January 9, 2025 at 1:11 pm #193992It’s sad I couldn’t join this time. Does anyone know when the next one is? Also, is it only for a certain age group?

January 9, 2025 at 2:30 pm #193994I think you can still join!! We’ve had people introduce themselves half way through the challenge, at least, so you could try and sign up. It is for ages 13-25, I believe.

January 9, 2025 at 2:41 pm #193995@whalekeeper I’ll be too busy to write the rest of this week, but thanks! Visiting my brother’s family tomorrow and Saturday. But I have six more years left to join. :]

January 12, 2025 at 10:43 am #194231It’s been great! Yesterday, I didn’t get any progress on my WIP because I had to write an essay… :/ But it’s halfway done now, so hopefully on Monday I’ll be able to get more time in!
I think my total for the challenge has been about 4,000 words on my WIP already. Just over 1k a day, which is a lot more than I normally write.

January 14, 2025 at 10:46 pm #194521*cough, cough* Here’s my “blog post”. *cough, cough*
So, this was my first CWW. It was splendid. I wrote over 4,000 words, took oodles of notes, and spent unhealthy amounts of time on the computer. While the competition isn’t over yet, I have some thoughts to share.
As those who watched the videos know, that last one was mostly about YWW. It is without a doubt a wonderful resource, and I would love to join someday. However, I was thinking…
One large thing stressed this week was Community. I understand why. I joined Kingdom Pen as a young teen who saw novel writing as her oldest hobby come to life again. I wanted to learn how to impact those who read my scribbles. I had one problem. I had no lasting motivation to do anything. Of course, my dreams were so big they scared me. (still do, actually) I was happy to pretend they were a long way away. No rush. No pressure. No progress.
Long before joining KP, I had written stories as a tiny girl doodling picture books about fairies during church. I still have many of those short stories from my single digit years. I set out to write my first novel when I was around thirteen, and although I got lost in the third chapter, I was happy to think I was doing something important. I had new story ideas that made more sense, and a children’s church curriculum that I got to see taught every Sunday for one summer. I would probably have kept up my writing. Maybe I would have turned it over to God and seen amazing things come out of it. My parents supported it, after all.
But I doubt it. I have problems finishing things.
Now, Kingdom Pen is not a heavily active place. We don’t have daily lessons and bestselling authors helping us along the way. What we have instead is a solid community of wordsmiths and daydreamers. We have articles with incredible depth, and role plays that can be complete nonsense. We have a place for young writers to find their voice. I stretch my wings a little more with every short story or roleplay. This community, you all challenged me. We traded critiques and new insights. KP was always there when I had something to share or needed inspiration.
Then one by one, you were getting published. Those far away dreams were suddenly standing at my door, looking me in the eye, and asking what I planned to do.
Yes, I’m still facing the above question in “real” life, but I’m learning it’s all a journey. But it is not a journey we were meant to take alone.
Y’all. This is not Ydubs. This isn’t Story Embers. This is Kingdom Pen. We are unique, but in a way, we are all the same thing: communities of authors growing together. Personally, I have been proud to be a KaPeefer/KeePer/Eccentric Mentor. This is a good place. But this is not the only Kingdom we belong to.
Back when we had weekly topics (can’t wait for those to restart), I remember trying to express that I believed the best writing shaped something that was as holy and powerful as the words God used to make the universe. I believe that even more now.
So write because it matters. Write because there is a world to shake. Write because there is a great Author worth emulating.
And don’t forget we’re here for each other.

January 14, 2025 at 11:25 pm #194525♥️ This has been the most fun place to haunt on the internet. I don’t care how small or unknown this forum might be in the future, it’s still Kingdom Pen. It’s just as much a part of my childhood writing as those old notebook scribbles from my earlier grades, and I certainly don’t intend to forget that.

January 15, 2025 at 7:23 pm #194677Oh my goodness I love this so much 🥹
Sometimes I wonder if this forum is actually helping me grow as a writer, and then I look at all the connections and friendships I’ve made and I’m like—yes. <33
