October 4, 2023 at 11:07 am #158005Love the pic! How do you get that detailing in the hair!!!? I’ve been trying to do that for like years!

Also, art questions tend to illicit a information dump from me… lol you asked for it.
I think the most important part of the detailing is knowing where to put the highlights and shadows. Most hair, especially if it’s messy like his, has a shadow under each section of hair. The section of hair also has shadows and highlights depending on how it bends. I would do a black and white hair study just using graphite pencils; I used to draw birds in graphite and it helped me understand lighting better. Also be willing to be tedious XD it takes a long time and a lot of layers of pencil. It helps if you have a high quality black. If you don’t, the tip won’t be sharp enough to get small shadows. You can fix that by just drawing bigger, but if you can just get one fabercastell black, it will help a lot. I personally don’t like prismacolors black, it’s too soft.

October 4, 2023 at 2:05 pm #158027Thank you so much! Iām glad you like it!
I did a pencil sketch, went over it in pen, erased the pencil, and then colored it with prismacolor colored pencils.
Oh also I use a black fabercastel polychromos, itās worth it for the money. My main brown is a caren dāache, but the only reason I have a few of those it because I found some on clearance. I would never pay full price for one of thoseš«
Of course!!
Oh cool!!
Oh gosh, yes, art supplies is so expensive. š I only get it if I ask for it as a gift or find it cheap/used.
I rolled the log over and underneath was a tiny little stick and I was like, "That log had a child

weird side note–my family went to a cosplay contest today, and my brother won first place in the children’s division! He was dressed as Bucky, the same as in your art, and he was so good at it!

Lol what funny timing! That sounds like sooo much fun, Cosplaying as Bucky is a fantasy of mine. There’s a girl on youtube who has a full tutorial for a female version of the outfit and I want to do it so bad šš
Thank you!
