This is a short story. A poetic short tale. The happenings of a character. Many times, as a writer, we learn to embrace our characters. To love them. This is the other side of reality. There are just some characters we just put under the bus. Maybe we started to write their story but upon realizing all the work, we crumpled up the paper and threw it in the trash. This is a voice. One singular voice crying out to her friends because she dreams of a bigger life.
Are fictitious characters real? No.
Is it fun to write them though? Absolutely!
And that is what this is…a tale of a character….a girl who refuses to give up when all else seems lost.
Do your characters hate you for their unfortunate ‘mishaps’? This is a topic where your character is free to express their feelings to the world…that way, maybe we authors will be a little less harsh lol. Feel free to write a poem, a short story, or an interview with the character even and post it below!! I can’t wait to see what y’all come up with XD

June 4, 2023 at 12:10 pm #146192I will always be here
A poetic short tale—————————————
Here I am
The author put me under the pen
Trapped me in a room of fantasy
Trapped me in these wordsInk, everywhere
Scratch marks of original drafts
But, even in the void, I was there
A small character in an empty abyssPlaced in an hourglass
Watching minutes slowly passThe author didn’t care
No, not at allShe just muddled word after word
Spinning a tale of endless tragediesPlacing me in the light
To be loved one second
Only then to be thrown against a wall of insecurity
She threw me in a cavernStuck
AloneHere I cry
These tears being just untold stories
I want to be free
To never fall
To become aliveAnd to be loved for real
But, alas, this too is vain
For the author will never allow suchShe will forever spin me in a cauldron of mishaps
A series of misadventuresWhere feelings wrestle feelings
And fear is forever haunting meSadness taunting me
And heartache causing these tears to brimI want out
Out of this spinning worldLike a bird
Free of this cageTo be held
To dance like no-one is watching
And to be loved like I’ve never been hurt
To sing like no-one’s is listeningDarkness will never drive out darkness
Only light can do thatHate can never drive out hate
Love can only do thatI soar
And I fallI break apart
And I breatheAnd mend
And healBecause I know
This dream will never be trueBut I know something no-one else does
I know
That hope
Is stronger than hateAnd love
Is bonded with mercySo take a step
Onto the wavesLet go, my child
And may Christ only be the light that shines through us
Even though we face tormentBecause I hope
Just hopeThat unlike some
You will feel me
And show me lovefollow the one with fire in His eyes

June 4, 2023 at 3:45 pm #146214@livingwoodchronicles wow that was cool!!
I don’t know…..my charries would have a LOT to say about me, and not all of it is nice so…..Hmm, maybe I’ll interview one of the tamer ones, the ones who WON’T bite my head off.
"When in doubt, eat cheese crackers."-me to my charries who don't even know about cheese crackers
June 4, 2023 at 5:44 pm #146228That is so…heartbreaking! I don’t even want to think about all the poor characters that I once created but will never write again.
Just because the stories are so lame….
or I’ve forgotten what was going to happen next.
I have a whole three-ringed binder FULL of old stories I probably won’t ever finish.
All those poor, trapped characters… *sob*

Such a good idea, though! 🙂 Thanks for the inspiration!
He must increase, but I must decrease.

I rolled the log over and underneath was a tiny little stick and I was like, "That log had a child
