I used to be pretty combative. I’ve learned to be nice, after much trial and error. And belonging to a class where each of the eight students, my besties, are from eight different kinds of churches. They gave me a lot of character development. XD

Hehehehehehehe
If Emotional Side were here, she would probably laugh, but again, she’s too busy being pathetic.
Emotional sides are not pathetic, my dear KPer. They are the path to discovering ourselves. 😁
Edit: A path, not the only path. *Throws wisdom around like glitter*

My logical side still treats it like a baby.

January 28, 2025 at 8:10 pm #196325January 29, 2025 at 12:15 am #196331@the_lost-journal Yay, more questions!
How big is your church? (if you go to church.)
Probably around 60 people total. I just counted 58, but I probably missed a few people. I’d guess on a given Sunday we usually have 45-50 or so.
What is one thing you disagree/don’t understand with a different denomination?
I’m probably going to start an argument with this one, but I’m for baptizing infants, and I don’t believe a rebaptism is anything more than getting wet. I also don’t believe in the Rapture. Now that I’ve disagreed with most other denominations and offended everybody…*moves on* XD
So that’s disagreement. For not understanding, I don’t understand the whole set up of a contemporary non-denominational church. There is no structure whatsoever, and it confuses me greatly. XD
What is your opinion on Mary?
She is the Mother of God, and should be celebrated, however I don’t believe in praying to her.
What is one thing you don’t understand about your own denomination?
The hierarchy of our diocese. The Bishop is in charge of everyone, the priests are over the deacons, who are over the acolytes…but who’s the archbishop? What’s he do? What about the archdeacon?
Do you have (or did you ever have) a friend that has (or had) a negative impact on your faith?
I don’t think so. Most of the people I know are Christians or at least attend church, and the one girl I know who isn’t I met pretty recently, and I know what I believe enough that it didn’t affect my faith.
Where do you usually go for a place to pray to God? (It could be your favorite place, either inside or outside your own home.)
I don’t have a specific spot. We have family prayer in our living room in the mornings, and the family splits into two groups to do prayers at night, which is usually still the living room. When I feel the need to pray about something some other time, I most often just do it whenever.
If your friend ever has a question about God, how do you answer?
I’m not sure I’ve been in this situation, but I would try to answer truthfully to the best of my ability. If I had trouble answering, I would send said friend to my dad.
Do you believe that God created everything, or that evolution had a hand.
I believe in microevolution, but not macroevolution. God formed the universe the way Genesis describes, but change within species did occur. I believe that one species of dog, wolves, could become multiple species of dog, but I do not believe that a dog could become a cat, or a monkey a human. There is a lot of scientific evidence showing that the one finch Darwin mentioned, could become a slightly different species of finch, but there is no evidence showing that it could become an eagle.
What are your plains to grow in the faith?
Congrats on confirmation! I was confirmed almost two years ago, and I think one of my siblings will be this year. I intend to begin reading my Bible more, and at some point soon, I’m going to read a lot of C. S. Lewis’s books. I’ve only read a few. I will also try to not be so late for prayers in the morning.
Why am I up at midnight then? *sigh*I’m trying to put my faith more in God this year than in other people. And finally, how do you feel on calling Christianity a religion?
I think it is correct.

January 29, 2025 at 12:19 am #196332But the one thing that does frustrate me sometimes is using colored lights and fog and other “special effects”- like what good purpose does that serve? It usually ends up being more distracting to me.
You aren’t the only one. Our very traditional church had another pastor visit as a parishioner on his day off. He said he was tired of rock concert Sundays. My dad wonders when church became “VBS for grown-ups.”

BUT
My dad wonders when church became “VBS for grown-ups.”
😂 That is basically my church… I do sometimes go to traditional churches… thinking bout it now is giving ME a headache 😂

Same…

Eh, at least you put it better than 70% of the people on here… 🤷♂️

I guess that is just a big family thing then! 🤣 I thought everyone had to run away from their army of siblings to find a quit place to not get disturbed… just me then 😂😂

I somewhat agree. Like how there is no way you cannot deny that bacteria evolves to be resistant to medicine, because it does. Or how you cannot deny artificial selection excises… because that is how we have different horse and dog breeds. BUT there is no way a fish grew legs, climbed out of the ocean, turned into a lizard, that turned into a monkey… then that monkey slowly turned into a human. THAT IS IMPOSSIBLE.
Congrats on confirmation!
🥹… thank you!!!!! No one has said that to me yet!!!
I think it is correct.
😂 weren’t you the one in the debate?
"Hate has caused a lot of problems in this world. but it hasn't solved one yet."
January 29, 2025 at 12:09 pm #196373Lolll, true. This Protestant’s probably going to stay out of it. XD
Mostly what I don’t understand with different denominations is how people can read their Bibles and still believe what they believe.
If I answered, I’d become the enemy of a lot of people.
Now I’m curious…If you do answer, I promise not to burn you at the stake! XD
And belonging to a class where each of the eight students, my besties, are from eight different kinds of churches.
That’s cool. My class is made up of nondenominationals and maybe a Baptist? I’m that one weird Anglican whom no one understands. XD
I believe in one source of authority – God’s Holy Word.
I believe that the Bible, (66 books), is the only infallible inspired source of authority. However, I believe that the other Catholic books, the Apocrypha, are good sources for instruction, and that the writings of early church fathers also have some authority, for example, the creeds, and the oldest surviving church order, called the Didache.
Same…
I don’t understand why they don’t dress up either…or why they don’t have Communion very often…or why they use grape juice instead of wine…*confusion*
BUT there is no way a fish grew legs, climbed out of the ocean,
😂 weren’t you the one in the debate?
Indeed.

January 29, 2025 at 2:59 pm #196378I disagree with this a little. You cannot go off JUST the Bible, you need prayer too. And plus others can teach you a lot about God. So no, I do not “just” believe in the Bible.
Well…
Yes, you do need prayer, and God can reveal things to you. But God will NEVER say something to you that contradicts the Bible. If the Bible doesn’t clearly say it, we can’t be clear on whether its correct on it.
And people can be wrong too. You need people to help you understand the Bible. If a person is teaching you Scripture and they add to the Bible or contradict it, or take it out of context, then you shouldn’t allow them to teach you Scripture. 😅 the Bible is very clear about being extremely careful about who you allow to teach you.
That’s why you need to read your Bible and know what it says, or else we could all just add random things and believe so many lies! We have a responsibility to fact check EVERYTHING against the Bible, even our pastors and teachers, who aren’t perfect and can make mistakes.
… I never said anyone was worth more… did I? Marry simply just guides us. And why do you ask others to pray for you or someone else? Couldn’t you just prayer to him your self? Not ask others for you? Just a thought…
Well, if you don’t think Mary is worth more, than why is Mary the only saint that “guides” you? Maybe I’m not understanding correctly, and I promise I’m not attacking you, I’m just trying to understand a little more.
Like, the Bible says ALL believers are saints. I’m a saint, you are a saint, every believer in Jesus is a saint. So what’s to stop me from praying to my great grandma who passed away and asking her for guidance? Where do you draw the line? How do you decide who you can pray to and who you can’t? The whole thing just confuses me.
Also, I don’t think one person’s prayer is worth less than the power of a hundred others. I’m not sure I’ll ever fully understand how God works and specifically why it’s good to ask others to pray for you. God can hear me just as well as he can hear ten people praying the same thing…I know there are reasons, but somehow I’m just confused about it.
Peter prays to Tabitha, a disciple who had died
It never says he prays to Tabitha. He prayed to God FOR her, and she was healed.
Saints and angels present prayers to God in heaven.
I think this is saying that God is the one in heaven, and the saints (which include me and you) and angels pray to God who is in heaven. It also doesn’t say that the dead people can even hear our prayers or pray for us.
I don’t think I’m going to convince you otherwise, and you’re not going to convince me otherwise, so I think I’m going to step away from this now before people start arguing lol. Just wanted to say my side of things!!! <3

January 29, 2025 at 3:46 pm #196379I fully believe there isn’t a single human being on this earth who worships Mary.
I mean, like Stephie said, there could be, but I’m not accusing anyone particular of this. I’ve just heard of people treating her that way and wanted to express my opinion on that. : )

Are y’all talking about non-denominational churches? I’d be willing to answer your questions about them, although I can’t guarantee that my answers would be true for every non-denom church.

Indeed. For context, here is what I said in my first post:

January 29, 2025 at 3:54 pm #196381Ok, cool!
What do you mean by structure? Like within the local, individual churches or broadly, like all of them?

January 29, 2025 at 3:57 pm #196382I meant within the service.
