Main character of Die Hard
(which IS a Christmas movie!)

I mean, I don’t get the “it’s not Christmasy” thing, If it occurs during Christmas and has themes of Christmas, it is a Christmas movie. I’ve never seen it, but I just looked it up, and if you’re gonna call it “not a Christmas movie” then you might say the same for Home Alone or The Sound of Music, which are also popular Christmas movies but aren’t specifically about Christmas.
Is it “a good movie to watch during Christmas”? Up to interpretation. But that doesn’t change it being a movie having to do with Christmas.
also “now I have a machine gun. Ho ho ho” sounds like a line out of one of my stories.

December 26, 2024 at 5:11 pm #192971This definitely applies to ninety percent of story creators, and you can’t convince me otherwise

December 26, 2024 at 5:19 pm #192972I might post a bunch of stuff on here soon to cope with tearing down my plot board and reconfiguring the whole thing. They say humor is the best coping mechanism.

tbh I’ve never made characters completely based off people I know. I’ll let them make self inserts and put them in my stories, but it’s always them in charge of who it’s gonna be.

December 30, 2024 at 10:04 am #193179That reminds me of a really cool, sweet mom at church (one of my favorite people) who approached me with a YA fantasy book. A friend of hers, whom I didn’t know, had written it and wanted some feedback from teenage girls.
I and my friend read it, and we coincidentally had one favorite character that stood out. She was a really sweet older sister to the main character and she’s one of my top female side characters.
I messaged the author… Turns out, the character was secretly based off the woman who gave me the book in the first place. 🤣

I do that sometime, but it’s mostly with personality, though sometimes I keep physical character descriptions that fit.

December 30, 2024 at 10:22 am #193192How close are your character personalities to the real person? I can’t say I make a one-for-one imitation of the person. Recently I was inspired by a friend’s hyper deliberateness in friendships and used that as a trait, but I used barely anything else.

December 30, 2024 at 10:27 am #193195The closest I ever did was one of my older brother and sister (not really, but I call them that) I wrote a romance and I used some of the things I saw in their relationship and I also used their physical descriptions and a few personality traits. It was there enough that Kirsten recognized it and was over the moon, but when she told Nathan he just blinked and was like, “what? we’re in the book? where?” lol.
But no one else noticed I had done it. *shrug*

My friend said she put me in a book once. I think I was some kind of elf character–I wanna say my character equivalent’s name was Cassiopeia. She had a really tall brother, whose name was Corvus.
Sadly I haven’t gotten to talk to this friend lately and I think she put that story off to the side anyway.

December 31, 2024 at 1:50 pm #193322me hearing a term in a youtube video and then looking it up:
the search: what the heck does blorbo mean
google: “Blorbo” is internet slang that refers to a beloved fictional character from a TV show or other media, essentially meaning a character you have a strong personal attachment to and consider your “favorite” within that universe; it’s often used to express a high level of fandom for a specific character.
literally me when I read it:
Crosshair, Snake, and Sniper will COMPLETELY and UTTERLY WIPE ME FROM EXISTENCE if I ever call them that. And literally all the others are probably on the fence about it.
Nope nope nope.
You, my friends of pixel and code instead of flesh and blood, have been spared from the torturous life you would’ve had if you were under the care of some other autistic obsessors.
