SOOO…I wrote something for Day 17!!!!
My first Reuben scene in a long time…the baby đđđ
So…without further ado…………..here we gooooooo đâš
(oh, and btw, everyone, Frau is German for Mrs., Vati is German for Father, and Mutti is German for motherđ)
TRIGGER WARNING: SLIGHT MENTIONS OF ABUSE
His stomach felt awful. It felt like it was doing somersaults, as if it was actually trying to make him sick.
Reuben tried to sit up, but a wave of nausea hit him, and he laid his head back down. A quiet groan escaped his lips.
He hated being sick.
But then again, who enjoyed being sick?
A quiet knock sounded on the door, and it slowly opened. Frau Adelmann walked into the room with a small plate and cup. She smiled gently. âI brought you something that will be easy on your stomach. Do you want me to set it beside the bed, or on your lap?â
âI-I can go on ahead and take itâŠbut I feel sick when I sit up.â
âSit up slower, dearâŠthere you goâŠslowâŠâ
Reuben slowly sat up, and though he still felt nauseous, it was better than before.
Frau Adelmann set the plate in his lap and handed him the cup. âGinger ale and crackersâŠit took me a long time to find them, but I did find some for you. It should help with your stomachache.â
âThank you.â Reuben whispered, taking the first small bite of a cracker.
âYouâre welcome, dear. Now, I should get downstairs to make supper. Let me know if that helps you at all, dearâŠIâll be back to check on you in an hour or so.â
Reuben nodded, and the housekeeper left the room, softly closing the door behind her.
Reuben took a sip of the ginger ale and also ate another cracker. So far, it was the only thing that didnât make his stomach hurt.
He sat eating and drinking for several minutes when the door opened again, a conversation continuing.
ââŠNo better than our own family.â
Jakob, unmistakably Jakob.
Jakob entered the room, trailed by Leo, Joshua, and even Wolfgang, all finally back home from required work.
Wolfgang faced Reuben with a smile, his gaze on the food Reuben had. âHi Reuben! Oh, did you get some crackers?â
Reuben nodded. âFrau Adelmann gave them to me for my stomachache.â
Wolfgang nodded and got onto his own bed, reaching for the book he was reading, his usual after-work routine.
Leo smiled gently. âIâm glad you got something to help your stomachâŠâ
Reuben nodded. âUh huhâŠum, Leo, whatâs that gash on your cheek?â
Leo touched his cheek, flinched, and pulled his fingers away. âItâs nothingâŠgot hurt at work.â
âBeaten at work, you mean.â Joshua said softly, a usual note of concern in his tone.
âObviously. The Nazis donât appreciate the work we doâŠbut itâs not like itâs any different than our actual family.â Jakob snapped.
Joshua sighed. âJakobâŠâ
âOne day, theyâll payâŠIâll make sure they do.â
âGuysâŠdonât fightâŠâ Reuben whispered. He hated it when his brothers fought.
He glanced over at his younger brother, but Wolfgang didnât pay any mind, too immersed in his book to pay attention.
Reuben turned his gaze back to Joshua and Jakob.
âRevenge and hatred arenât the answer, Jakob.â
âThen what is, Joshua!? They beat us for even the smallest infractions, and sometimes beat us for no reason at all! They deserve to die for what theyâve done.â
âJakobâŠâ
âDonât try to convince me Iâm wrong. Theyâre the ones that are wrong, Joshua!â
Reuben groaned and covered his ears with his hands. He couldnât listen to this.
He saw Leo glance at him, concern in his eyes, and Leo turned to Joshua and Jakob. ââŠYou two might want to quiet downâŠyouâre upsetting Reuben.â
âWe donât mean to, ReubenâŠsorryâŠâ Joshua said, loud enough for Reuben to hear.
Reuben slowly uncovered his ears, his stomach hurting again. âAre you two done fightingâŠ?â
Jakob slowly nodded, letting out a deep breath. âYesâŠbut it doesnât change my stance. They deserve whatever punishment they getâŠ.all of them.â
âThat was one passionate argument,â Annalise stepped into the room, trailed by her younger sister, âand you do realize that we heard all of that, right?â
Reuben took a small bite out of a cracker.
Leo crossed his arms, rolled his eyes, and leaned back against the wall. âAre you two making a habit of eavesdropping on us?â
âNoâŠwe just came to tell you that supper will be ready within thirty minutes or so.â Steffi replied, with a small smile.
Annalise smirked. âBut hearing that argument was a bonus.â
Jakobâs fists clenched at his sides, but before he could speak, Joshua did. âAnnalise, Steffi, what do you two want?â
Annalise and Steffi shared a look. Steffi smiled. âWellâŠIâm sure Mutti and Vati wouldnât like to hear about that argumentâŠâ
Annalise smirked. âButâŠwe donât have to tell them, if youâll help us.â
âIsnât that bribery?â Wolfgang suddenly asked, his head hanging upside down over the side of his bed, book still in hand.
Steffi shrugged. âMaybeâŠbut we want to go somewhere with some of our friends, and Mutti and Vati wonât let usâŠthey said it might be dangerous. But you could help us convince them to let us goâŠand if you doâŠwe wonât tell them about the argument.â
âAnd if you donât help us,â Annalise chuckled, âwell, we can change the story however we wantâŠand get everyone blamed.â
It was briberyâŠone hundred percent.
Reuben shivered, though, at the idea of Annalise and Steffi getting all of them blamedâŠeven though only Jakob and Joshua had the argument.
Leo glanced around the room, his gaze falling on each of his younger brothers for at least a few seconds, before facing his half-sisters again. ââŠWeâll help you.â

@EVERYONE!!! SO!!
I HAVE BEEN THINKING!!!
since we are all busyâŠbut we still really wanna do these promptsâŠ.
And theyâre for fun anywayâŠ.letâs just take the pressure off ourselves and not make them monthly things!!
Weâll just keep the list weâre currently on until we all agree to move onto a new one. Also, instead of going off of Days, we can just say the prompts are numbered and choose whichever ones we want to write at any given time (so when inspiration strikes u can TAKE IT BY THE HORNS XD)
what do yâall think?
Could someone tag some peeps for me? I donât feel like it XD
