Soooo…I wrote something for the Headache/Migraine prompt, a scene from my 5th fanfic in my 5-fanfic-series. đ
Poor Madelene…đ
Headache/Migraine prompt
Madelene bounced Grace in her arms as she screamed and cried. Sheâd already tried feeding GraceâŠchanging her diaperâŠbut nothing would make her stop.
Charlotte tugged on Madeleneâs jeans. âMommyâŠMommyâŠhungryâŠâ
âJust a minute, babyâŠMama is trying to get Grace to-â
âMAMA! Mason broke my toy train!â Branson yelled, running into the living room, Mason right on his heels.
âI didnât mean it!â
âMason, please apologize to your brother for breaking his train, and boys, please-â
âMommyâŠI hungry!â Charlotte screamed.
âI know, I know-â
Charlotte laid on the floor and began pounding the living room carpet with her hands and feet, in full tantrum mode, screaming at the top of her lungs.
Madeleneâs already throbbing head ached even more.
âCharlotte, you know thatâs not how you get what you-Branson, what are you doing!?â
Branson giggled, standing on the arm of one of the couches. âWatch, Mama, I can jump-Mason, stop it!!!â Branson screamed, shoving at his twin, who was laughing and trying to push him off the couch.
âBoys, thatâs enough! You know to act better than-â
Charlotte let out an ear-piercing scream, making Grace cry louder, and making Madeleneâs head hurt so much more than it already was.
Mason and Branson began wrestling.
Mason suddenly howled. âMama, he bit me!â
âBranson-!â
âI HUNGRY!â
She was about to go insane.
Why did they all have to start screaming and acting crazy at once!? Couldnât they do it one at a time!?
Grace cried louder. Madelene quickly grabbed a blanket off the couch and wrapped the six-month-old in it, humming and trying to get her to quiet down. She turned her attention back to the boys. âBranson, apologize this instant for biting your brother. You know youâre not supposed to-â
âIâm hungry, Mommy! IâM HUNGRY!â
âCould you all just stop!?â Madelene cried, not super loud though.
None of the kids listened though.
Grace couldnât help itâŠshe was a babyâŠbut the other three? They knew better than thisâŠor at least she thought they did.
âMAMA, Mason hit me!â
âBOYS-!âCharlotte let out another scream.
Madeleneâs head pounded so much harder. Her headache was so badâŠand the kids wouldnât stop screaming.
âCould you all just calm down!? Mama is having a very hard day today!â
Branson kicked Mason off the couch.
Mason howled.
âBranson, apologize-!â
Mason grabbed Bransonâs arm and pulled him onto the floor with him. Wrestling resumed.
Grace screamed, almost right in Madeleneâs ear. Madeleneâs ear rang, and she didnât hear much of anythingâŠexcept screamingâŠfor a few minutes.
âWhat is going on?â
Madelene turned to see Peggy and Steve in the living room.
âOh, I didnât know you two were coming over! Itâs nothing, just-â
Charlotte screamed again.
Peggyâs eyebrows furrowed together. âAre you sure youâre alright?â
âOh, Iâm fine, just-âGrace screamed, and Madelene grimaced.
A fierce, piercing pain in her headâŠand it felt completely awful.
âDo you need help, Madelene?â
âPeggy, you and Steve are guests. I wouldnât expect-Branson, Mason, could you two stop!? We have guests over!â
âAre you sure youâre okay?â
Charlotte and Grace both screamed, and Branson and Mason didnât stop fighting, kicking, and biting each other.
Tears fueled by her throbbing head, crazy day, her disorganized and dirty house, her screaming kids that were stressing her out, all of the busyness of lifeâŠfell. Madeleneâs vision blurred with tears. ââŠNo, Iâm not okay.â
âItâs okay, girl, girlâŠdonât cry, MadeleneâŠitâs going to be okay,â Peggy took Grace from Madeleneâs arms and wrapped her free arm around Madelene, âand weâll get this worked out and let you have the rest of the day to rest, I promise, itâs going to be okay. Steve, can youâŠ?â
Steve nodded. He pried the boys apart and gently, but firmly, pulled them out of the room and out the back door to get fresh air.
âHere, MadeleneâŠsit down on the couchâŠthere we go.â
Madelene merely sat where her friend directed, her head still throbbing. She lost track of timeâŠbut slowly, she realized that both Charlotte and Grace had quieted down.
She faced Peggy. âWhat did youâŠ?â
âTurns out Grace needed some milk, and Charlotte calmed down once she realized that screaming was getting her nowhere. Grace is in her crib, and Charlotte is at the table with a small snackâŠthe boys are too.â
Madelene let out a deep breath. âThanks, PeggyâŠmeans a lot.â
Peggy smiled and squeezed her hand. âOf course,â Peggy raised an eyebrow, âbut are there other things going on, Madelene? I know kids are stressfulâŠbut you seemed even more stressed out than would be normal.â
Madelene shrugged. âI donât knowâŠthereâs just so much going on. I watch the kidsâŠgo to workâŠBucky works too and goes to therapyâŠand thereâs justâŠso much going on, PeggyâŠso much.â
âIs there something else going on? Something moreâŠserious? I know youâre also having another childâŠis something wrong?â
âIt doesnât have to do with the baby, PeggyâŠnoâŠit-itâs not thatâŠâ Madelene bit her lip.
Peggy was a friend of hersâŠbut she didnât know if she should burden her with her own problems.
âThen what is it?â
âMe and Bucky are having trouble in our marriage.â
She hadnât meant to blurt that out.
Peggy blinked a couple times. ââŠI see. I can see how all of this would be straining your marriageâŠhave you two thought of counseling?â
âCanât afford it.â
âWhen was the last time you two went on a date?â
Madelene bit her lip and gave herself a minute to think.
When was their last date?
âI think I just got my answer. Okay, listenâŠitâs Friday. How about me and Steve take the kids for the weekend so you and Bucky can have a weekend to yourselves?â
âAll of them? But you two have your own kids, andâŠI meanâŠâ
âWe donât mind. Iâll ask Steve about it just to make sure, but Iâm sure he wonât mind. You and Bucky need a weekend to yourselvesâŠand it may help take some of the strain off your marriage. Itâll be healthy for both of you to take a break, I promise.â
âI donât knowâŠâ
âCome on,â Peggy squeezed her hand again and gave her a reassuring, friendly smile, âit will be good for both of you. The kids can have some fun at our house.â
âYou havenât even checked with Steve.â
âLetâs do that right now then, shall we?â Peggy winked and stood. âCome on, Madelene.â
Madelene smiled faintly and followed her friend into the kitchen.
âMason, look! I have a monkey!â
Mason giggled and grabbed his own Animal Cracker. âStevieâŠlook, I got a tiger! Itâs gonna eat you!â
Steve pulled away from Mason. âWait! I donât want to get eatenâŠâ
Mason, Branson, and even Charlotte all giggled.
Steve chuckled, and his gaze rose, his eyes meeting his wifeâs. âIs something wrong?â
Peggy smiled. âNot at all. I was just wondering; would it be good with you if we had the kids come stay with us for the weekend so Madelene and Bucky could have a break?â
Steve shrugged. âGood with me. Ryoâs going to be at his friendâs house for the weekendâŠbut we can bring the kids over.â
âGreat,â Peggy grinned and faced Madelene, âso itâs a plan. Iâll help you pack their bags.â
Madelene faced Steve. âAre you two sure? I meanâŠthey can be crazy sometimesâŠand are you sure you want all of them over the weekend?â
Steve nodded. âWhy not? We already have our two kidsâŠbesides, I think you and Bucky need a weekend to relax. Six kids all seven or younger for the whole weekendâŠwhat could be more fun?â
Peggy laughed and nodded. âOf course. Weâll have lots of fun.â
Madelene slowly nodded. âOkayâŠif youâre sure. Thank you two, so much.â
Peggy smiled and grabbed Madeleneâs hands, giving them a quick squeeze. âAnytime. Now come on, how about we go get those bags packed?â
Madelene smiled and nodded. âLetâs.â

I just popped in and read your piece. Oh my goodness, you are such an amazing writer! You could clearly see the image you wrote about, felt how overwhelmed (and relived) Madelene was. Had great description and lifelike characters! Please tag me if you post more!
