Ok, Iāll try to clear up the confusion then!
For not understanding, I donāt understand the whole set up of a contemporary non-denominational church. There is no structure whatsoever, and it confuses me greatly. XD
As for structure within the service, this is going to depend largely upon the church to be honest. Ours will normally follow the same pattern of announcements, we have a time of worship through song, then the sermon, then weāll end with another song and sometimes Communion. This can change depending on the Sunday, but thatās the normal structure we follow. From what I understand, other denominations tend to follow more closely to a liturgy, right? Especially within Catholic churches and denominations similar to Catholic?
I donāt understand why they donāt dress up eitherā¦or why they donāt have Communion very oftenā¦or why they use grape juice instead of wineā¦*confusion*
Again, it can depend upon the church, but I do understand what you mean by not dressing up. Most people in our church dress up to some extent, but itās not weird to see someone wearing a t-shirt or a sweatshirt, or even shorts to be honest. I wouldnāt wear shorts to a church service just because thatās not what Iām used to, but I personally have nothing against it. I think a lot of non-denominational churches have a lot of first-generation Christians who didnāt grow up in church, so they donāt have an idea of dressing up. At least thatās my interpretation of it. š¤·š»āāļø
As for Communion, this can differ greatly between churches. Ours does it about every other week, I know another church who does it every week, and Iām sure some others do it less often. We use grape juice becauseā¦.I think itās kinda weird to us to use wine tbh. š

Yes, you do need prayer, and God can reveal things to you. But God will NEVER say something to you that contradicts the Bible. If the Bible doesnāt clearly say it, we canāt be clear on whether its correct on it.
And people can be wrong too. You need people to help you understand the Bible. If a person is teaching you Scripture and they add to the Bible or contradict it, or take it out of context, then you shouldnāt allow them to teach you Scripture. š the Bible is very clear about being extremely careful about who you allow to teach you.
Thatās why you need to read your Bible and know what it says, or else we could all just add random things and believe so many lies! We have a responsibility to fact check EVERYTHING against the Bible, even our pastors and teachers, who arenāt perfect and can make mistakes.
I semi-agree and semi-disagree. The part about trusting people, I agree, people could just straight up lie to you! But at the same time, you cannot go off JUST the Bible. You should also go off teachings from the saints. Plus, the Bible requires two things if you want to read it. Context, and an open mind. You need history and context to even understand HALF, if not ALL of the Bible.
And plus you need an open mind! You cannot take every single word literally, because think about it, originally the Bible was passed on through word of mouth, not written down! So there could be many things that are not exactly how they were originally. Like you said, you can’t just trust everything somebody tells you.
Well, if you donāt think Mary is worth more, than why is Mary the only saint that āguidesā you? Maybe Iām not understanding correctly, and I promise Iām not attacking you, Iām just trying to understand a little more.
Like, the Bible says ALL believers are saints. Iām a saint, you are a saint, every believer in Jesus is a saint. So whatās to stop me from praying to my great grandma who passed away and asking her for guidance? Where do you draw the line? How do you decide who you can pray to and who you canāt? The whole thing just confuses me.
Also, I donāt think one personās prayer is worth less than the power of a hundred others. Iām not sure Iāll ever fully understand how God works and specificallyĀ whyĀ itās good to ask others to pray for you. God can hear me just as well as he can hear ten people praying the same thingā¦I know there are reasons, but somehow Iām just confused about it.
Okay, you are right, we all are saints. Kinda. What the Catholic Church teaches is that a saint is someone who has made it to heaven. We don’t know if we are going to heaven or not.
And Mary is NOT the only saint that guides us! There are HUNDREDS, maybe even THOUSANDS, of saints that you can pray to for guidance! There are so many saints people pray to I could learn about a new saint everyday for the rest of my life! Here is the list of saints I usually pray to on a daily basis: Mary the mother of God, St. Jude, St. Philip Neri, St. Peter, St. Carlos, St. Gabriel, St. Michael, St. John Baptist de la Salle, St. Mary Magdalen, and MANY more!
And I feel like there is no line you can cross. But the reason we don’t pray to your great grandma is because we are not 100% certain she is in heaven! That is why it takes (usually) hundreds of years to be canonized! Like St. John Baptist de la Salle died in 1719. But he wasn’t canonized until 1900! That means they thought about considering a saint for 181 years!!!!
It never says he prays to Tabitha. He prayed to God FOR her, and she was healed.

January 30, 2025 at 9:05 am #196411@the_lost-journal sorry I’m a little late to the party.
How big is your church?
50ish people, we don’t really keep count.
What is one thing you disagree/donāt understand with a different denomination?
Where do you want to start? lol
What is your opinion on Mary?
She is a woman, a woman who gave birth to Jesus, or Jesus in the flesh. Which does not make her the Mother of God, and if one where to say she was, it would be implying that Mary is over God, and she is not.
What is one thing you donāt understand about your own denomination?
I don’t really know… there are a lot of stuff about Christianity as a whole that it is hard to grasp.
Do you have (or did you ever have) Ā a friend that has (or had) a negative impact on your faith?
Yes, when I went to public school I had ‘friends’ who would lie and swear, so I left that I did homeschooling, and I’m not going back.
Where do you usually go for a place to pray to God? (It could be your favorite place, either inside or outside your own home.)
No, not really, just in my head usually.
If your friend ever has a question about God, how do you answer?
Depends on the question.
Do you believe that God created everything, or that evolution had a hand.
God made everything and everyone, end of story, close the book, put it back on the shelf.
What are your plains to grow in the faith?
…I think you meant ‘plans’, lol. I’m planning to go to the Word of Life Island as a part of the crew. It will help me more in learning how to serve God and other Christians.
And finally, how do you feel on calling Christianity, a faith?
Yes, it is very much a faith. Hebrews 11 for reference.

#AnduthForever (Lord Willing)January 30, 2025 at 9:17 am #196413First off, there is originally 73 booksā¦
Sorry I could help but notice this. The 7 catholic books that were added to the bible were added in the 16th century, whereas the original 66 books were put together in the 2nd century. Just a side note

#AnduthForever (Lord Willing)January 30, 2025 at 9:21 am #196414here is a verse from the Bible:Ā Acts 9:36-41: Peter prays to Tabitha,Ā a disciple who had died.
He didn’t pray to Tabitha; he prayed to God to raise her from the dead. I mean he did say, “Tabitha, arise.” but that was not praying to her.

#AnduthForever (Lord Willing)January 30, 2025 at 9:29 am #196415Please don’t take these as me criticizing you. As a fellow Christian, it is my job to help you come to a better understanding of God and his word, that is what God has called all of us to do.

So Jesus isn’t God? Weird, because I swore that in the Bible it says multiple time that Jesus IS God…? And if Mary gave birth to Jesus, she gave birth to God, who was ALL man AND ALL God! And no, it would not imply that she is over Jesus, because she is just all man, (as in mankind) and Jesus is all man and all God, which would mean he is over her.
… Sorry I seam kinda rude, I am still annoyed at Rae…
He didnāt pray to Tabitha; he prayed to God to raise her from the dead. I mean he did say, āTabitha, arise.ā but that was not praying to her.
Yeah, I’m stupid š
God made everything and everyone, end of story, close the book, put it back on the shelf.
Yup!
ā¦I think you meant āplansā, lol. Iām planning to go to the Word of Life Island as a part of the crew. It will help me more in learning how to serve God and other Christians.
Yeah, thanks. And cool!

January 30, 2025 at 10:45 am #196428ā¦ Sorry I seam kinda rude, I am still annoyed at Raeā¦
I forgive you, but please don’t let it happen again, there is no reason to blow up at someone you can’t see. And please let that go with her, she never meant to harm you. Holding grudges will not help you as a person, or even a follower of Christ. Forgive as Christ forgives.
So Jesus isnāt God?
I never said that. Mary gave to Jesus yes, but not God. It’s a little hard to explain, but basically Mary is Jesus’s earthly mother, and not spiritual in any way. Do I believe she should be celebrated, 100%, she literally gave birth to the savior of the world. But she gave birth to Jesus as a man and God filled in the rest of the 100% man and 100% God.
it would not imply that she is over Jesus
So I have a series of questions that might help understand why it would imply that. The 5th commandment, “Honnor your father and mother”, should be followed at all times, correct?
Yeah, Iām stupid š
Don’t say that! You just didn’t fully understand, don’t beat yourself up for that. There is still much that I have to learn from the scripture, and you’re actually helping me understand the scriptures more, so thank you.

#AnduthForever (Lord Willing)January 30, 2025 at 12:27 pm #196450You should also go off teachings from the saints.
The Bible is the WORD OF GOD!!!!! How could anything people say be superior to that?
I understand that God gives people special revelations too, but they won’t contradict the Bible. As Christians we need to respect the Bible as the ultimate authority.
Plus, the Bible requires two things if you want to read it. Context, and an open mind. You need history and context to even understand HALF, if not ALL of the Bible.
Context and HistoryĀ isĀ all in the Bible. Reading other passages helps you understand other passages.
And plus you need an open mind! You cannot take every single word literally, because think about it, originally the Bible was passed on through word of mouth, not written down! So there could be many things that are not exactly how they were originally.
I could be wrong, but the Bible actually was written down. They took the Bible from scrolls they found, so a good chunkĀ of itĀ wasĀ written down.
And a lot of it was letters as well.
If we believe that the Bible is God’s Sovereign Word, we believe God had a hand in how it was translated. The Bible is all we have to go off of and it’s the number one way God communicates it to us.
