SOOO…I wrote something for Day 17!!!!
My first Reuben scene in a long time…the baby ???
So…without further ado…………..here we gooooooo ?✨
(oh, and btw, everyone, Frau is German for Mrs., Vati is German for Father, and Mutti is German for mother?)
TRIGGER WARNING: SLIGHT MENTIONS OF ABUSE
His stomach felt awful. It felt like it was doing somersaults, as if it was actually trying to make him sick.
Reuben tried to sit up, but a wave of nausea hit him, and he laid his head back down. A quiet groan escaped his lips.
He hated being sick.
But then again, who enjoyed being sick?
A quiet knock sounded on the door, and it slowly opened. Frau Adelmann walked into the room with a small plate and cup. She smiled gently. “I brought you something that will be easy on your stomach. Do you want me to set it beside the bed, or on your lap?”
“I-I can go on ahead and take it…but I feel sick when I sit up.”
“Sit up slower, dear…there you go…slow…”
Reuben slowly sat up, and though he still felt nauseous, it was better than before.
Frau Adelmann set the plate in his lap and handed him the cup. “Ginger ale and crackers…it took me a long time to find them, but I did find some for you. It should help with your stomachache.”
“Thank you.” Reuben whispered, taking the first small bite of a cracker.
“You’re welcome, dear. Now, I should get downstairs to make supper. Let me know if that helps you at all, dear…I’ll be back to check on you in an hour or so.”
Reuben nodded, and the housekeeper left the room, softly closing the door behind her.
Reuben took a sip of the ginger ale and also ate another cracker. So far, it was the only thing that didn’t make his stomach hurt.
He sat eating and drinking for several minutes when the door opened again, a conversation continuing.
“…No better than our own family.”
Jakob, unmistakably Jakob.
Jakob entered the room, trailed by Leo, Joshua, and even Wolfgang, all finally back home from required work.
Wolfgang faced Reuben with a smile, his gaze on the food Reuben had. “Hi Reuben! Oh, did you get some crackers?”
Reuben nodded. “Frau Adelmann gave them to me for my stomachache.”
Wolfgang nodded and got onto his own bed, reaching for the book he was reading, his usual after-work routine.
Leo smiled gently. “I’m glad you got something to help your stomach…”
Reuben nodded. “Uh huh…um, Leo, what’s that gash on your cheek?”
Leo touched his cheek, flinched, and pulled his fingers away. “It’s nothing…got hurt at work.”
“Beaten at work, you mean.” Joshua said softly, a usual note of concern in his tone.
“Obviously. The Nazis don’t appreciate the work we do…but it’s not like it’s any different than our actual family.” Jakob snapped.
Joshua sighed. “Jakob…”
“One day, they’ll pay…I’ll make sure they do.”
“Guys…don’t fight…” Reuben whispered. He hated it when his brothers fought.
He glanced over at his younger brother, but Wolfgang didn’t pay any mind, too immersed in his book to pay attention.
Reuben turned his gaze back to Joshua and Jakob.
“Revenge and hatred aren’t the answer, Jakob.”
“Then what is, Joshua!? They beat us for even the smallest infractions, and sometimes beat us for no reason at all! They deserve to die for what they’ve done.”
“Jakob…”
“Don’t try to convince me I’m wrong. They’re the ones that are wrong, Joshua!”
Reuben groaned and covered his ears with his hands. He couldn’t listen to this.
He saw Leo glance at him, concern in his eyes, and Leo turned to Joshua and Jakob. “…You two might want to quiet down…you’re upsetting Reuben.”
“We don’t mean to, Reuben…sorry…” Joshua said, loud enough for Reuben to hear.
Reuben slowly uncovered his ears, his stomach hurting again. “Are you two done fighting…?”
Jakob slowly nodded, letting out a deep breath. “Yes…but it doesn’t change my stance. They deserve whatever punishment they get….all of them.”
“That was one passionate argument,” Annalise stepped into the room, trailed by her younger sister, “and you do realize that we heard all of that, right?”
Reuben took a small bite out of a cracker.
Leo crossed his arms, rolled his eyes, and leaned back against the wall. “Are you two making a habit of eavesdropping on us?”
“No…we just came to tell you that supper will be ready within thirty minutes or so.” Steffi replied, with a small smile.
Annalise smirked. “But hearing that argument was a bonus.”
Jakob’s fists clenched at his sides, but before he could speak, Joshua did. “Annalise, Steffi, what do you two want?”
Annalise and Steffi shared a look. Steffi smiled. “Well…I’m sure Mutti and Vati wouldn’t like to hear about that argument…”
Annalise smirked. “But…we don’t have to tell them, if you’ll help us.”
“Isn’t that bribery?” Wolfgang suddenly asked, his head hanging upside down over the side of his bed, book still in hand.
Steffi shrugged. “Maybe…but we want to go somewhere with some of our friends, and Mutti and Vati won’t let us…they said it might be dangerous. But you could help us convince them to let us go…and if you do…we won’t tell them about the argument.”
“And if you don’t help us,” Annalise chuckled, “well, we can change the story however we want…and get everyone blamed.”
It was bribery…one hundred percent.
Reuben shivered, though, at the idea of Annalise and Steffi getting all of them blamed…even though only Jakob and Joshua had the argument.
Leo glanced around the room, his gaze falling on each of his younger brothers for at least a few seconds, before facing his half-sisters again. “…We’ll help you.”

@EVERYONE!!! SO!!
I HAVE BEEN THINKING!!!
since we are all busy…but we still really wanna do these prompts….
And they’re for fun anyway….let’s just take the pressure off ourselves and not make them monthly things!!
We’ll just keep the list we’re currently on until we all agree to move onto a new one. Also, instead of going off of Days, we can just say the prompts are numbered and choose whichever ones we want to write at any given time (so when inspiration strikes u can TAKE IT BY THE HORNS XD)
what do y’all think?
Could someone tag some peeps for me? I don’t feel like it XD
