I’m not even sure if this post is going to work, or if it’s going to use my old account from several years ago instead of my new account…. o-o
Anyway, hey everyone!!! Let’s see what we have in common…
1. Favorite band is Twenty One Pilots. EEE I know so much about them I know I’ll never be able to know everything they’re up to. But I know back to slushie guys. Tell me if you know them well please XD I also like
2. I’m Christian! Like most of us here. I’m really into Theology and whatnot, so hit me up with any questions!
3. My main form of writing is songwriting. I write alt-rock/rap/pop. It would make sense if you read it XD I’ll be submitting some of it as poetry here on KP, so hopefully that’ll get accepted! I’m putting together an album and my bestie and I are slowly creating the music for it. So yeah, yay *throws confetti*
Speed round of random stuff: I’m conservative, fully American and fully Canadian, born in TX, have lived in HK for a few months waaaay before this Corona stuff, love playing basketball and soccer, soon to be 15, real name is Bella (no matter what my username says, idk if it’ll say Ashly or what XD) and most kids I know under the age of 10 call me mom.

May 19, 2020 at 3:40 pm #82010Hi there!
So, you like Tøp? SAMEEEE which is your favorite song?? Mine is probably Trees. 😛☀ ☀ ☀ ENFP ☀ ☀ ☀
May 19, 2020 at 9:43 pm #82051@ashlyvye Hi, welcome back to Kingdom Pen! Are you on Story Embers? I think I remember your profile on SE.
1. Although I’ve heard of Twenty One Pilots, I’ve never heard their music well. Sorry to dash your hopes against a rock.
2. So am I!
3. Hey, I write poetry, so that’s pretty close. Hope to see some of your submissions soon on the blog!
I’m conservative and definitely American, as well, though my roots are in Europe. I’ve never played those two sports actually; I’m into baseball, you see. I, uh…why do they call you mom? (XD)
May 20, 2020 at 9:17 am #82077@dragon-snapper Hey! I actually remember you from forever ago, maybe from Story Embers though.
Yesss I love T∅P!!! Honestly, Trees is probably my favorite too, but for variety I’d have to go with Anathema, Forest, Slowtown, or Drown.
Half saying those ones to see if you know what I mean.*insert awesome signature because I'm a bit too lazy to come up with one*
May 20, 2020 at 9:25 am #82078@leon-fleming Hey! Yeah, I was on SE for a while back when I was… 12, I think. Then I got an email from Daeus where he was apologizing because 12 year olds couldn’t be on the site XD I’ve tried getting back on in the past few years, and since I’m 14 I *can* be on, but no one will activate my account XD
1. sobs Oh well XD What kind of music do you like?
3. Yay! Fellow poet!
fistbumps because yayyy another conservative Living where I do… I’ve not met but a handful of other conservatives in this city…
Ooo! Baseball! I like baseball too, but my best friend keeps trying to turn me off of it because once she was playing and a ball hit her face. So um. Ow. There was a bruise there for many moons. heh.
They call me mom because… um… that’s a good question. For one, they all have really weird home/family situations, and I give them the extra “mom attention” that they need. So I was giving this one girl, Autumn (7 or 8 years old at the time) said “mom attention” and she just asked out of the blue as she was sitting in my lap playing with her dolls “Can I call you mom?” and that single question started the trend XD I live in a complex where all the kids except me and my guy-friend Daunte (how do you even phrase that??) have terrible home situations. So I’m the mom they all need and now have.
I’m sure that was slightly more serious then you were assuming but oh well XD- This reply was modified 4 years, 7 months ago by Bella B..

May 20, 2020 at 9:30 am #82080Welcome!
1. I love TwentyOne Pilots! My sister actually went to school with Tyler Joseph, and I started a band with a guy who used to play with him.
2. Rak Chazak!
3. That’s so cool you’re a songwriter! So am I! I actually have a Synth-pop band called Andromeda Coast. Do you write any music as well?
Glad to have you back!

OrpheusAudioAcademy.comMay 20, 2020 at 9:55 am #820851. ……… O_O That definitely wasn’t a response to that I was expecting. So wait, you knew about Tyler’s old stuff like NPI and RaB when it came out? XD and which one of the guys who used to play with him?
2. XD
3. Ooo! Kewl! I’ll check that out! I sort of write the music for it, but last time I had a keyboard was when I was like 4. I’ve learned to play without actually having one, and I’m trying to convince my parents to get me one, so hopefully my friend can come teach me some stuff and I can start writing it with her.
Thanks!

May 20, 2020 at 3:01 pm #821111. I actually didn’t know about his old stuff. I just remember my sister showing a video of him performing “Trees” live at a small local place in Columbus Ohio and talking about how cool it was she went to school with him. That was before they went big. The school was Worthington Christian. She didn’t actually know him personal, just knew who he was. Haha!
And the guy I started a band with was friends with him at one point and I think they played together. His name is Levi Laubenthal. He has his own band now called NIGHT, but his prior band that went pretty big and was the #1 electronic band in Columbus for awhile I think was called “Fantastic!”
We worked on a bunch of songs together but never finished or released anything. Need to do that. Haha!
That’s cool you write some music too! I’ve been writing songs since 2011, and I still can’t play an instrument, and I don’t know music theory either.
Here’s a link to one of my songs off my latest album if you’re interested.
I’d love to hear some of your music if you get any recorded!

OrpheusAudioAcademy.comMay 20, 2020 at 3:38 pm #821131. Cool! That’s still super neat! And kewl I didn’t know that was the high school XD Trees was actually in his first (and third and fourth) album, so if he was playing in a smaller place then it was probably his first or third XD
That sounds really fun!
XD That’s cool you get the chance to work with other people with your music!!
Woah, seriously? That’s interesting! Do you ever use technology for that sort of stuff then, or do you leave it to others to come up with the music for your lyrics?
Nice! I’m listening to it right now, I like it!
Awesome!! Right now, I’m still putting the lyrics together for everything. One song is completely ready to be recorded but like. Nerves. XD
So, do you have any advice for a beginner?
*insert awesome signature because I'm a bit too lazy to come up with one*
May 20, 2020 at 4:21 pm #82114Pretty sure it was before Vessels came out, so I don’t know what album that would have been.
I write all of the music for my songs. I just use virtual instruments for the most part, and yeah, other software to arrange and mix. Here’s a short clip of what it looks like.
And nothing to be nervous about! Everyone starts somewhere! 🙂
Are you asking for like beginner recording advice? Or songwriting? What kind of song is it?

OrpheusAudioAcademy.comMay 20, 2020 at 4:51 pm #82121That would have been Regional at Best, then! Unless Josh wasn’t there, then No Phun Intended. XD
Ooo, that’s interesting! I’ll check that out in a minute!!
My friend thinks the genre would be alt rock, but the general vibe is like piano-pop/piano-rap. It mostly focuses around the lyrics. But what I mean is like, do you have any general advice for moving into that industry?
*insert awesome signature because I'm a bit too lazy to come up with one*
May 20, 2020 at 5:08 pm #82122Ah, cool! Yeah, I’m pretty sure he had a different bandmate(s) at the time.
Piano-pop/piano-rap…kinda like Twenty One Pilots then? Haha! That’s cool!
Ah, so more of a getting started with marketing advice?
I’m personally about going the Indie route and not signing to a label these days.
I actually have a guide that gives an overview of how to build a fanbase with your music.
You can get it here if you want.
But basically want to start out by figuring out what your micro-genre is, and what other things people in that genre like. Then you build a culture around that to attract those people to you in the form of social media content and things like that.
Then you get them on your email list by giving away a free song so that you can continue to build that relationship, and eventually sell to them.
That’s the free way. The fastest way I’ve found to grow my following is Facebook ads, since you can put your song directly in front of the people you know are the most likely to want it.

OrpheusAudioAcademy.comMay 20, 2020 at 5:16 pm #82124Probably Mark, Thomas, and Chris… I think those are their names… All of them would have gone to school with your sister as well XD
XD A bit, but not completely. A mix of Vessel and NF’s music, just a little more chill. TOP has been my main music influence for the past few years though, so it does lean toward them! XD
Alright, thank you! I’ll have to watch that soon as well then, but so far that’s already super helpful! What do you mean by a micro-genre?

May 20, 2020 at 7:21 pm #82153@ashlyvye Twenty One Pilots! Have you ever listened to any of the No Phun Intended songs?
Lately, it's been on my brain
Would you mind letting me know
If hours don't turn into daysMay 21, 2020 at 10:20 am #82227Well I’d love to hear anything you have!
And by micro-genre I mean you want to get really niched down as far as what genre your music falls into.
If you try to target fans of piano music for example, you’re a very small fish in a very big pond, and even if you are discovered, your music isn’t as likely to resonate.
Instead you want to dig deeper, and find a genre within a genre within a genre to locate the people who are most likely to be your die-hard fans.
This same concept actually applies to building an author career as well.
To give a real life example, the umbrella genre for our music is “Electronic”, but that’s way too big.
Inside of that genre we fall into the “Synthpop” genre, and then further still into “Synthwave”, and then finally ending up at what I call “Sci-fi & Fantasy-Inspired Popwave”.
“Popwave” is an actual micro-genre, and then the “sci-fi and fantasy-inspired” part is our unique twist. It’s what sets us apart.
Hopefully that makes sense!
