde off the ground.

Lyn!” Nyx shrieked. “Let her go freak!” The kit growled, leaping at the soldier’s wings, but he was quickly batted away, by another, slammed into a tree nearby.

“Nyx!” Jocelyn cried. She glared at the one holding her. “Oh…you’re gonna regret that,” she said, delivering a sharp kick up to the soldier’s knees. He let out a groan, but still held firm. The soldier threw Lyn’s stick to the ground with a thud. He gripped her hair with a strong hand, yanking her head backwards. “Foolish girl! You and your people will never escape us!”

Grimm’s eyes narrowed, the weapons laced to his knuckles twitching as his fingers moved. “Release her!” He yelled, fury rising.

He leapt, human no longer, wolf teeth bared. He made contact with one of the soldier’s wings, bringing him low. A cry of pain sounded as Grimm continued the fight.

Lyn hit the ground hard, gasping. She got to her knees, watching the fight between Grimm and the final soldier.

Grimm bit into the man’s neck, drawing blood, but the soldier refused to give up, jabbing Grimm’s wolf form in the side with his spear.

“Grimm!” Lyn cried. She stood, picking up a large rock and, without hesitation, bashed the soldier over the head with it.

With all of the soldiers unconscious or otherwise incapacitated, Jocelyn and Grimm paused, breaths deep and weary.

Lyn dropped her stone with a loud thud, eyes wide. “Grimm, your bleeding!” She cried.

Grimm growled, wolf form shifting back to human. He groaned, eyes squeezing shut in pain. He shook his head, hand on the wound on his torso. “M’fine.”

“No, you’re not.” Lyn knelt down, glaring. “You’re hurt and-“ She made a small noise, eyes scanning the area. “Nyx! Oh my gosh! Nyx!”

I’m fine. Thanks for asking…” Nyx huffed, making his way over to the two from a nearby tree. He was slightly limping, and his fur was ragged, but otherwise he seemed okay.

Lyn smiled, thankful to see him. She turned back to Grimm, smile fading. “Grimm, we need to get you help.”

“Just need some bandages. That’s all.”

“Grimm Beauwulf, I demand you be checked out.”

“By who?” He raised a brow. “The entire Icari army is hunting us, along with the Dryads. Where exactly are we going to go?”

Lyn pouted. She sighed. “Fine…I’ll just have to take care of you myself then!” She crossed her arms, sighing.

Grimm huffed, gently placing a hand on the ground, preparing to stand. “Said m’fine.” He stood shakily, only to immediately fall over onto Lyn’s shoulder. She let out a small cry, and even Nyx looked concerned.

“Grimm! See?!” The young man’s eyes dimmed slightly. Lyn shook her head, smiling a bit as she moved a piece of hair out of his eyes. “Let’s see if we can find somewhere to care for him until we find the others, huh Nyx?”

Nyx sighed, tails swaying behind him. “Dumb wolf. Going and getting himself injured. Like we don’t have better things to do.

“Oh hush,” Lyn smiled, placing Grimm’s arm over her shoulder. She gazed at the young man’s face, smiling. “You’ll be alright Grimm. I’ll make sure of it.”

Ooh! These will be helpful for my series’ sequel series. Lol I have a couple that won’t date until the sequel series so I’m going to use these prompts for that. I don’t have any inspiration for the current series so I’m going to start on the sequel using the prompts.

                      Day 5: Heartbeat

                      MCs: Felix & Adinah

Moonlight streamed through the partially curtained window, brilliant silver. A reminder that life continued on as normal, even as war raged, as guns fired, as men fought and died for their country, for the things they believed in, whether or not it was right.

So much death. So much destruction.

He saw it every day in the trenches, and even though he was home…he couldn’t unsee it.

There was still a war. There were still men dying. And for what? For heroism? For territory? For pride? What was this war even for?

Quiet footsteps clicked against the polished wooden floor, and Felix turned from where he was sitting on the couch closest to the window.

Hair tied back at the nape of her neck, a small blue bundle in her arms, Adinah smiled faintly, tiredly. “It’s late, darling. What are you still doing up?”

                      “Can’t sleep.”

Adinah gently laid Leo in the crib in the living room. He stirred but didn’t wake. “You can’t forget any of it, can you?”

He clenched his fists. She shouldn’t have to know. He wanted her to be happy, calm, unafraid. He was too unwilling to let her carry his problems.

“You’ve seen so much death, so much destruction,” Adinah removed her shoes and  slowly sank down onto the couch, “darling, I can’t even imagine what you’ve seen.”

Felix fingered the wedding ring on his hand. He couldn’t tell her. Wouldn’t. He didn’t want to burden her. “I-I don’t want to burden you.”

“Felix, darling, when it comes to your problems, none of them are a burden to me. We’re one, aren’t we? Your problems are mine, and my problems are yours. It’s a part of the unity of marriage.”

Felix’s fists clenched in his lap.

She had Leo to take care of. She already fretted when he was gone, he knew she did. She was already scared for him, and if he told her what really went on in the trenches…she’d be paralyzed with fear and with worry.

“I’ve seen so many of my fellow soldiers, countrymen, comrades, brothers…so many of them have died, Adinah…and all for nothing. Their parents, their siblings, their wives, their children all mourn…death has destroyed their families too,” Felix firmly shook his head, “and I don’t want that. I wish I could just leave, but I can’t. I can’t leave my brethren behind to fight, and I can’t quit anyways, my enlistment doesn’t let me. But I want to. I don’t want to keep fighting…I don’t want to lose anyone else.”

Adinah’s fingers caressed through the blonde hair on his head, gently massaging, musing up his hair. “Darling, don’t worry…I and Leo are not going anywhere.”

Felix slowly turned to face her, tears brimming his bright blue eyes. “…I’ve lost so many people in life, in this war…Adinah, how can I not be afraid of losing the two people I love most?”

Adinah’s arms slowly wrapped around him, pulling him close, pulling him down onto the couch with her. “Listen, Felix…darling, I’m not going anywhere.”

He gently pressed his head against her chest.

The thud of her heart sounded, echoed, in his ear. Quiet, soft, gentle…a reminder that she was there, she was real.

Felix’s arms slowly wrapped around his wife, his head still laid on her chest, listening to her heartbeat, a gentle reminder to his aching, breaking soul.

His beloved wife wasn’t going anywhere. She was right here, with him.

Felix tipped up his head and kissed his wife, deeply, passionately.

And their hearts thudded together in tune.

Day 6: First Sight (I.E. Love At First Sight, etc)

                        MCs: Riker & Iris

                        1933

                        Germany

He used his hand to shield his eyes from the blaring sunlight.

At least he had quickly found work, albeit temporary work. He heard footsteps, and Riker turned. He smiled faintly and gave a small wave. “Mr. Abler!”

The dark-haired man smiled and slowly shook his head, walking over and giving Riker’s hand a quick, firm shake. “Call me Jeremiah, lad.”

He’d never before dared to call one of his elders by their first name…his Mama had taught him better manners than that.

But he’d do as Mr. Abler wished. “Yessir.”

Jeremiah smiled and patted his shoulder. “Good lad. Now, this labor isn’t easy, but it is rewarding. I’ll be paying you as much as I usually pay Leonard. But when he comes back…”

Riker nodded. “Yessir, I know, I’ll have to leave.”

Jeremiah nodded. “I wish it wasn’t so. You seem like a good, strapping young man who’s not afraid of hard work. And since Leonard is recovering from illness, you’re a Godsend.”

Riker merely nodded. He wasn’t used to compliments, nor did he ever really accept them. He just…wasn’t good enough for compliments. He knew that.

“For today, I’d suggest looking around the town, figure out where everything is, get your bearings. Work starts tomorrow at six.”

“Yessir, I’ll be there right on time.”

Jeremiah laughed, nodded, and smiled. “I know you will, Riker.” He turned and walked away.

Riker took in a deep breath, taking in the air of a small, forest-surrounded town, a town far away from home…far away from his father.

                        “Just a little further…ack, no, wait…”

Riker turned to see a young woman, brown hair stretching down the length of her back, almost down to her middle back, on her tiptoes, stretching to try to get a tree, seated on top of a tall ladder, yet still couldn’t reach the fruit she was looking for.

She turned, and her green eyes met Riker’s dark blue.

Her eyes sparkled, her lips formed in a small frown, her hair glowed in the mid-afternoon sun.

                        And Riker couldn’t speak.

                        “I haven’t seen you before.”

Riker swallowed spit that had risen in his throat. “Uhm…uh, I’m new. I see you’re reaching for some fruit…do you need help with that?”

He walked over in case she did.

The young woman slowly shook her head. “I think I’ve almost got it.” She turned back around, reached, and stumbled, falling backwards.

Riker quickly wrapped an arm around her, stopping her from falling. He gently set her back on the ladder.

She turned and faced him, a bright, white smile contrasting with her red, full lips. “Maybe I do need some help. Here, may you help me get down the ladder?” She extended a hand out to him.

Riker blinked several times. Wait, what on earth was he doing? He shook his head and gently took her hand. Mistake. Now he couldn’t speak.

He carefully helped her down the ladder.

She stepped onto even ground and smoothed down the skirt of her purple dress. “Thank you, sir. I’m Iris, and you are?”

He forced himself to speak. “Uhm, uh, Riker. And it was a pleasure to help you, ma’am, Iris.”

She smiled gently at his nervousness…and there was no judgement in her eyes. She pointed up at the tree. “Would you mind grabbing a couple apples for me?”

                        “Y-yes ma’am.”

Riker climbed the ladder and grabbed a few apples, dropping them into the basket the young woman, Iris, handed him.

He placed several in the basket, handed the basket back to her, and climbed down the ladder.

“Thank you, Riker. I wish I could reach the apples better, but,” Iris sighed; smiled, “I’m just too short. I need a tall young man like you to help me. God have mercy, but he decided to create a short woman out of me. So, thank you.”

“You-You’re welcome. It…it was the least I could do.”

Iris smiled, holding the basket on one hip. “Such a chivalrous knight. I guess you’re not from around her, are you?” She tilted her head and smiled.

Made her even more beautiful than she already was.

“N-no ma’am. I came here looking for work…found a temporary job. I-I’ll be staying here for many months.”

“Oh, good,” Iris smiled, “because this princess may just need a chivalrous knight from time to time.”

                        “I…uh…”

She waved. “Nice to meet you Riker,” she turned around; dropped a wink over her shoulder as she walked away, “I hope to see you around.”

                        Riker watched her go.

She was playful, funny, beautiful…and maybe most surprising of all, she hadn’t judged him, not one bit.

But, no, was it even possible for someone, especially a woman, to love him?

He’d been told he was impossible to love.

                        But could it be false?

Riker smiled softly, still watching Iris go.

Maybe it was false, maybe Riker could be loved…and maybe he had just found his true love.
