Yeah! There is more than one mechanical structure for “fire breath” that I’ve heard. Most use methane for the main material to burn instead of waste. There’s often still an issue of ignition though, one that fixed that though is through quartz crystal that when the right type of pressure is applied, it creates sparks. Eating rocks is very common in the animal kingdom, so it just works so well! It’s really fun to think about

That is so true. Your stories, plots, and creatures just blow my mind. I can’t begin to understand them and they are really awesome! Some of the concepts you’ve mentioned kind of remind me of Madeleine L’Engle. Really deep, epic, and very much brain twisting. I have one word for you: WOW!

I do the same thing! I came up with an explanation for how my ice dragons breathe ice: Humans and other creatures often exhale water vapor. In a CloneWing’s throat is a gland which secretes a substance that reacts with the water vapor in his breath. It supercools it, and when the dragon forcefully exhales, it comes out as ice!

@artsy-dragon yes!! One of my favorite things about designing mythical creatures is getting all sciencey with them XD
Like, designing them in a way that makes sense for their environment. I actually had a field-guide of mythical creatures I started drawing when I was 11, I could show you some time! It would be fun to redo it now that my art is less reminiscent of chicken scratches. ;DMonsters creep

Yeah! I’ve wondered if I could insert some of these into my world, which I did with the cover art I showed earlier. But it would be cool have them as a dedicated set up within the magic system or something. They likely wouldn’t be fundamental in my and my sister’s magic, but they could definitely immerge from what we call magic weaving. But what they would do would be the question…
