@Daeus I KNEW YOU WERE GOING TO SAY THAT! GAH! *dissolves into helpless laughter*
August 21, 2017 at 9:06 pm #41434@kate-flournoy I’m impressed, seeing as I only typed it as an afterthought.

@daeus You fixed it. The one I was really having trouble with was the protagonist question, but putting in hero as a substitute makes a lot more sense. : )
August 21, 2017 at 10:13 pm #41452@daeus I’m still confused… sorry.

@daeus It looks good and you’ve been given some pretty good suggestions. π A few things: Since the questions are pretty general and aren’t asking about specific elements of fiction and are warrant a written response from readers, it’s going to take the survey takers a while to complete it, and I don’t think some people will want to take all that time to respond. Like me, for instance, just cause I’ve got a bunch of other writing/college stuff to get done and, even if the survey would only take fifteen minutes or so, I’d still balk at starting it. I don’t know if it can (or should) be fixed, since the goal is to get into reader’s minds.
In the survey, can you answer a few questions and skip the rest? In the genre section people might only read a few genres and not have opinions on all of them.
August 22, 2017 at 12:24 pm #41474Okay the meaning of question (“Some readers are very trusting, while others are on the critical side. If you are just trying out a new author, what do you need to see in their story to know that you can trust them?”) hit me at 2 am last night…. (thanks allergies and thunderstorms….)
So does that question mean if you are unsure of the good/moral/godly vs. bad/immoral/ungodly content of the book what would you look for to make you more comfortable reading the book.? If that’s what your question is I would re-word it. I asked my aunt that question and what her interpretation of the question was and she gave me a weird face ( π ) and was like, “I have no clue.”I hope this is helpful.

August 22, 2017 at 2:11 pm #41484@salome01w4g That’s basically what I meant. I was trying to word it a bit broader in case there were other reasons a reader had to be selective, but now that I think about it, it’s best to make questions narrow. I think I’ll go with the specific wording.

August 22, 2017 at 2:14 pm #41485@winter-rose Yeah, I don’t think that aspect could be fixed, but readers could skip over any question if it didn’t apply to them or if they are very short on time. I’ll add more notes in the survey to make that clear.

August 22, 2017 at 2:23 pm #41490So, about this, @aratrea. Is this something you think would be valuable to the KP community?

August 22, 2017 at 2:28 pm #41491@salome01w4g Is this good?
If you are careful about the content and tone of the books you read, what signs do you look for inside a story that indicate it is probably a good fit for you?

August 22, 2017 at 3:06 pm #41497@Daeus Wow that’s a comprehensive survey.
