Hello all!
This is a topic about KP roleplaying. Yes, KP has roleplays! If you would like to join a roleplay you know nothing about, or if you’ve never done this before, you should read this post.
Roleplaying is when you write a back-and-forth story with other members. These stories are just for fun. They aren’t official projects, but they offer an interactive playground where you can write about your characters and explore new worlds. These are alternative universes, or “AUs.” You can practice writing your characters this way!
For example, the Fantasy School AU RP is a high school setting with magical inhabitants. Your characters can talk with other writer’s characters, study in classes together, and cause general mischief! (See below for a list of our active roleplays and what they are about.)
Here is an example of two people RPing back and forth:
Marcel
The fight was not going to end anytime soon. Marcel pushed his way through the crowd of people. One of the boys in the middle had a bloody nose. The other was too short to be visible until the crowd got out of the way. They were shouting at each other.
Marcel shoved past the inner circle of onlookers and crossed his arms. “Alright. Break it up.”
Sebastian
Sebastian, the much shorter kid, squared his blood-covered fists and grinned. “Try and make me. He deserved it.”
Marcel
“What did he do?”
Sebastian
The boy gestured wildly towards his enemy. “He bumped into me and knocked me over, and had the audacity to insinuate that I’m a midget!”
Marcel
Marcel sighed. “Let me guess. He accidentally bumped into you and said, ‘sorry, didn’t see you there.'”
You take turns making up what happens. It’s pretty simple.
Some Tips
– Introduce your character first and explain who they are! Then let their personality show through your writing. Experiment with their voice. Get creative with it.
– Remember you are building a dynamic with other writers in the group. Think about what sort of dynamics you all like to write. Maybe you have a silly troublemaker character and another writer has a motherly character. Pair them together! They might become close friends as the story progresses.
– Remember details about other writers’ characters and have fun learning about them. This is just something I like to do, but it makes everything more fun, in my opinion. :]
– Keep track of the setting and plot. Usually these roleplays have specific buildings, rooms, aesthetics, and enemies. You don’t want to miss important details!
– Be aware of what the whole group is doing, because sometimes the plot shifts and no one wants to lose track of what’s happening. It’s okay, this isn’t usually hard. ;] Ask other writers for clarification if you don’t know what’s happening.
– Every roleplay has a vibe. Introduce characters that will fit the vibe. For example, a young male protagonist from a serious story might fit into the Prince Academy Roleplay. A silly comedic character from a cartoon you’re writing? Maybe not. (It depends. Ask people if the character will fit!)
– If you want to make a major addition to a story’s plot, consider asking if other people want to do it. This is a collaborative activity.
– Check over your writing before you post it to make sure it makes sense. I’ve accidentally posted confusing stuff before, and it’s hard to edit things afterwards.
– Have fun!! Roleplays are fun. Don’t sweat it. Usually it’s goofy and not at all high-stakes. We’re all here to have a good time.

Fantasy School AU RP
This roleplay is a staple of the forum and pretty much everyone has caused a fight or explosion in it. :-p
Destina Tasin is a high school in the middle of a busy city. Instead of only accepting normal human students, Destina Tasin takes in students from other fantastical worlds. (There’s some cross-dimensional travel involved but it’s not important.) The school has a reputation for letting rules slide, and the school council is pretty messed up. The Headmistress herself is a horrible authority figure and isn’t present to enforce rules. Some of the teachers are nice, though, and do their best to handle the chaos.
Students are offered dorm rooms and free time to explore the city. Most of the time, they are in classes, studying, or chatting together in the halls. It’s a relaxed setting where you, the writer, get to make up your character’s schedule. There are so many students that you have plenty of people to talk to.
Fights are common. Watch out for the meaner students and protect your friends. You might get into an explosion, fight secret assassins, or join superheroes-in-training. The possibilities are endless.
No limit to the amount of characters you can add!
You can make up pretty much anything you want, but if you want to use preestablished lore, we have a Google doc with a list of characters and locations. This story is loose and crazy.

The All-Boys Royal Academy AU RP
(This is an introduction we already posted a while ago.)
With the many glowing windows of a bustling manor, and the softly veined pillars and floors of a palace, the Royal Boys Academy seems to want nothing. Its double doors are carved with fantastic creatures, sometimes touched by the vines that grow from either side of the great entrance. As carriages arrive with new royals, the wind catches the forest encircling the school grounds, and the branches claw against the bronze spires.
The Royal Boys Academy has been a study haven for young royals since its establishment, two hundred years ago. The castle holds secrets about the students themselves, and many young princes discover keys to their individual stories, hidden in the secret passageways of the castle.
Headmaster Howell is a shapeshifter, a king who can disguise himself amongst the princes and give them wise counsel. He can even transform to look like your friend. The only way to identify him is to look for a ring on his hand – a ring with a multicolored, deep-set jewel. Beware the headmaster if you choose mischief. He’s everywhere…
Young royals arrive all the time. They have to be registered. After that, the boy takes on the title of “Prince” regardless of actual status, and they are presented with their personal living quarters. The residential area sprawls across the second level, with halls connecting them all and gold-adorned name plates on the doors. A boy’s room is personalized before their arrival.
The school owns an enormous section of land, with gardens, stables, and a separate gymnasium building in the back.
The academy is a home away from home. The princes don’t necessarily go to class together. Instead, each prince learns at his own pace, and studies what is important for his station in life. It’s a very comfortable place. For example, if a prince needs to know more about his country’s culture and systems, he might ask for a tutor or simply pick up books at the library and do the work for himself. (There are classes and clubs for some things, though.) Many boys learn fencing, combat, magic, or personal interests. There are no tests. The boys are simply encouraged to grow, and if they choose to lounge around, no one stops them.
Some of these countries are on the brink of war or reimagining. This is where princes will decide what kind of king they will be.
Important notes:
I (@whalekeeper) am in charge, sort of. People ask me for lore details because I try to keep everything consistent. Please ask me if you need someone to explain things. (I promise I’m not bossy.)
You can take any male character of yours and reimagine him as a vaguely medieval/pre-modern-day prince. He doesn’t have to actually be a prince in your real project – instead, you can change him to fit this setting.
This world has consistent lore that you will become somewhat aware of, such as setting and side characters. There is a medium-sized cast of characters who have friendships, enemies, and secrets. You don’t have to learn anything before joining! Just know that your prince will have to navigate pre-existing dynamics. Hey, that’s royal politics, am I right? 😂

Labyrinth RP
In the middle of an endless, still, thick fog, was a place that sat in between worlds: a labyrinth, thick with twisted vines and thorny hedges, and inhabited by creatures only heard of in fairy tales. Trolls stomped along its passages, pixies played in its gardens, and things unknown peered out from under leaves and shadows.
One of these fairy creatures, a small impish thing, perched on a large stone near the entrance. His beady eyes squinted intently out into the fog as he scratched absentmindedly at his abnormally large nose. After a few seconds, the fog before him started to churn, and several figures began to emerge. The imp ceased his scratching and grinned triumphantly, revealing a row of crooked and yellowed teeth. As the strangers from the fog approached, he stood up on his rock, and declared in loud, nasally voice,
“Welcome, travelers, to the labyrinth! Prepare for adventure, magic, mystery, and a chance to earn your way back home!”
Your character is suddenly transported from their home, as if pulled away by a powerful mist, and dropped in front of a labyrinth. They have no way of returning home unless they traverse its ever changing paths. Your character must find a purple amethyst orb within the labyrinth which, if touched, will transport them back home.
The labyrinth is a chaotic, almost living entity, and it enjoys confusing you. It is a monstrous challenge. Even if you survive the horrific beasts, magical attacks, and shifting paths, you might go insane along the journey.
There are creatures living in the labyrinth, and these creatures are invented by @loopylin and sometimes myself for the most part. But you can come up with things too. We love new creations that match the macabre tone of the world.
Important notes:
@loopylin is in ultimately in charge. This is her world and she knows how the magic works. Ask her if you want to add anything. Her word is final. (Oh, Loopy is suuuppper bossy. Unlike me. I’m an angel. ;))(I’m kidding. She’s a nice boss.)
There is a pretty small cast of characters in the labyrinth right now! Many characters have vanished or turned to stone. Characters travel in small groups. Place your character in a group and protect each other! This roleplay focuses heavily on the setting, so be ready to visualize the layout and describe it.

Final thing.
You can make up your own roleplay! World-build something and give it a shot. You can also revive old, inactive ones on the General Discussions forum. There are so many cool genres to try.
